I have had 3 neurosurgeons tell me that he used the wrong approach in attempting to correct my tethered cord. Because of his incompetence I may not be a good candidate for a redo due to scar tissue. His treatment of me in other aspects was deplorable and he lied to me twice. Please take care in choosing him as

I was referred to Dr. Spicer due to severe herniated discs, spinal stenosis, sciatica, and arthritic build up just to name a few issues. Either way, even though my issue could be remedied by surgery, Dr. Spicer explained the complications and issues I would have in the future due to my circumstances. Even though he strongly advised against surgery, I truly appreciated his honesty, constructive criticism, and all in all his bed side manner. I truly felt as if I was speaking to a friend, even though we had just met. He gave me referrals and off I went…fingers crossed. Had severe lower back pain and down the legs. Saw Dr. Spicer who explained how I needed surgery to correct and relieve my pain. Had the surgery and it was a complete success!!! I would give him 10 stars if I could!!! Since this was a few years ago I was just looking back thru the comments and saw mine only had 3 stars! This was meant to be 5!!!

Having spinal surgery is a scary proposition but choosing the right surgeon makes all the difference. I am so glad I chose Dr. Spicer. His calm manner and detailed descriptions of the issues and what the surgery would entail assured me this was the right thing to do. I had two cervical spinal procedures and I am pleased with the outcome. Dr. Spicer pulled no punches in explaining why I needed the surgery and he thoroughly answered all my questions and concerns. I sincerely thank Dr. Spicer for his care and compassion and of course also for his skills and experience. My surgeries had minimal to no pain and recovery is better than expected. If you need neurosurgery Dr. Spicer is your man. I heartily recommend him!

Run as fast as you can. This doctor did unnecessary surgery, just so he could make money, on my mother which ended up killing her. When I called to find out what happened he refused to speak to me. Can't schedule an appointment to see doctor because no one ever answers the phone. Calls go to appointment desk leave a message no one ever calls back. Have been trying to schedule an appointment for over a week. 3 months later appointment day finally came and doctor wouldn't see me because his staff, specifically Erica, rescheduled appointment to 10:30 and did not notify me. Leaving a message saying "I have a question about your appointment" is not the same as 'you need to be here at a different time'. They called again after I had to leave the office without seeing the doctor I waited 3 months to see offering to reschedule. NO THANK YOU. If your staff is no more competent than that I don't trust you do surgery on me! Can't schedule an appointment to see doctor because no one ever answers the phone. This review is directed towards the efficiency of the office and paperwork side. I am not a patient and I don't normally do reviews but my experience just as a guest of a patient was so disappointing that I felt compelled to write something. The office staff is friendly but it is very obvious that they are not given efficent resources and/or training to provide a quality experience for patients. The few times I've come there is always some kind of disconnect in communication amongst the staff and/or any other office they may be dealing with. In addition, they have been given a new "system" which has contributed to the already slow process. My friend WAITED OVER TWO HOURS for a 10 minute appointment which means I as well waited. There was no warning that there would be a delay before coming either. We both had to make other arrangements for prior obligations that took place while waiting (ie. Childcare!). Again, there are protocols and procedures that could be followed to give the patient a better and more efficient experience. However, the staff is clearly not receiving them. The culture here is not a supportive one and it shows. Very disappointing for a medical facility. This review is directed towards the efficiency of the office and paperwork side. Dr. Spicer is amazing. He knows what he is doing without a doubt. He is so understanding of your pain and needs as he himself has had a bad spine. He made me feel at ease and is guiding me to Live day by day with less pain. He’s just following orders from insurance as they will not allow me to have surgery until I go through the whole pain management and physical needed. He’s not in for the money. I love his office. I'm only 52 and I needed L4, L5, S1 fusion. I could only walk with a cane, and would be crying in pain after 10 steps. I tried everything: spinal injections, physical therapy, and pain medications. This is Cindi Hernandez and Dr. Spicer is way Awesome. He is every good thing and more that you'll see written. I was referred to him by my first ortho surgeon who took me off surgery schedule when I found out I had breast cancer. After I met with the breast surgeon it was determined I should have the neck surgery 1st due to damage happening to my spinal cord. Since my breast cancer treatments would be intense it would be too long to wait. when I called my ortho I learned that he had received a promotion and wouldn't be able to complete my treatment. He referred me to Dr. Spicer but when I called I was told he is wasn't seeing new patients until march and it was January. However they are all so wonderful there, as I talked to Kristen (an angel ) I explained my situation . I had already done everything needed for surgery, about my previous doctor, the referral and then the urgent situation of breast cancer. she was so caring she told me she would talk to the doctor and get back to me. a day later I was in emergency at loma Linda medical Murrieta to have my appendix removed. I had to wear a neck brace per ton instructions from my 1st neck doctor. so I did. as I was being wheeled in to the operating room I heard the staff joke that Dr. Spicer was going to be upset because we were in his or first. I was already on drugs so I couldn't conversate and that's all I remember until the next day speaking to my other half on the phone when in came a tall dark handsome young man in scrubs and as I explained for some reason I said are you Dr. Spicer? Almost in tears he said yes and then went on to explain how he saw a female in recovery who had a neck brace on. he continued but im the only one doing neck surgery and this isn't the patient. so he asked what my name was, he said wait I just discussed a Cindi Hernandez with the girls in my office it can't be the same one? but God is amazing and it was me and the two of us laughed. my heart was beating fast because through the grogginess I realized he was the result of my friends and loved ones praying for me. he was absolutely caring and genuine. he said when I was released to call his office and let the girls know he wanted to see me that week. well I met with him OMG Friday we reviewed the 1st doctors plan if treatment and then her proposed his plan. that was a Friday and the following Tuesday I was having my surgery. and if you didn't catch the God reference well here is number 2. he asked what was happening with my cancer and I was sad to admitted that my cancer team had not contacted me for for anything including returning my calls. he then proceeded to tell me he headed the cancer team and would present my case for evaluation that happened on the Monday right before my surgery on Tuesday. I have been through so much since my initial diagnosis on Dec 7th 2016 I was very concerned since my cancer is the her2 positive meaning its an aggressive type. I made it through a 5 + hour surgery which involved surgery to the front and the back of my neck. Surgery was on 2-7-2017 its now 4-18-2017 and I am so much better. I still need lower back surgery but that will have to wait unto after breast treatments. at least now I won't be threatened with the notion that any wrong jarring fall or whiplash could have caused paralyzation from neck down. Thank you Dr. Spicer for everything. im soooo happy and blessed that you are a top rate doctor. Cindi This is Cindi Hernandez and Dr. Spicer is way Awesome. He is every good thing and more that you'll see written. I was referred to him by my first ortho surgeon who took me off surgery schedule when I found out I had breast cancer. After … More

Dr. Spicer was wonderful, very good about explaining every detail regarding my condition BUT his office staff is rude, incompetent and unresponsive. I saw the Dr. 4 weeks ago and he ordered PT x 6 weeks. I waited a week and called my PCP who had not rec'd notes yet. Well, 5 phone calls to Dr. Spicer's office with messages to call me and send notes to my PCP. Still have not rec'd one phone call from them, and after 4 weeks, no notes to my PCP. This has caused me to have to cancel PT & Surg.

I had a successful 4part lumbar S1 fusion surgery. Have had back pain for 15 years. 5 years ago I knew I needed surgery. The search for a surgeon began. Not only did I find a lot of quacks I found a lot of just don't care surgeons. Let's get it done the old treat and street routine. When I met Dr. Spicer he impressed me with his compassion and knowledge. He knew what I needed and we got down to business. Why did I chose him? He does damned good work. Thank you doctor Mark.

Horrible. They don't care about their patients. I have stenosis, C-6 & 7. Dr. Spicer recommended disc replacement surgery as soon as possible. He said that if I do not have the surgery, I could end up crippled. Well, that was 7/8/16. It is now 8/23, and they have cancelled my surgery 3 times. The first time they cancelled my surgery, it was the same day of my surgery! No calls from their office to reschedule until 3 days later. I am in extreme pain, left many messages, no calls back.

I went to see Dr. Spicer for a 2nd opinion for possible back surgery. He LISTENED which was of great comfort considering the amount of discomfort I am in. He went over my MRI's with me explaining why this would be a difficult surgery and not very successful in relieving pain-and possibly getting worse. Although I was hoping for a yes, let's do this surgery and everything will be great, I appreciated his truthfulness.

I would Highly recommend Dr. Spicer as a result of my past experience. I have had a artificial disc replaced in my neck, C5 and C6, and have no problems what so ever. It's like nothing ever happened to my neck. I feel like I have a new lease on life. Kudu's to you Dr. Spicer.

Dr. Spicer performed successful artificial cervical disc replacement surgery and a bilateral decompression surgery on my lower spine. Not only is he a highly skilled surgeon but he projects a genuinely friendly personality that immediately puts one at ease. His easy to understand explinations makes the entire surgical process nearly worry-free. His post-op follow up is handled equally as well. Through his expertise and kindness he has added additional happy years to my life.

I just left Mark's office for my post op appointment and I am a happy man. I thought my condition was untreatable. I had difficulty walking, I had no feeling in my legs and was in a tremendous amount of pain. From the moment I walked into his office and met with him I knew I had stumbled upon an VERY SPECIAL doctor. He listened to my list of woes, looked at all my tests and told me that I was very fixable. And he was right! Thank you again Mark, for giving me my quality of life back.
