Dr. Maria made surgery on my stomach using robotic technology. She removed a tumor that was believed to be at a pre-cancer stage. She saved my life by removing it. She carefully chose words and descriptions, when I and my husband asked her multiple questions on the procedure and expectations around it. We are very happy that she and her great team made an excellent job! She is also a very funny person to talk to, so I am really happy that she appeared in my life and saved me from having a growing tumor in my stomach with an ulcer on its surface which bled and caused anemia. So if you can imagine, to know such a thing when you are 33 is not the best and fun moment in life, and overall projection for a better future was formed also because of the careful and attentive attitude and work of Dr. Maria. I was 100% sure of her and her teamwork and approach. To say it was professional is like to say nothing. I hope this review helps other patients to know better that they are in good hands.

My mom was a patient at Hoag for over 40 days. Due to her multisystem complex issues Dr Stapfer followed her everyday in order to be prepared for a potential pancreatic surgery. She has excellent bedside manner with patients as well as families. She was very thorough with the nurses and helping them understanding complex septis patients. We feel my mom is on her way to a 100% recovery in large part due to her.

Dr. Marie Stapfer should be your choice for The Whipple Surgery. She is so well versed in this and other digestive disease procedures that I wouldn’t see anyone else. She is proactive in getting ahead of complications and her staff is also very on top of issues. Dr. Stapfer works at 3 hospitals, but I chose Hoag and I was glad I did. The nursing staff is on the younger side and very caring. I was right at home after my “big” surgery. With Covid and the lack of family visits, I never felt alone. Everyone was supportive and attentive to my needs including the Hospitalist, Dr. Sei.

I am forever grateful to Dr. Maria Stapfer. In Aug 2018, she performed one of the most difficult surgeries on me at Hoag. It lasted 9 hours. Due to her expert skill, I now have the opportunity to lead a long, enjoyable life rather than succumbing to cancer. She is thorough, professional, caring. She answered all my questions before surgery and during my recovery. You cannot find a better surgeon. Her office team and nursing staff at the Hoag Cancer Center - USC Digestive Diseases are top notch.

Maria Stapfer performed my Whipple surgery and I have done amazingly well. I have become aware of the many problems post Whipple patients have and I haven’t. I am thankful I was placed in her hands!
