Best hematology in San Antonio ..????‍⚕️

The world needs more doctors like Dr. Patel. He is patient, compassionate and knowledgeable. He provides our daughter with the very best care. He is thorough and the absolute OPPOSITE of money-hungry- as another review stated. We couldn’t have found a better physician to take care of our most precious girl.

Kindest man and very good with my son

We went to see Dr Patel on a referral from another doctor. At first he seemed thorough, friendly and compassionate, as the other reviewers mentioned. However, once we got into my daughter’s care regiment, he referred her for treatments that were unnecessary, claiming they were the “only” and “very best” course of action. When the office explained the cost of the procedure they did no research and claimed it would be at minimal cost. Once we got the bill it was for thousands of dollars. Not a small discrepancy, a HUGE one. This caused us to look for another provider, as it felt very dishonest. Later we found out they double billed, billed my insurance for questionable services (that were not provided) and the procedure that my daughter NEEDED was invasive, costly and could have been avoided with other less invasive, less costly procedures. This is a scam artist disguised as a jovial, caring professional. If you decide to be treated here, make sure you get second and third opinions. Everyone was very nice and helpful. I enjoyed my experience from beginning to end.

Was diagnosed with Unexplained Anemia back in 2008/2009. Being a child at the time, Dr. Patel cured me of my Anemia and quite frankly saved my life. Most definitely recommend his practice - professional and kid-friendly.

We have know Dr Patel since my daughter Bella was born , he has taken care of her since birth , he is so loving with her and his patients , his staff is so amazing , excellent customer service . We are so blessed to have you in our life Dr Patel . We will see you in November .thank you !!

My daughter was a patient for almost 5 years (she had ITP). Dr. Patel is so great with kids and with helping everyone understand the disease. His staff is great, too. We are forever grateful to him!

Dr. Patel is the most intelligent, personable, and compassionate doctors I have gone to. Our insurance quite frequently does bot get referrals to his office by the time of our appointment. We were on the phone with the insurance struggling and coming close to having to just go home and reschedule. Dr. Patel told the nurse to waive the fee and saw my brother and I for blood work free of charge. An especially memorable moment, my biannual blood work appointment once landed on my birthday. Dr Patel came back into the room and surprised me with a 20 dollar bill. Truly a saint! I love this man.

He’s the best????

Dr. Patel diagnose our daughter one year ago. We had seen 4 other physicians for over 2 years. None could figure out what she had. With Dr. Patels vast knowledge and experience, he knew right away! His bedside manner is like none we have ever experienced. He is patient, kind, generous, and considerate. He is a true gentleman in every sense of the word! A fabulous doctor with excellent bedside manners. He truly cares about his patients.

We couldn't possibly love Dr. Patel any more. He's a life saver and a wonderful practitioner.

So far so good. He seems great and my daughter loves him. He’s very compassionate and made my daughter laugh and feel very comfortable. So far he’s my daughter’s favorite doctor. He’s very good at what he does and is very well educated. Thank you Dr. Patel! (Alejandra says thank you too)

My daughter was getting sick and staying sick. My pedi referred me to Dr. Patel. I have to admit, I was scared walking in there. He looked over her blood work, sat down and explained to me what was wrong, played with my daughter and put me at ease. He sent us off with orders for more test's, ran more blood work in his office, and a follow up appointment. The next appointment he went over our treatment options, gave me best case scenario's, then worst case scenario's....and options to fix those and he talked to me. This was three years ago. I haven't looked back since. I know my daughter is in wonderful hands. I have never once doubted him, and my daughter loves him. She also sees her pedi still on a regular basis so the pedi keeps up with what Dr. Patel is doing and she absolutely loves seeing the progress my daughter is making. I can't thank him enough. My son has been sick for eight years. We have been shuffled from specialist to specialist and no one could give us a definitive diagnosis. We were referred to Dr. Patel and I felt at ease when I met him. He went over Christian's records thoroughly and told me he believes my son has a rare disorder called ensinophilic gastroenteritis. For the first time in years I have hope that my son can have a normal life again and once again just be a kid. Words can not express my gratitude to him and his wonderful staff. God bless all of you! This was a follow-up visit after surgery I’ve been seeing Dr. Patel for two years he’s a conscientious and knowledgeable Dr and goes above and beyond I made calls into his office With questions he returned My calls promptly I highly recommend this doctor he will be there for you !

When my daughter was sick in 2015, I was at my wits end. Her pedi, and several other doctors couldn't explain why she kept getting recurring infections. Finally, her pedi (whom I love) ran her blood work. While she could have sent me to an immunologist, he first recommendation was Dr. Patel. She wanted him to look over my daughters blood work. And that was all it took. My daughter has been with him for over 3 years now, and doing GREAT!!

It was so hard to even find a pediatric hematologist for our daughter. We loved Dr. Patel. He explained everything to her and never hesitated to answer a question.

Dr Patel is an amazing Dr. you are immediately part of his family and he makes the kids smile even though they hurt all the time, Love Love Love Dr Patel ??

Can I give 0 stars? Horrible staff, horrible service, horrible patient care. I cannot say enough about the horrible treatment my son and I received.

Mahendra Patel poisoned my son for over a year. Misdiagnosed him and ignored the awful side effects of the treatment he prescribed to his blood disorder. He refused to listen to my pleas for months to consult the a BMT team of doctors and has put my son in a fight for his life in the PICU.

Cares about every patient no matter who they are or what they have. A walking encyclopedia, and a wonderful human being.

If you could give negative stars I would. This man brain washes his patients families and an ego larger than Texas. It says he’s accepting new patients. Please, please do your research. This ended in loss for our family and I pray he never treats another child again.

My daughter was diagnosed with cancer when she was 8. Dr. Patel and his staff were very knowledgeable and caring. They became like family to us! Dr. Patel is brilliant, and humble. I am so thankful to the Lord Jesus for helping my daughter to be cancer-free, and for allowing us to find dear Dr. Patel! He worked hard to protect her body from the chemo. I am also very thankful to say that my daughter is married, and just had her first child! God is good!

Not Board Certified in Hematology and Oncology. Independent doctor. Board Certification is in Pediatrics not in his specialty. Strongly encourage patient parents to find another doctor. Very good groups in the SA area with multiple colleagues and board certifications. Clinic is outdated and questionably run.

Dr. Patel is by far one of the most educated physicians I have ever had the experience of meeting. He has treated my special needs daughter for years and has been able to solve several mystery issues over the years that have resulted in a better quality of life for her. He always takes the time to explain what is happening and treats my child with such compassion. I cant say enough good things about Dr. Patel and what he has and is continuing to do for my daughter.

I highly recommend Dr. Patel without reservation! Dr. Patel is one of the best diagnosticians in pediatric diseases and handles each patient with compassion and kindness. Dr. Patel treats complex and many times life threatening illnesses, yet, due to his unique rapport with his patients and their families, the children end up loving him, despite their long and difficult journey. This speaks volumes of the care provided by Dr. Patel and his staff.

My children have been seeing Dr. Patel for 8 years. He has saved all three of their lives. When no other dr in San Antonio would listen to me dr. Patel did and was able to dx them and get them the treatment they need. He has gone above and beyond to ensure their health and comfort. He has answered my calls at 3am and even while he is on vacation. I don't know a more compassionate man or a more knowledgeable dr. He is thorough and coordinates with my kids MANY drs to ensure they get the best care

I am a pediatrician in San Antonio. I have referred my patients to him that have hematological problems or cancer. I have worked with him for decades. Dr. Patel and his staff have always been kind, compassionate, caring to his patients, parents and anyone else involved in the care of his patients. He is professional, very bright and capable. Dr. Patel is thorough and thoughtful when assessing his patients symptoms and concerns. I know him well as a physician and as a man of integrity.

Poisoned my son for over a year. Misdiagnosed my sons blood disorder. Refused my plea to ask for help and ignored the awful side effects my baby had to endure. My 17th month old son is now in a fight for his life in the PICU bc of Mahendra Patel. Never trust a doctor that doesn't want a second opinion and has to recite his resume over and over to convince you he is the best. I wish I would have never taken my son through those 5th floor doors. Clinically is questionably run.

He saved my daughter life when 14 other doctors couldn't figure out what was wrong with her

There is so much you can say about a brilliant physician like Dr Patel. His kindness, genius, love of children, compassion and on and on. I believe he is "the best "agent" God had... sent to serve and care for those who are most precious in God's eyes, the children.......

Dr. Patel has been my daughters Doctor since she was 4 years old after having a stroke. None of her other doctors could tell me why my 3 year old daughter had a stroke and if she was at risk of having another one. He fought the insurance company to approve genetic testing and find out the actual cause of her stroke! My daughter is now almost 19 years old and although this next annual check up will be her last with him since he is a Pediatric Docotor ... I will be eternally grateful! This is my son's hematologist. We go about twice a year to get blood drawn. None of his other six specialists could pin point what was causing my son's excessive and constant throat clearing. Only seeing him as a blood doctor. We didn't expect him to diagnose my son with s tic disorder. I'm glad he did and no other doctor had an answer! Thank you Dr. Patel..the answer to our prayers!

He is not only an excellent physician,but is kind and truly cares about his patients. He was able to give us answers when no other physician could. I can not say enough good things about him, he is truly awesome!

I was disrespected by this doctor during my last visit. I waited for two hours and when I asked when he will see us, he told me dismissively that he was busy. He wasn't even apologized for keeping us in a dark, cold room for hours. Then I had to leave his clinic without receiving the service after almost 2-hours of wait. And he was totally indifferent to my decision. Worst, worst experience ever. I was disrespected by this doctor during my last visit. Dr. Patel is absolutely amazing! He is so caring and loving and the staff is wonderful as well! He is so wonderful with the children taking the time to get to know them and their families so all feel cared for! He truly cares for his patients! Highly recommended!

I absolutely LOVE Dr. Patel. My daughter has JRA and Lupus. He and his staff have made this experience so welcoming. Dr. Patel is truly a gift to pediatric medicine, without his foresight and vision my son would not be alive, my son is one of the smallest babies ever born at Children's Methodist, Dr. Patel closely monitored and diagnosed my son correctly. While other doctors were chaotic and unsure Dr. Patel displayed a calm and patience.

Dr. Patel deserves far more than 5 stars. When my daughter became very ill, he made a point to see her before the Christmas holiday because he did not want us to be worried having to wait for an appointment. He is knowledgeable, trustworthy, caring, and patient. He was wonderful to my daughter and she loves him! That's not very common for a 20 month old. He has a special way of putting her at ease. He answered our questions thoroughly. He is God's special miracle for us and our baby girl.

Dr. Patel office staff is a mess. Major quality of care issues. I have a loved one who gets the run around from the staff constantly. These are great Doctors but terrible staff. This Office needs to hire new staff. A total revamp.

Dr. Patel is not only incredibly knowledgeable, intelligent and experienced, but he is also extremely caring. He is wonderful with children and parents. He has put my mind at ease so many times and was always very compassionate no matter how many times I needed him to explain things for the hundredth time. And my son absolutely loved him. When my son was was born with so many problems, I was terrified. But Dr. Patel really made me feel at ease. I don't know what we would have done without him. Hes a very great DR he saved my babys life.

My daughter is 10 and she loved Dr. Patel! She said he was funny and very nice! I'm so glad there really are great doctors out there that really care. I'm sorry to say though that the staff there that answers the phone is horrible. Very rude and apparently they said only one person name Sylvia can only make the appointments and that she would call me back. And when she does its always at the end of the day and she never forgets to be very rude. They said they never got my daughters referral from her doctor then at another appointment I made I get there and they say the appointment was cancelled which was a lie because I never cancelled it. This lady loves drama and loves to play games. What happen to excellent customer service? Dr.Patel is wonderful, too bad he needs to hire a new staff. I recommend starting off fresh and hiring people that love what they do. This would be five stars but the staff does not deserve it!! My daughter is 10 and she loved Dr. Patel!
