Dr. Mahendra Gunapooti

Dr. Gunapooti is great along with his PA's I would still give his staff a 5 star, except there's ALWAYS one that CLEARLY doesn't have any people skills and extremely rude and just ignorant and uncouth on the phone! I don't believe he gets any of his messages. One day their mothers and grandmothers are going to be in this same position and there's not going to be any care providers around to help as well they may even have someone worse than her and treat them the same way! Ignore their calls for help. Possibly even HER! The pain management in this country is going to get worse before it gets better because good help is hard to find already! I GUARANTEE if my daughter brings me to an appointment, I will more than likely lose a good Dr! But I will first see what is done with this one before I leave or even get rejected for further treatments.

For a doctor that specializes in pain management this doctor doesn’t have a broad variety of meds to help everyone. Unfortunately my previous pain doctor retired. I had been on the same medication therapy for post cancer pain, psoriatic arthritis and a few other diseases for about 15 years. Dr Gunapooti just ignored me and the past medical records. Dr Gunapooti is a great doctor. 3rd visit for me. He just doesn't hand out pain pills unless you need them. SO IF THAT WHAT YOU WANT MOVE DOWN THE ROAD. had injection today was better than thought. Mine and his goal is to get off pain pills. All his staff are very nice to everyone.

2 stars instead of 1 because I loved the office staff and assistants. Dr. Gunapooti acted cold towards me at every appointment except when getting injections. Came here after leaving previous pain management of 10 years. At my first appointment, he said he would not prescribe medication if I didn’t get injections. I have a genetic connective tissue disorder that he claimed to be familiar with. The appointment before my injections, I specified that I was receiving trigger point injections. He said I was. I didn’t know I was receiving epidural nerve block injections until I was lying on the table. So much for informed consent. I was told that I would have a little pain following the procedure and instructed how to manage it. I actually had a full body fibromyalgia-like flare for about 5 days. I then learned that I should never have injections due to my genetic issue. In addition to performing nerve blocks without my informed consent, his FAMILY PRACTICE NP (definitely not a doctor), Ms. Patel, was cold, uncaring, and left me unable to participate in Christmas with my family as I’ve been able to every prior year. I had a telehealth appointment Ms. Patel. I was vomiting due to my untreated pain. Unbothered by my agony, She responded by refusing to adequately treat me, even tho I was not asking for any additional MMEs, just a change in the combo they had me on. Then, she told me that I was due for my drug test I had to do every 6 weeks as if I knew I needed a drug test every 6 weeks. She only allowed half of my prescription and said I could have the rest after my drug test. So, not only was informed consent off the table, so was being treated in a dignified manner. BTW, the overuse of these injections will leave patients without any bone/joint/tissue that is frequently injected. You will be in more pain than when you started. Do your homework. They ARE NOT FDA APPROVED. Pfizer, the manufacturer of the medication in the injections, asked the FDA to ban its use due to the SEVERE ADVERSE REACTIONS. FDA did not ban it like many other countries did. These injections are lucrative for doctors and can be very harmful to patients. I have been a patient of Dr Mahendra Gunapooti since 2007 & Dr Gunapooti and his staff are the best. Dr Gunapooti is very knowledgeable when it comes to the best approach in dealing with chronic pain. He looks at each patient & comes up with the best plan of care for each individual, and not a 1 approach fits everyone. Most of all he's very personable. He takes the time to get to know his patients and he listen to them. I would recommend Dr Gunapooti to anyone in need of a Pain Management Doctor. Been to many pain clinics and had many injections over the years BUT Dr Gunapooti is one of the few if not the best that i have been to that is gentle takes his time and gives the injections with little to no pain at all. he does a great job at actually getting the injections in the correct spot to relieve as much pain as possible. He is very accurate and confident in his procedures. as much pain as im in normally walking in the office its always a pleasant peaceful environment with great personable staff throughout the clinic. I highly recommend Dr Gunapooti and trust his decisions in giving me the best care he can. I live over an hour away. Am raising a 14 yr. old grandson and with this pandemic, have not been able to go into the office for 6 weeks. Have offered to go to local Labcorp to do a urine test (which, I've NEVER DONE anything that wasn't prescribed) and do a Doxi or zoom video as we have an impending winter storm getting ready to deposit 1/4 " of sleet/ice plus 6 to 9 " of snow in my area, starting on the evening BEFORE MY APPOINTMENT MIND YOU, no. They would rather me drive 1 hour and 15 minutes, put my life at risk, to get to their office so they can do their urine test, which cost me quite a bit MORE than Labcorp to test my urine. I thought doctors were out to help people? Dr. Gunapooti, its time you go back to the basics. You went into practice to help people, HOPEFULLY NOT to buy your kids the newest IPhone!!!

Only 3 stars because it is very difficult to reach an actual person on the phone. If you leave a message, it could be 2 or 3 days before you get a call back, if you get one at all. The staff must be working on this, the response time is getting better. I have also been confused for a different patient. I was admonished by staff for being late (even though I was a 1/2 hour early). We got it straightened out, but then I was given the wrong sample cup. The Dr's are very busy, but try to take their time to listen and understand your pain. Only 3 stars because it is very difficult to reach an actual person on the phone. Dr Gunapooti is amazing. he is kind, caring and sees to your well being and not just a pusher. He is gentle when giving injections and not only provides physical relief but mental as well.

The office staff is professional and friendly. The doctor always addresses my questions or concerns.

I feel very pleased and welcomed in this doctors office the staff they are so sweet and it’s so easy to ask the doctor a question without them getting frustrated also a very clean office to and they get u in and out not a long waiting time I just love Amanda ❤️❤️❤️

Dr Gunapooti is a very caring and kind Dr. He is very helpful and is willing to spend as much time with his patients as needed. I think anyone who sees him would agree that Dr Gunapooti is fantastic!

Fast service especially since Dr Patel (Mrs) is there to do the follow up appointments. Dr. Gunapooti is caring and great with my injections. EDIT: Yesterday I came for my back injection and the waiting room was packed. I asked if the doctor was behind and was told "yes", I rescheduled. I don't like the fact that patients are scheduled so close together. The doctor needs to give at least 1 1/2 hours for a patient when scheduling injections and not go back and forth doing follow ups too. EDIT: 11/2021 There are some new staff members in the office that are very rude and dismissing and they do NOT relay your messages to Dr. Gunapooti. Also, I am very happy with Casey, the new P.A. now that MOST of my refill appointments I haven't seen/spoken with Dr. Patel in quite a while. Last time I was in office for a refill explaining my excruciating, debilitating pain to Casey she could SEE the amount of pain I am in on a daily basis and increased my dosage for my pain meds. Also she pointed out a better position to receive my neck Injections and it worked really well. Next appointment is for back Injections and hopefully these will go well also. The only thing is I wish the relief from these Injections would last 4 weeks AT LEAST since they are scheduled in intervals and 6 weeks apart. My grandmother that is 98 years old was told on Wednesday to leave a message for the doctor and they would call back. I’ve been going to this office for about 4 years now. Dr. Gunapooti is 99% great at his job, but his staff’s and/or other Doctors response to telephone messages is horrific, and getting correct information is difficult. Appointments have messed up because I called to ask about a text message appointment and was given incorrect information. One incident concerning an injection put me at 2 ERs in 5 days, and nearly suicidal ???? yet still I was unable to speak with Dr Gunapooti. I’ve been going to this office for about 4 years now. Dr. Gunapooti's staff are the best -- fast and friendly. Dr. Gunapooti has helped me manage severe pain from multiple health problems, which has not been an easy job. Fortunately, he is compentent and compassionate, and best of all, a good listener. I would not hesitate to recommend him to other patients.

Dr. Gunapooti has been treating me for chronic pain that intensified after an undiagnosed tumor in my lumbar spine for many years. Once I could afford expensive imaging when other testing didn't explain the pain, he was thorough and helped me find the answer. After lumbar and cervical spine surgeries he has been with me through it all working with primary care treating the pain and listening to my genuine concerns through the years. It is my opinion that this physician offers care that is proven to work for each individual case. His staff is caring and friendly. Dr. G. and his staff are very caring and sweet health care workers!....We need more smiling faces when we go to see our Dr.'s and his staff is a rare exception in today's scary world....they always make me smile!...There is also a lady Dr. that works with Dr. G that is wonderful as well!.....I highly recommend his office!...I have degenerate bone disease...lung cancer...copd...you name it...and they are so sweet!

Do not go to this doctor he will cut you off of your pain medicines without even telling you or explaining nothing to you at all, he will just send you a letter in the mail and discharging you without even telling you is definitely a poor excuse for a doctor

HORRIBLE STAFF OVER BILLED ME SEVERAL TIMES AND THE INSURANCE COMPANY. tHE STAFF IS BEYOND RUDE i WAS CURSED AT FOR ARGUING OVER A BILL THAT WASNT FOR ME. tHE WAIT TIME IS TERRIBLE OVER AN HOUR AND A HALF IS A GOOD DAY THEN 30 MINUTES IN THE ROOM BEFORE HE COMES IN. Fantastic Interventional Pain Management & Staffing

This poor excuse for a doctor gave me a script which I took to the pharmacy only to find out my new insurance would not cover it. I never had a problem getting this covered so I didn't check ahead of time. So, I called his office twice asking for a less expensive medication. Guess what! He refused to give me a script for a medication I could afford. We even drove over to Illinois to his office thinking it might make a difference. Guess what! It didn't. Can you believe that?

This is just because his staff is ridiculously slow. I mean I take my grandmother here and her appointment can be at 9:15am just for a follow-up, and she doesn't get seen until 9:50am. We are always here for 1 or 2 hours, which is really unprofessional, unorganized, and unreal. They are quick to take the money, but don't want to see the patient. I called to make an appointment and the girl that answered the phone was ghetto and rude, she got an attitude because I was asking a question about being able to self refer to specialist myself. After I called my insurance company to have them call, we find out she didn't have the intelligence to say it was an internal policy for all. She even told me before I hung up on her the first call, I would not be seeing dr. G., I told her I guess I won't because the staff in RUDE. I got another pain dr.
