Dr. Luis Jeronimo Castro

Three years ago, I needed a heart valve replacement. I spent a week in a local hospital in Mississippi waiting for surgery before being dismissed the day before the surgery was scheduled. The surgeon planning to do the surgery was not sure he could perform the surgery successfully with the health conditions I had at the time. After going back home, I searched online to find someone who specialized in heart valve replacements and found Dr. Castro. I called his office and was greeted by a kind lady named Liz. She could tell by the way I was breathing that I was in dire need of medical attention. Had it not been for her, I may have not made it to see Dr. Castro. On Thursday, Liz set me up for an appointment 2000 miles away for the following Tuesday. Dr. Castro spoke to not only me, but my sons, reassuring us that he could do what the surgeons I had previously seen thought was impossible. He and his staff were so knowledgeable and kind. They took the time to treat my like they genuinely cared. He even called me personally after getting back home to Mississippi to make sure that I was still doing well. Not only was his staff very professional, I also cannot say enough about all the staff at Sequoia Hospital. I am not one to make recommendations, but I feel like it would be worth your time, if needing a heart valve replacement, to reach out to Dr. Castro and his staff and Sequoia Hospital. I am very thankful for all they did for me.

Dr. Castro is the best cardiac surgeon I could have picked! I am in my 20s and needed repair of my mitral valve. My family and I were extremely nervous because I am a young female with a whole life ahead. As a pre-med I was very cautious about who does my surgery and how it would be done. I went to cedars sinai, stanford, etc., but Dr. Castro was the most genuine and most experienced of all. He was able to operate under my right breast with minimal scarring. I got my Triscupid valve replacement for a very complicated congenital heart condition. He was the go to person from my cardiologist and explained me the process of whats going to be done. in most case replacing triscupid valve is very risky but for it was a must. Dr. Castro looked at my case and gave specifics on what will done whats is risk appetite and other details which was very helpful and made our choice to do the surgery or not easier. After the surgery it took me a couple of months to recover and it was no problem afterwards. Thank you dr.Castro for all your hard work

Dr. Castro performed a second open heart surgery on me. My first was done by a good surgeon, but he overlooked two damaged valves when replacing my aortic valve. 2nd open heart surgeries are more difficult so I sought a specialist and Dr. Castro's name kept popping up as the go to guy. Maybe one of my best ever decisions! One year after surgery and I am hiking, biking and pretty much doing what I want. Just had an echo and everything came up "normal" with an EF of 60% (it had been around 30%). Besides being a great surgeon, he is also a nice, down to earth person. He has a sense of humor and after the surgery, when my regular cardiologist did not follow up well, Dr. Castro picked up the ball and helped me through my recovery. My favorite comment from Dr. Castro was, "it was a pretty easy surgery....well, I mean for me, not for you!" If you need open heart surgery, especially a redo, Dr Castro is absolutely the best.

I can't adequately express how grateful I am to Dr. Castro and his entire team. When my rare congenital heart defect reached the point where aortic valve replacement was necessary, I consulted with several well-known local Los Angeles heart surgeons. Despite their credentials and experience, none of them gave me the confidence to trust them with my life. Then I found Dr. Castro. His online videos were impressive, but it was our phone consultations that really convinced me to fly from LA to San Francisco for the procedure. Dr. Castro's confident knowledge and expertise amazed me. He even discovered something in the tests that every other surgeon had completely missed - a dangerous aneurism. Just as reassuring as his brilliance and his calm demeanor, was the fact that he sincerely cared about me as a patient and as a person. He told me that he absolutely would not let my child grow up without her mother. (In fact, his fatality rate is zero.) He patiently answered all of my questions and made it clear I could call him personally with any concerns I had. His assistant Claudia was fantastic. She coordinated all the scheduling with me over the phone, followed up on all my questions, gave me directions to the hospital, and even set up my pre-operative stay at Sequoia House, the medical group's low-cost lodging right next to the hospital. She was on top of every detail. Nurses Dana and Kelly took care of all of my needs before and after the surgery with kindness and efficiency. They are angels. Dr. Castro and his outstanding surgery partner, Dr. Harmon, flawlessly performed the valve surgery and fixed the aneurism in less than half the time it takes most other surgeons. The post-op team was phenomenal, and the staff at Sequoia Hospital couldn't have been more professional or accommodating. Only two months after the surgery, I was walking three miles a day! A year later, I'm still going strong. I have more energy and stamina, and I feel better than I have in years. Dr. Castro fixed two problems with me. I am 100% happy and have completely recovered. I had a bad valve and an undiagnosed aorta problem. After fixing the valve, Dr. Castro noticed the aorta problem and repaired that too.

It’s difficult to put into words how grateful my family and I are, that we found Dr. Luis Castro. We went from being told that there was nothing more that can be done for my father and that it was only a matter of time, to Dr. Castro saying, “I’m 95% certain that I can fix and reverse your dad’s condition.” When other medical professionals had given up on my father, luckily, he did not! Dr. Castro is a gifted Surgeon, a man of honor and sincerity, a true gem!

Dr. Castro is a truly gifted surgeon. He did my mitral valve repair on January 15, 2020. He was able to make the repair through a 3 1/2" incision (mini lower sternotomy) at the bottom of my sternum, so the incision is barley visible. I did most of my recovery during my 5 days in the hospital. I'm feeling great 2 weeks out and I give a lot of the credit to Dr. Castro's entire team and their amazing care! I'm not one to usually write reviews, but this was a no brainer when it comes to something as important as heart surgery. I did my research and got the best! Thank you, Dr. Castro and your superior team from the bottom of my refurbished heart!

Dr. Castro did coronary bypass surgery plus a mitral valve repair. The surgery was successful and I have had no problems in 8 months since I had the surgery. I recommend Dr. Castro without reservations.

Words cannot express how grateful I am to Dr. Luis Castro and Dr. Harmon & their ENTIRE surgical team they used for my heart valve procedure! Dr. Castro initially caught two aneurysms that could have lead to me having a stroke at any moment which would have cost me my life! Another so called top heart surgeon in the Los Angeles area ordered the test with these findings!... And it was Dr. Castro who informed me during a phone consultation explaining the grave danger I was in & that surgery needed to happen VERY soon! I was so impressed with Dr. Castro during that phone consultation that I scheduled my surgery with his lovely assistant Claudia and got things moving quickly! I will never forget Dr. Castro for his outstanding level of care and expertise and will forever be grateful to both him and Dr. Harmon for saving my life! Dr. Castro is an amazing cardiac surgeon who did open heart surgery on my husband and he is well known all over the United States. He explains well what the client may be suffering health wise and helps the patient to recover from whatever heart issue including surgery. He is the most kind and gracious person and doctor and He has a calm way of helping his patients with their heart issues. I had a triple bypass procedure on May 23, 2017, by Dr. Castro and his team. I could not be more happy with the result. We met a few weeks before and he was great in explaining the surgery and the many issues that I could expect. He visited me before the surgery and a few times after. He kept my sister apprised of my recovery. The ICU and CCU staffs were top notch in my recovery. I was home in six days and am recovering great. I recommend Dr. Castro and the entire staff at Sequoia Hospital.

I had a big problem, Hipertrophyc Cardiomiopathy , I saw several Doctors including some in Mexico City, the opinions were not too favorable. Fortunately I run into the ratings of US News and found one of the best ever Surgeons to perform this kind of surgery. Dr. Luis Castro kindness, knowledge and reassurance that everything would be all right decided me to trust him. More then a year after my surgery I am so glad and thankful for what Dr. Luis Castro did for me, I'm back a 100% of what I used to be. Thanks a million Dr. Luis Castro. .!! I read several great reviews about Dr Castro and can now testify to the great work he does! He explained everything before the surgery and helped to clear any doubts I had about having open heart surgery. I owe a great deal of gratitude to Dr Castro and his team for the care they took in making sure everything would turn out well. There's not enough words to thank him for the great experience and the peace of mind I had while there. I would recommend anyone to see Dr Castro for heart surgery.

I had an excellent surgical experience with Dr. Luis Castro and his team at Sequoia Hospital. Due to endocarditis, I had a severely damaged mitral valve. Dr. Castro, with his expertise and skill, was able to repair my valve. I feel so fortunate that he was my surgeon! His entire team is outstanding. Also, the care I received at Sequoia Hospital was first rate. I couldn't be happier with the results!

It has been a year since Dr. Castro and his team repaired my mitral valve. I lead an active life and have had no complications. My wife and I are profoundly grateful to Dr. Castro and Seqouia Hosital. If you need open heart surgery, go to Dr. Castro.
