Dr. Louis I Astra

Dr.Astra is God Sent. Deserving his Retirement. Magnificent surgeon. Unfortunately I have not been able to find a Dr. like him.

He saved my life. He is a very caring Dr and listened & explained the orocedure very well. Was never rushed when we meet for after care.

I met Dr Astra after I feel off my horse and broke several ribs, I really made the mistake of ditching off the side when he spooked so bad Well Advent ER convincingly told me I should be observed overnight. Well I still am not sure how many ribs broke and the numbers on the neumothorax were around 15%-20%. Well saw Dr Astra that evening briefly and he said we will push oxygen and it should improve I was told I would see him at 9Am. Noon came and they took off the mask said oxygen good and heart rate so that Doctor said ready to go will submit script and we will give you something for pain. The Nasid he prescribed made me sick they wanted to add an anti nausea drug but I said no. Then at 12:30 they run in and tell me they are not releasing me and nothing by mouth (of course they had already given me breakfast. My husband comes up, he does not want me in hospital with a chest tube. My internist back in Baltimore said that’s a very invasive procedure and extremely painful., also you could try to discuss needle aspiration, with follow up. So end of story Dr. Astra rushes in. We start to ask to see the X-rays, Dr. Astra says he has no time problem in surgery today I’m too busy you went to 20% (question wasn’t it around that yesterday can you please show us on xrays. No he has surgeries too busy, my husband was really mad and he told the Dr. We were leaving AMA. Form is rushed to me, I signed it to get out but I WAS NOT informed so it was not an informed consent. Follow up fall from horse Monday around noon spent Tuesday and Wednesday until 3pm. In Advent ER then North Pinellas Advent. Went home suffered thru until Primary at 8am Friday. X-rays showed neumothorax down to 5%. Stay still and relax 4-6 weeks. Gave me a few day of pain pills and went home Dr. Astra was unprofessional, rude, and refused to give us any info. I mean he was just angry and nasty when questioned. Extremely bad experience

Dr. Astra is an excellent doctor. Well educated with great bedside manner. backup staff knows what they are doing Highly recommend.

Had hernia surgery and was totally satisfied with Dr. Astra and the Hospital staff . Very caring and helpful with all my needs. He is a very experienced Dr. and has excellent skills

Dr. Astra is amazing, I had 3 prior hernia surgeries and he saved my life. He preformed a 4th repair because of what the prior surgeons had done to me my insides were like (in Dr Astra's words) swiss cheese & I dever oped a blockage. Dr Astra worked on me for over 7 hrs and I've been great with no problems for the past 2 yrs. He's very compassionate and he listens.

Dr astra cleaned up the mess that another surgeon did after I contracted an infection in my sternum he tightened up my chest flaps and the infection is about gone
