Dr. Larry L Shears II

I was referred to Dr Shears for an Ascending Aortic Aneurysm. I had an initial surgical consultation with him, and he really took the time to explain my condition. Since this condition requires open heart surgery with a bypass, I had many questions that he took the time to answer. I left with a very good understanding of what was involved. I also had the opportunity to consult with a leading cardiothoracic surgeon from Mayo Clinic. Getting the testing information over to Mayo was a major hurdle that took almost 2 months to accomplish, and the imaging that Erlanger finally mailed to the Mayo clinic lacked resolution and detail. I'm not saying that Erlanger prolonged the process or degraded the imaging on purpose, but it did seem suspicious. Especially after the May surgeon determined that I'm not yet a candidate for this surgical treatment, but will be in the future. Seemed like Erlanger wanted the business and was aggressive in getting that business.

Wonderful doctor he is. 6 months after surgery I feel if it were not for him and the staff I would not be amoung the living.

Dr. Shears is one of best surgeons in the country! He was highly sought after and we were fortunate to be chosen as his next home! He performed my triple by-pass in 2016. This doctor is an arrogant and incompetent quack. Once he's done cutting you open and performing sub-standard work, you will probably never see him again and have to deal with his rude condescending assistants. This piece of garbage left a gaping open chest wound in my mothers chest after surgery which she later died from. Do NOT use this piece of excrement for your medical needs. You might not live to regret it.

If you want to actually live, don't go see this quack. He left a gaping open chest wound in my mother after surgery which she later died from. After butchering my mother he never followed up or was ever seen again. This piece of garbage should NOT be practicing medicine and quite frankly should be doing time for murder.

My wife seen Mr Shears in the ER at Erlanger Medical center with a blood clot in her Aorta. He was very compassionate and caring with taking care of her and making sure I understood everything that was going to happen to her. Thanks to him my wife is alive and well today.

Dr. Larry Shears is one of the best surgeons in the country. He has attention to detail, great outcomes, and is an extremely precise surgeon. His staff is exceptional. I would highly recommend him as your Heart Surgeon.

Doctor Shears was the surgeon who did my Husbands triple bypass over 8 years ago....he is our hero.

Throughly impressed with this surgeon. Professional, knowledgeable with fast patient recovery. Highly recommend personally and by other nurses taking care of his patients.

One year ago on 3-14-18 I suffered an Aortic Dissection. I owe so much to Dr Shears and his team. My Dissection was extensive and the surgery was long. I awoke on 3-15-18 beating the Odds and continued to improve and after 5 days in ICU and 10 days in patient PT, I went home and was back to work in 5 weeks. I can't say enough how grateful I was taken to Erlanger on that day and I was fortunate enough to have Dr, Shears as my surgeon. One year ago on 3-14-18 I suffered an Aortic Dissection. Dr. Shears was my surgeon for triple by pass a little over a year ago. I cannot thank Dr. Shears, his staff, surgical tech, assistants, nurses, and Erlanger Hospital enough for the care they gave me during this time. Dr. Shears surrounds his self with a good reliable team to help with the surgery before and after. You don't really see or talk to him much. Dr. Shears is my hero. While Enlarger Emergency was rescuing me from septic blood poisoning (unknown cause), they discovered I had blockages in 3 heart arteries (90%, 70%, 30%). They determined I needed a bypass operation as quickly as possible after the poisoning. Dr. Shears took on my case even though I was severely weakened following that event. The surgery was done 2/14/18; last week 3/22/18, he released me to my cardiologist as being on track toward recovery. Being 84, and already weakened, recovery will probably take a few months. Dr. Shears explained everything before and after the operation. His nurse practitioner Jasmin answered any question still on my mind. Hey, you don't get to be Chief of Cardiac Surgery and Co-Director of UT Erlanger Heart & Lung Institute without being a top surgeon. What can I say about the genius Dr. Shears? He is straight to the point when it comes to pre op meetings and follow ups, but ?? percent on point when it comes to the actual surgery. I absolutely couldn’t have asked for a better surgeon to operate on the love of my life. It went so smoothly that it seemed like a routine surgery. I know it wasn’t routine but he is that good. She is up walking and i have to get on to her when she does the dishes. This is all within a week??He saved her life.

Dr Shears is one of the most amazing doctor's I have ever had the pleasure to meet.I wonder if he really knows what a amazing doctor he really is.A few weeks ago,I was so blessed by doctor Shears when he repaired my heart.He gave me back my life with his blessings,like so many before me an am so sure many more to come.His love for his patients is unbelievable.For as long as I live, I will never forget Dr Shears,an the blessing he gave to me.One Very Special Man With A Heart of Gold.we love you.
