Dr. Kevin Clifford Gaffney

From reading many reviews I believe he has little or no experience in this field. He was an Engineer before he became a Neurologist in short period. I was referred to him by my doctor but after reading so many negative reviews I decided not to bother.

I’ve been going here since I was 15 for epilepsy and I’ve only had one major seizure under his watch due to ME wanting to switch meds. He may not be what you want but he’s what you need. He literally types down your every word for every visit and it’s all evaluated over time. I’m 30 now and doing just fine with him as my long time neurologist. I actually really like Dr. Gaffney as a doctor. Sadly, it’s near impossible to get an appointment scheduled or refills because of incompetence of Mischer group that answers the phone. I had to call 3 times and the lame excuse was we are undergoing a platform change. Now I really have a migraine from dealing with folks that can’t do a simple task! I saw Dr. Gaffney at the beginning of this year. I started having major migraines in the fall of last year. It felt like an ice pick was being shoved through my head. I took some time to write out my symptoms, when they occurred, sleep schedule, and eating habits. At this point I had seen my GP 3 times via video visit but they wouldn’t see me in person due to migraines being a symptom of COVID. Gaffney was my last hope but when he walked into the room, I had to tell him my story and hardly a single question was asked. Basically chocked my symptoms up to being related to my period or lots of stress at work. This was rather annoying because this is what my GP said as well. I wouldn’t go to a neurologist instead of a GP if I wasn’t concerned that something was seriously wrong with my noggin. I expressed this as well. I felt like the visit was a total waste of time. A few weeks later I woke up and had an insane amount of nausea. Turns out I had a grade 3 astrocytoma. My tumor was about the size of my iPhone or even bigger on the right temporal side of my lobe. Dr. Gaffney successfully treats complicated migraine issues. He is professional and respectful. Nurse Janet is stellar.

NO WAIT! Was seen at exactly my appointment time! Superb COVID precautions scrupulously observed!!! Saw Dr Gaffney today with a problem I’ve been dealing with for a long time. Other Dr have missed diagnosis ! He diagnosed problem immediately, proscribed reasonable course of treatment and I skipped out of the office! Dr Gaffney is practical, smart and caring! Dr Gaffney literally knew what I had almost immediately. He diagnosed me with Trigeminal Neuralgia of 5 nerves. Other neurologists and tons of tests..no answers and I was in horrible pain. Then Dr Gaffney came into my life. He is a great doctor and Janet, his nurse, is awesome! Thank you for caring????

Dr. Gaffney is a wonderful doctor. His knowledge is excellent. As an MS patient, Dr. Gaffney's has answered all of my questions and provided excellent treatment! I highly recommend him!

Total waste of time comes up with weird diagnosis that only he has heard of. My favorite is Mortons Neuroma. Its an issue with the foot seems no other foot dr heard of it

I have always had a good experience with the doctor and his nursing staff over my past over fifteen years as a patient but more recently over the past year or so I have noticed a change in the quality of service received from staff where they can not locate my prescription requests one time last year the person supposed to handle that was out so it got handled later. Today I was hung up on I thought on accident at first but when I called back I was hung up on again the girl refused to confirm my phone number in her system and wanted me to tell her my phone number which defeats the purpose of letting me know what number was there to begin with and resolve whether the correct number was there to begin with and why I never received a call prior to my appointment last September. If I acted in such a manner with my clients it would be a problem. Very unhappy with the treatment received I hope it gets resolved the attitude that I got was we can set you an appointment if that what the doctor wants and I am confused isn’t that what needs to happen if I didn’t allegedly show up ? So that I can continue to receive my medication. I have none of these kinds of issues with my other doctor offices. I had my first appointment with him July 5th. I was switching from a Neuro I was very displeased with and Dr. Gaffney definitely was refreshing. He sat with me for a long time and answered all of my questions.

Dr. Gaffney helped me eliminate migraines. He is thorough, listens and answers questions. Highly recommend.

Pleased that everyone in the reception area was friendly and professional. Have been in two times and had no wait. Very prompt and on time for appointments. Jasmine, his NP is very good. Dr. Gaffney has been working to solve the problem I have experienced. He is very interested in his patients and helping them. Very comfortable having Dr. Gaffney for my doctor.

If I could give 0 stars I would. My mother has late stage dementia and Dr. Gaffney has treated her like a lost cause since day one. We have contacted his office and left messages 3 times in the last week with no response!

Waste of time. I was litterally in and out in less than 5 minutes. . He stated - "I dont care about other doctors opinions" -about prior daignoses and treatments, mri's and blood tests. But then went on to say there is nothing wrong. Then went on to ask me for blood. I told him - No its ok, you said there's nothing wrong. A real doctor actually takes into consideration prior medical history and labs and runs test before coming to a conclusion. Wow, it's quite unfortunate that he is the only sleep medicine doctor locally that is in network with my insurance. Everyone else is over 2 hours away. His office staff is absolutely inconsiderate and rude. Trying to schedule an appointment with him and all scheduling wants to do is argue with me back and forth. I have been trying to get my new patient paperwork for over a week and it still hasn't come through my email. I've checked all my folders including spam. The forms are supposedly available on the patient portal, but when I go to that section it tells me I have no forms available to fill out at this time. He can't get me in until the middle of September and we are in May right now. I guess that gives me time to keep fighting with his staff to get my forms filled out. What a nightmare. Dr. Gaffney is a coo coo head. Before I went to see him, I read most of the reviews on here. Most of them are bad, however, I wasn’t expecting him to be as bad in person. My doctor visit with him was very brief. He came in, sat down, and began to talk with his head facing the wall. I couldn’t tell if he was uncomfortable or not but he seemed very off. He finally looked at me and started asking me some questions about how tired I am and this and that. I was answering and after I did he got up and leaves the room for no reason. I wasn’t sure if he was going to get something or if he felt sick etc... I got the vibe that he had no response to what I had said so he panicked and left. Very unlike a doctor. When he comes back he sits for a moment and then tells me that my sleep study test looks like I was taking something aka drugs (which I’ve never done in my life) and he starts basically telling me and my mom that I was definitely on a drug right before my sleep study test. Then, he goes on to tell me that because I can control my sleepiness during the day despite how crazy tired I am, that I’m not sleeping at all. This man didn’t seem like a doctor. He had no feedback to all the info that I provided, insisted that I was on a drug, and told my I wasn’t sleepy all. At the end of the maybe 8 min visit, he said I’ll order you a 24 hour day test to see if you’re actually sleepy. What a jerk! This man is self-centered, egotistical, and looks like a pedifile. I really don't know if Dr. Gaffney is a good doctor or not. My wife has a neurological condition that causes extreme itching in her arms. Dr. Gaffney could not established the problem and that's fine with me. The thing is that he treated my wife really bad, did not answer any question, refuses to dig in the problem and on top of that pretended that I took my wife again to see him so she could get medicated (?). In other words, he wanted my wife back just to charge another office visit with our having a clue on her condition. He is very professional and thorough! He ensures that I always have what I need whether its medication, an MRI, etc. He is open to listening to any question or concern I or my family may have :)

I have gone to Dr. Gaffney since I was 13 years old for chronic migraines and he is truly great. He always worked so well with me as a young teenager and is still wonderful to work with as an adult. Actually - I currently live and work in Dallas and still will drive to the Houston area to visit him as my neurologist. I’m really surprised by all the negative reviews. I found Dr. Gaffney very thorough and professional. I’ve been to a few neurologist and he is by far the best in the area. I liked the whole Memorial Hermann office and would definitely recommend this clinic to anyone looking for a good neurologist.

I would give him zero stars. He does not return phone calls. His answering service says he does not respond to his pages. Has no compassion for my mother with dementia. She has had 2 seizures in the last week. We have left 3 messages for him but he will not respond. Do not take anyone you care about to this doctor.

Very unprofessional! I called to make an appointment for my husband who was assaulted with multiple face fractures. Per our surgeon request we were to follow up with a Neurologist ASAP due to his persistent dull headaches to ensure there was not an underlying issue going untreated, especially since he would be going under anesthesia for surgery. This office couldn’t get us in for an appointment for over 1 month! I work in the medical profession for a Specialist and we add patients to our schedule for emergent concerns daily, even if we are completely booked and running behind. This office explained that since my husband was seen at the ER and discharged that this is not considered an emergency. I wouldn’t take anyone to this office if that is their take on a possible head injury after trauma. Just like our surgeon said, “things can change, and something could have been missed!” JUST WOW! Dr. Gaffney is great. I love the staff and I had a very good experience. He figured out the issue and got me on a good regimen to deal with my diagnosis.

Been going to him for years to treat my migraines. Very professional and thorough. The only down side is it does take a long time to get in because he is in such high demand.

Quack doctor, avoid at all costs. Extremely condescending, smug, rude, incompetent, and will rush you out with a bogus diagnosis in under five minutes. Clearly doesn't care about his patients at all. He should have his medical license taken away.

Dr Gaffney is a fine, knowledgeable gentleman. UNFORTUNATELY his affiliation with Mischer Neurosciences Clinic of Hermann Memorial Hospital System, Houston, Texas hanesss him hamstrung. You NEVER, NEVER get a real person on the phone, even to make an appointment!!! This is an indicator for being understaffed. It is also an indicator for Hermann Memorial support staff for being in control of the infrastructure and support of Gaffney's office. Gaffney's effectiveness is being wasted!! SAD!!!

Dr.Gaffney is very detail oriented and thorough. He asks the right questions and is always willing to listen when I have something to add. He is extremely knowledgeable and forthright and he always treats me with respect.

I met with Dr. Gaffney in early 2012, after I had an experienced of an extreme headache with nausea which resulted in a visit to the ER. many test were done at that time. He had me touch my nose with my finger and a couple of other similar tests. He concluded nothing was wrong with me after 5 minutes and sent me home. I suffered a large ruptured aneurysm last year. I can only conclude that had he pursued my symptoms I would have been treated prior to the rupture.

I found Dr. Gaffney to be an excellent medical provider. I was able to get an appointment quickly, he answered all of my questions in detail but in a way that was easily understood. He provided recommendations for follow-ups with other doctors and even periodically called to check on my progress between appointments. After being treated by several different doctors over the course of many years I can honestly say that his care is the best I have experienced.

I had an appointment with Dr. Gaffney to have botox injections for my medical condition. After waiting a month and a half to have the injections his office called me 3 days before my appt letting me know that my medication had been denied by my insurance company. His office waited until the last minute to pre-certify the medication and now they instructed me to find someone else or show up with $800 to pay for the botox out of pocket. His office should have let me know this much sooner than 3 days before my appointment. Now I have to wait three months to get an appointment with another doctor. Very poor office staff. Dr Gaffney order lab test thru a lab that was not on my insurance and did not advise me. This cost me over $2,000. He refused to take any responsbilty for his actions.
