De. Kathleen hand, Was very detail on what was happening with me and her knowledgeable. I’ve never had a doctor that would take the time to explain to me and show me on the board what was happening. It is very true I’m overweight and I need to follow a more strict diet to get to where I need to be , and maybe I won’t need to be taking all this medication.

I called to make an appointment and the woman on the other end of the phone told me that I could not get an appointment until I fill out the paperwork. I can call any other doctor anywhere to get an appointment without filling out the paperwork. The paperwork can be filled out in the office of any doctor’s office. Some folks don’t have access to a printer/technology, are not techie savvy also the emailed paperwork format doesn’t allow one to type onto the forms. First couple of visits Dr. Hands was great and I was relieved to find a great thyroid doctor. After about 6 to 8 months I had done some research and wanted to get her opinion. I scheduled my appt and planned on paying $150 just to sit and talk with her. I arrived and the receptionist was a pleasure like always and got me checked in. She went to get Dr. Hands and Hands went off on her for scheduling me an appt without labs. She tried to explain that I just want to talk to her and she stated "what is there to talk about about he doesn't have labs, you need to stop scheduling these people without labs" Dr. Hands was extremely unprofessional and humiliated the receptionist as if she was a child. If you want a disrespectful, rude, washed up doctor that just moves people like cattle applying the same old techniques no matter the situation and can't think outside the box or really do anything without labs she is the one for you. I lost all respect for her and I really wish her receptionist would realize the toxic hostile work environment she works in and moves on to someone that actually appreciates her. Being in the medical field myself I can attest that her mannerism needs mellowing. She just has a very domineering personality that can become overwhelming. Aside from that her expertise in thyroid disorders come from her days before she became an m.d. She graduated from medical school in San Saba not very long ago. New to San Antonio I needed to find a new endocrinologist. I am use to having my labs run prior to my appointments but she did not have any labs done. She took me off my drugs almost entirely saying I was on way to high of a dosage. Not sure how she could make that claim since she didn’t see any of my levels. Looking back I wish I had walked out and never returned and found a new doctor but I didn’t. Being off my medication threw me into a huge hashimotos flare for months. Rapid heart rate, horrible aches, hair falling out and bed ridden for months. After calling multiple times telling her my symptoms she finally had me go get labs pulled and called me back saying, oh your levels are 10 times higher that normal add 2 pills a week. At that I called my old endocrinologist almost crying from the pain I was in. He was livid stating no doctor should remove your medications without ordering labs. I am back on my meds at a different doc and still deal with flares in and off. Avoid her!

Incredible experience. A once in a life time doctor. Dr. Hands is incredibly bright & shares her understanding of yr condition with you in detail so you understand the whys of what is happening. I had no idea of so much inc that I was incorrectly medicated and this after seeing 3 thyroid specialists previously. Dr. Hands cares & transmits her knowledge clearly & thoroughly inc priceless advice about lifestyle & other aspects to improve condition. She is honest, intuitive & compassionate whilst being no-nonsense. If you just want a pill & don't care about why this is happening you may not appreciate her but most of us want some control over our health & her information & expertise help greatly. I felt at ease, & in good hands. I recommend her highly to anyone with thyroid issues, she knows a lot & really helped me in many ways as well as sharing things I'd never ever been told & explained in detail. She's also a very nice person.

Dr. Hands was great. Knowledgeable. Thorough. Brisk and to the point but with a sense of humor. I had read other reviews of her bedside manner and was thinking, oh no. I am very grateful for Dr. Hands. I was told by another endocrinologist that I needed to be on thyroid medicine due to symptoms I was having, even though my blood work came back normal. Thankfully I went for a second opinion to Dr Hands. She did an ultrasound and with the blood work told me I should not be on thyroid medicine and that if I would have taken it, it would have screwed me up. She recommended that I get off gluten and sugar, which was a life changer for me. She was absolutely right! Boy was it hard, but so worth it! I am better and I am very grateful to Dr Hands! I love her no nonsense approach. I love that she tells it like it is. Don’t mis- take her approach to mean she is not compassionate and does not care. It is quite the opposite! I had been seeing a well know thyroid specialist and after 4 years he was so busy, I wasn't getting the quality visits and feeling terrible. I was referred to Kathleen by a friend. After reviewing my labs, she was able to help me and I feel so much better. She takes her time to explain things to me and I love her for being so thorough. Her staff is amazing. This woman is phenomenal. In one visit she fixed what 15 years (YEARS!) and multiple doctors either couldn't and some doctors believed I was making up! No one took my symptoms seriously, except Dr. Hands. She discovered my throid (by now) was completely gone, put me on thyroid meds (the right one) and had me change my diet. She worked with me, tweaking the meds to get me just right and now I feel GREAT. AND! The severity of the constant pain in all my joints is gone! I'm loosing weight for the first time in years without dieting or working out until I drop. Dr. Hands will listen to you! I recommend her to everyone! Don't wait 15 years like I did!

So disappointed with this Doctor. Horrible bedside manner. My adult daughter went in by herself and this doctor made her feel horrible about herself and about why she was even at her office. Before doing any tests, the doctors attitude was basically "laughing" at her saying you don't have this, you don't have that - attributing all of her issues stem from her being FAT. She mentioned this 4 or 5 times throughout the visit, saying you'll never be thin but.......well, my daughter is a beautiful 21 yr old, lovely young girl - even if she does need to lose weight, she is not obese and the doctor should have a little more tact! This issue has caused much angst for many years, we have been so frustrated with her symptoms and even considered going to the Mayo Clinic for some answers...we believed we were going somewhere professional to find some more information or answers but, per Dr. Hands, it felt like... why bother, going to the Mayo would have been ridiculous, because there's nothing wrong - except if course, being fat. She was very dismissive and not wiling to listen. Regardless of whether she did not believe it was anything serious, she obviously didn't want to work together WITH a new patient to get to the bottom of a problem that is a concern to the patient. Dr Hands is the best! She is very straight forward and tells you like it is. I recommend her to everyone who suffers from an Auto Immune Disease.

Dr. Hands is thorough and helped me get my levels (thyroid and hormones) in great shape quickly. I feel incredible and highly recommend making her your first stop. I wish I would have - would’ve saved me a lot of time, money, and energy.

I've been a patient of Dr Hands for 8 years. I was diagnosed with a brain tumor and because of the type of tumor it was I had to see a endocrinologist. I can say I'm happy and doing excellent after having it removed. I will see no one else except Dr. Hands. She has a strong personality and say what's on her mind so if you wear your feelings on your shoulders, she is not the Dr for you. I have been seeing Dr. Hands for the past 5 or 6 years. She is probably the smartest doctor I have ever seen. She is no nonsense, direct and efficient. She takes her time to make sure you understand things and has been a great help in managing my health. I would recommend Dr. Hands without reservation!

Went to her. She came into the room after a long wait. I get to hear her screaming at her staff while I waited. She came in, scared me to death with the thought of thyroid cancer. I had my records sent to the Mayo Clinic then went there to speak to world renown endocrinologists. He laughed at her diagnosis and told me she was crazy in a very polite and round about way. He said I was the picture of health and no I didn't need a biopsy. So happy that I got a second opinion in Minnesota. I truly think I would have had a diagnosis of thyroid cancer along with surgery if I hadn't packed my bags and hopped on a plane. Went to her. She came into the room after a long wait.
