About Katalin Scherer
Reviews for Katalin Scherer
My wife had a referral from our oncologist and were scheduled to see Dr. Scherer as my wife can barely breath due to a likely neuromuscular issue. After being on the books for 3 months, Dr. Scherer cancels 1 week before saying that she does not see patients with that condition. Do we now have to wait another 3 months to see someone else as this condition worsens?
I totally appreciate Dr. Scherer’s expertise and inquiring curiosity. My husband and I appreciated her unique sense of humor… but especially appreciated her practical sense. She did a through history of my past that may have justified some of my precious muscle /nerve damage way back to 1986! Who knew when we were young that many,of our, past medical events could follow us forever. She searched and I feel confident she is 4ight on. Thank you for your expertise. You are fabulous as a physician and diagnostician.
My husband recently started seeing her for a very rare condition. She has been very thorough, attentive, and gets our answers quickly when we call. It has been the insurance to hold things up. She has been very helpful, great bedside manner and very knowledgeable. If she's not sure about something, she looks into it. I am so very happy we found her! I like her, but she's not for everyone. She's extremely knowledgeable, has a wicked sense of humor (which meshed perfectly with mine), patiently answered all questions (especially those from my wife, who used to edit medical texts and knows the terminology better than the average layperson), never made me feel as if she didn't have time to spend (even to the point of squeezing in a diagnostic procedure when there was a last-minute cancellation), asked a lot of questions about my history/family history/symptoms/timeline-- all aimed at getting to the right diagnosis. My impression is that she takes no BS from anybody, does not suffer fools, and will give you the unvarnished truth, whether it's good news or bad.
My husband was referred to Dr Scherer in April, 2020 by his neurology group after a nerve test indicated motor neuron disease. Our first meeting with her and her resident was very thorough, reviewing all of his medical history. A few months later after rigorous physical examination, Dr Scherer informed us that my husband had ALS. She told us what life would be like living with ALS, we were shocked at her abrupt tone, and heartbroken with the diagnosis. However, Dr Scherer wrote all the orders to start my husband’s care in an efficient manner. Now a year has gone by and the disease has progressed, we’ve had several telemedicine calls with Dr Scherer and she managed his care reasonably well, but often had delays in getting orders for medicines and equipment. Just recently we’ve started hospice for him, he needed more ongoing care with being at home. Dr Scherer has denied any further care for him after initially saying that she would continue to oversee his respiratory settings. Very disappointed with her attitude and lack of compassion. We will be staying on with hospice so my husband can receive the care he needs. We have received compassion and care from others in the ALS community, so my husband and I continue to have hope for management of this devastating disease. I've had several visits with Dr. Scherer. She has misdiagnosed me twice and doesn't seem interested in putting forth the effort toward making a correct diagnosis. I've fallen through the cracks with her on more than one occasion. She lacks follow up and follow through, at least with me, and it's not like I'm not involved with my health. I'm motivated to get better. I get the feeling she just wishes I'd go away, but she need not worry about that. I'm sadly disappointed. I've had several visits with Dr. Scherer. The person who's posting very derogatory reviews must have had a bad day, didn't get whatever he demanded, or is just a grump. Dr. Scherer was extremely friendly, attentive, and reassuring. I saw her for the first time today regarding a rare condition I have, and she did a thorough exam and ordered an EMG. I'm not relapsing and even though this is the first time I've seen her, I think she was almost as ecstatic as I was at that news. I would highly recommend Dr. Scherer. I found her to be kind, attentive, informed, and helpful. It was all around a very good experience, and if I ever do relapse again, there is no question I'd put my fate in her hands to treat me. She’s horrible. Totally unwilling to take responsibility for her actions. I asked her to do 4 things for me at one of our visits, she dropped the ball on 3/4 and then had an excuse for each one that involved blaming someone else (even me, insinuating I’m just stupid). VERY bad bedside manner. When she diagnosed me with FA she was happy she was right and couldn’t hide it, and then proceeded to give me the worst case scenario. Also very lazy. Doesn’t return phone calls and doesn’t do what she says she will. Go to someone else. She’s horrible. Totally unwilling to take responsibility for her actions. Dr. Scherer is a phenomenal doctor. She is no-nonsense in her communication, but that's only because she is so good at what she does. Without her, I'm certain that I would still be sitting at home in horrible pain, dying, wondering what was wrong with my body (Miyoshi Muscular Dystrophy, Von Eulenburg, seizures, others). She is brilliant, intuitive, and uses her obvious talent in neuromuscular specialization to do everything she can to help her patients. She is invaluable to medicine-and to me.
Dr Scherer and her team are absolutely the best! After years of "hit & miss" treatment of my wife's Myasthenia Gravis, Dr Scherer accomplished more in a matter of months than the others did in years. Our initial appointment with her and an associate was totally comprehensive and lasted over 2 hours. Dr Scherer really cares and certainly knows what she is doing! (If she doesn't have an immediate answer, she WILL find it!) We are blessed to have her caring for my wife! Dr Scherer and her team are absolutely the best! These were terrible appointments with Dr. Scherer, she interacts with patients in an abrupt and unprofessional manner. The best example included 10 minutes of examination and her confirmation that she believed it was ALS. Obviously my mother was very distraught and Dr. Scherer literally said "We all will eventually die, you just will die sooner". I post this so that you seek out a different physician when dealing with a disease like ALS. Mayo was a superior experience and very supportive.
I recently took my son to see Dr.Scherer and I found her to be very knowledgeable, very thorough, pleasant and really good with my son who's ten. She helped us understand his condition and was very helpful as with regards to going forward with his treatment.
I usually look at reviews with a grain of salt, but the negative reviews here are spot on. She came into the room with a bad attitude, and she was outright insulting. To describe what went on in there would take a whole page; I am just glad to get out of there...i am more concerned about her students because inevitably they will take cues from this very unprofessional woman and really, we don't need doctors like this.
She's a great dr. I was diagnosed with a very rare medical condition that no other Dr could recognized. She always a pleasure to deal with.
Dr scherer was completely disinterested as to why we were there for the third time. When she was the one that said to come back. She was rude to the point of bitchy. Never would I recommend her. She has zero compassion for her patients.
I was diagnosed with Neuropathy at TMC Hospital. She disagreed with the diagnosis and sent me for a MRI.She sent my results by letter even though there is a system in place to reach patients by internet called MY Chart. The letter was incomprehensible for a lay person to understand. Bottom line.. no serious problems even though in her office she had me do a series of leg movements that were of concern. Come back in 3-6 months,no further explanations or follow ups. What??
