Dr. Karen W Corvin

She has been my doctor for years. I also work with her in surgery. She is kind, knowledgeable and competent. I actually look forward to my yearly visit with her.

Please, do your research on Dr. Corvin. I was seen by her for a number of years. I had an awful experience during a surgery. I almost died. I spent several weeks in the hospital, and even when I was finally released my recovery at home was a long process. I still have medical issues after the surgery. Please, please, do your research.

On January 29, 2015, I was scheduled for a hysterectomy at Rex Hospital in Raleigh, NC. The procedure was only supposed to require an overnight stay. Unfortunately, during the procedure (the initial incision, actually), my gynecologist Dr. Karen Corvin of Blue Ridge OBGYN punctured my inferior vena cava, caused a hematoma, respiratory failure, my blood pressure dropped, the right side of my heart stopped, I was resuscitated by a staff of anesthesiologists, and my entire abdominal area was cut open by a staff of vascular surgeons in an effort to perform exploratory surgery, leaving me with a 9” inch vertical scar from my breast bone to my pubic area. The hysterectomy could not be performed and was immediately turned into emergency lifesaving surgery. Because of Dr. Corvin's error, I spent 10 days being treated at Rex Hospital for injuries associated with the damage to my heart and abdominal area. I later spent 2 months recovering at home from my injuries. Do not trust Blue Ridge OBGYN and definitely stay far away from Dr. Corvin. I wish I could give her ZERO stars.

The good: Office staff are friendly. The bad: Dr. Corvin's bedside manner leaves a lot to be desired. I went in for a consult and did not appreciate the condescending, inconsiderate way I was talked to. She was also rough during my physical exam. I will not be going back.

KAREN CORVIN OF BLUE RIDGE OBGYN and during the procedure, she punctured my inferior vena cava, caused a hematoma, respiratory failure, a drop in blood pressure, the right side of my heart stopped functioning, I DIED, and I had to be resuscitated. After Dr Corvin punctured my inferior vena cava, the hysterectomy immediately turned into lifesaving surgery. I DIED during surgery because of Dr. Corvin's error, the hysterectomy could not be performed and I was hospitalized for 10 days. I wish I could give 0 stars. Dr. Corvin is a compassionate gynecologist who speaks in terms that are easily understood. No doubt her knowledge and bedside manner are greatly appreciated by all of her patients, and I am fortunate to have found her. I particularly appreciate her listening to me and her attention to my own thoughts about treatment.

Dr. Corvin has consistently been professional and caring no matter what has been needed with my care. She has gone above and beyond making sure I understand and am comfortable with whatever procedure I've had to endure.

Because of Dr. Corvin's error, the hysterectomy could not be performed and I spent the next 10 days being treated at Rex Hospital by various medical professionals who were not in-network with my insurance carrier. Although my insurance paid a significant portion of my hospitalization expenses, I still have incurred nearly $17K in medical bills and deductibles from out-of-network providers that resulted from Dr Corvin's error and through absolutely no fault of my own. I have used Dr. Corvin's office for about 2 years for my annual exam. I have always had a quick and easy experience. She has always been willing to talk through any concerns I have, and I enjoy every appointment I have had.
