Dr. Justin Allen Fowler

Extremely disappointed. Went in about bunion surgery and only told me he didn't think surgery was a good option for me to come back when I couldn't get a shoe on which makes no sense to me. I have messaged him twice asking why doesn't he think surgery is a good option for me and that it seems it would keep getting worse and I'd eventually have to get it done, why not do it before it gets worse and I can have it done while I'm younger and better able to recover. Still I just keep getting same response saying he doesn't think its a good option for me and to treat conservatively with shoe gear. I also had some rough places I wanted trimmed while I was there, which has never been a problem with any other foot dr I went to. He made a big deal over it saying its usually not included and insurance might not cover, which wasn't true. I'm never seeing him again!

I have psoriatic arthritis and it affects my nails. I’m forced to trim my nails very short which has resulted in ingrown toenails. I’m horribly embarrassed by this and was reluctant to see a doctor. Well, you can imagine my mortification to see a young handsome doctor looking at my embarrassing toenails. I’m only 34. Yikes! Anyway, he was very kind and did a great job. Completely non-judgemental. His bedside manner is impeccable and he’s extremely efficient. I came in today for my other toenail. He previously corrected the left big toenail for me. I was having a very off day. I have several autoimmune diseases and everything was flared up. I was embarrassed to use my cane and for whatever reason the whole visit just had me feeling emotional. Sometimes when you have chronic illness it’s the little things that bring the tears. So I was just a teary mess! He was so kind and so was his nurse. He was very good at distracting me with conversation.

My father was severely neglected under the care of Dr. Fowler. He “treated” him for 7 weeks for an ulcer on his foot. My father was told to put neosporin and a bandage on it. After 7 weeks, of repeated visits to Dr. Fowler, my Dad developed fever and chills. We rushed him to UNC and he was admitted immediately and precscribed IV antibiotics. He is having surgery tomorrow because the infection is now in his bone. He may lose part of his foot. He has been diagnosed with osteomyelitis and cellulitis. He is on two IV antibiotics and will be for 6-8 weeks. We are thankful that UNC has him in their care now. We will never recommend Dr. Fowler and consider his lack of proper care for my Dad to be the primary reason that he is now so sick. The staff at UNC could not believe that a podiatrist had allowed this ulcer to progress as it had. We are praying that his foot can be saved and that he will be able to resume his day to day activities soon. I contacted Dr. Fowler’s office yesterday to make him aware of the situation and of course I have not gotten a call back. Nor has he attempted to contact my father to check on him.
