Dr. Joydip Bhattacharya

This Doctor lacks experience and intellect in the field of Young Onset, Atypical and simple “Parkinsonism”. He failed to explain my rigidity, tremors and overall symptoms of Parkinson’s disease where many others in his field would have been conscious of. His “Ego” as a man is where you will see his weakness as he is too attached to “I have 25 years of doing this job” rather than be open to possibly being incorrect or just plain wrong. I reminded him of his Ego on my way out and he put his hand on my shoulder until I demanded he stop touching me very firmly as he needed to be disciplined by another human in a verbal manner. Tell everyone who steer clear of his office for fear of misdiagnosing and lack of current information regarding Parkinson’s disease.

Dr Bhattacharya seems to mean well but he’s failed me dramatically as my neuro and as a result my condition has gone largely Untreated for 5 years and I almost died recently as a result. He doesn’t really seem to listen and outwardly is very aloof.

Joydip Bhattacharya is extremely invalidating. One of his first statements upon reading my medical history was "You do not have hypermobility." This was my first meeting with him, and yes, an actual rheumatologist gave me the diagnosis of hypermobility. I was taken aback as to why he would choose to step outside of his field without prompting, but continued the session. He proceeded to run a janky POTS test, no tilt table, and no timer, just him speaking to me and taking my pulse at random intervals and in various positions. At the end of the session he asked me about the brace on my right ankle, apparently hadn't noticed the other three braces (one on each ankle, one on each wrist), and said; "did you injure yourself?" I answered with some irritation that the braces are a preventative measure for the HYPERMOBILITY, and proceeded to touch my elbows behind my back, bend over and place my hands flat on the floor (I can easily go further), and inform him my right leg can reach almost to the back of my head. Upon this, he exclaimed, "Oh, maybe you do have hypermobility." Yes. That's why a QUALIFIED professional wrote the diagnosis. Completely unnecessary, unprofessional, invalidating, and wrong. I found him dismissive, talking to my wife majority of the time instead of me, like I was not mentally capable. Summarily, the meeting was a waste of time and did not amount to anything useful to follow-on. I'm cancelling my next appointment and will be looking for another neurologist.

Dr Bhattacharya is great, assuming you can get to see him. His office staff however is not so great. It took three calls and two weeks for them to get my insurance paperwork submitted for physical therapy. Not once did they return one of my calls. They don't call you to make a follow up appt. Instead there's an automated system that calls you to remind you to call them. When you call, you're likely just going to have to leave a message. If you're lucky enough to get someone, you're left on endless hold. If you're on hold at the end of the their work day at 3:56, they just hang up on you. I guess I'm just going to finish my assigned PT and not bother with a follow up despite still having problems. I'm going to have to ask my GP can get my rescuers transferred and get me in to see someone who I can actually make appts with. Dr Bhattacharya is great, assuming you can get to see him. Recommended by my primary care and glad I went. Knowledgeable and thorough. And personable.

This guy is a total waste of time. My wife is Stage 4 cancer and this doctor (I use the term lightly) was absolutely a waste of time to the point when she had a seizure and we went to the emergency room on a weekend and he admonished my wife for having the emergency people call to notify him because it was his weekend off.....we have left and went to a wonderful Neurologist in Monterey and have not heard a word from his office of whether they care or not we are still a patient and it has been over 6 months.

Doesn’t listen to his patients, & assumes he knows the problem without listening. Never recommending.

Dr Bhattacharya has always been very thorough and friendly towards me and my friend, and has been very patient. He is always very thorough and personable as well.

I would have given Joydip a lower rating, but he is pretty much on the bell curve of what I expect from doctors and their allotted 20 minutes with a patient. Like, diagnosing the problem without reviewing my health history. If he had, he would have seen I had a chronic disease that caused confusion, memory loss. I only knew this after I was cured and symptoms went away. It wasn't ADD. In the future he should at least pretend to listen to his patients. And care. And not be dismissive.

He was great! After months of looking for a explanation to my pain, Not only did Dr. Bhattacharya explain things but connected all the dots for everything else that was going wrong. thank you Doctor
