Dr. Joseph Mauro is the worst dentist that I've ever met. For couple of the times after my first visit, I booked an appointment with his staff and then they canceled my reservation soon after they gave me the appointment. The staff are rude and they prevent to respond me why the Dr. Mauro deny to visit me although I was in am emergency situation and I needed to remove a teeth that was broken in half and I had pain and inflation in my gum. It was the most disrespectful behavior that I have ever seen from a human being!!!

I had a tooth that was cracked at the gum line and put off the extraction for years. Dr. Mauro was understanding and helped through my concerns without judgment. The office staff were efficient and helpful. All staff there have a lot to do to keep the office running smoothly. I am grateful for the medical treatment and continue to heal my tooth socket and will put in an implant once it is ready and fully healed. It is easier to munch food with the tooth out than it was when I had it. I am grateful for Dr. Mauro and his staff. thank you!

I highly recommend Dr. Mauro for your oral surgery needs! From the first interaction with the front desk, the procedure, and after care, they are very professional, friendly, compassionate and truly care about you as a person. I wish I could remember everyone’s names because they were all great, but Natalie was so nice and also very transparent in what needed to be done, what my insurance covered, and there were no unexpected expenses! I also appreciated the after care video and care package. It’s very important to know how to care for yourself after the procedure so you don’t get a dry socket , etc . I could go on , but I definitely recommend Dr. Mauro! He is very kind, with a sense of humor and his chair side assistant calmed my anxiety with her humming. I wish I could remember her name. They call and check on you after your procedure to make sure you are healing and if you have any questions or concerns. I don’t usually write reviews, but I feel this office deserves it, so patients who have dental anxiety or reservations on who to call, I decided to write this review. I’m so glad I was referred to his office. If I ever need oral surgery in the future, I definitely will see Dr. Mauro!

Had to get my tooth extracted here. Everyone is very welcoming. The receptionist was very nice. All the employees were fantastic, great energy. The Dr, He was great. Made everything easy. I would definitely recommend here. Also, they checked on me the same day and the following day as well. No better place to go to if you need any extractions.

Dr. Mauro is an excellent oral surgeon

I'm so glad that when someone has a medical emergency they are more concerned with payment than helping. I understand insurance only pays so much but in an emergency you could worked something out. It's cool, infection and exposed nerve, I can handle than on my own right, SMH!

I got one wisdom tooth removed. I had been expecting it to be drawn out but it was very quick and almost painless. Very glad I came to this place.

Dr. Joseph Mauro is the BEST oral surgeon you could ever ask for. His office and clinical staff are the most competent, caring staff around. I wouldn't trust my family or myself with any other oral surgeon! He is not only extremely competent, he also has a caring bedside manner.

For more than two years I was supposed to get my teeth extracted but never did because I was petrified of the procedure. But I could no longer handle the discomfort from chewing on such ill-fated teeth any longer. I set up an appointment through a referral. Until the appointment I was nervous, I must admit, because of some unsavory reviews posted here. But I was pleasantly surprised; Dr. Mauro is an exceptionally competent man at his work. I was put under IV sedation and I do not remember a single moment when the teeth were pulled, but when I "woke up," the teeth had been successfully extracted. Naturally, there was some discomfort (soreness but not pain) from this (you can't just get teeth pulled and feel no reverberation effect whatsoever), but it was managed with the medications he gave me. Speaking of medications, he gave me the proper set of medications to bring home: ibuprofen, narcotic, an anti-nausea medication, and an antibiotic. I thought that was great. The hygienist was very nice too. Unfortunately there was only one staff member who didn't score well in hospitality points, but thankfully she was not in charge of helping me. I've seen some critical comments about Dr. Mauro and I have to say, he did not strike me in any of those ways. He appears to be a stoic man but he is polite. The second time I went for a follow-up he was rather mellow. I did not sense any repugnance at all. Anyway I just thought I'd give a review of my experience here. If I had known that the procedure would be that seamless, I never would have postponed getting my teeth pulled. I spent all those years chewing on bad teeth when I could have gotten it done in an hour without even knowing an hour had passed. I don’t think anyone could say they love having any kind of oral surgery but if you have to have work done I would highly recommend Dr. Mauro! I had an implant put in for a missing tooth and the whole experience went great. If anyone is considering an implant don’t hesitate! The whole process only took 10 or 15 minutes and I only had one day of slight discomfort. The staff are friendly and helpful. Dr. Mauro does a really fast and good painless job Ive been to him 2 different times and I would go again.

My husband got his wisdom teeth removed here. We arrived 30 minutes early as requested and were told to wait in the car until he was called in. After an hour passed he went in to check on what was going on and the receptionist just said it would be another half hour. No apology or anything. So that’s two hours before he even goes back. They also require whoever is driving to sit and wait the entire time. You’re not allowed to leave. This doctor clearly has no respect for anyone else’s time. Dr mauro saw my elderly mom as an emergency first time patient due to sore in her mouth. Receptionist girls were so nice and welcoming. Dr took one look at her mouth and knew it had to be biopsied immediately. He explained everything to us. As soon as results came in, he called immediately. He referred my mom to a specialist, called her oncologist and surgeon to update them as well on results. He truly went above and beyond for my mom. We are so appreciative for all He did and his wonderful staff. I would recommend him to anyone who needs an oral surgeon for anything.

The office staff was amazing and the Dr Mauro made my experience super painless and quick. Honestly don't think I could have had a better experience. So glad I went to this office I'd refer anyone here.

Wonderful Dentist and staff. They will make you feel very comfortable and relaxed. The procedure was quick and fast. I would recommend this oral surgeon to my friends and family.

My wife and friends has their wisdom teeth removed and Dr. Mauro was by far and away a much better experience that I have have witnessed. He did am amazing job.

Dr. Joseph Mauro and his assistant were AWESOME!!! I highly recommend!!!! The establishment was clean, smell fresh and inviting. The staff were nice and welcoming! If you ever need an abstract, please go there. Dr. Mauro is quick at what he do. He made my 10 year old comfortable and calming. Thanks Dr. Mauro and your crew????

Missed one appointment because of COVID 19 and was told they will no long accept me as a patient.

I’d give it less if I could. Arrived 20 minutes early for the appointment and have now waited well over an hour past scheduled appointment time. Seems like they don’t know how to manage time here at all. Will not be back here for anything.

Arrived 30 minutes early, as requested. When my appointment time came I noticed everyone in the waiting room being called before me. So they definitely overbook. After 1.5 hours waiting, they finally called me back. So they were 1.5 hours late. Be prepared to wait, and wait, and wait.

Fastest bone graft dental work, in and out in less than five minutes. no x rays after procedure, loath on verifying insurance coverage. lots of gum loss after procedure. Can not support an implant. There are better dentists out there. Get a second or third opinion after you see him.

Just got back on july 3rd 2020 got top and bottom impacted wisdom teeth removed with just local diddnt feel a thing besides the shot to numb me wich is expected was in and out in 20min i couldnt beleive it went 10x better than i expected i hope for a speedy recovery

I won’t lie, I was very nervous. I’m 25, a former cancer patient, and my oral health is wack. I had a really bad wisdom tooth that needed out along with 2 other molars it effected. I went in, they gave me some gas before they put me under. He was so sweet and so was all of the staff(nurses and office personnel). He called me sweetie before I passed out and it soothed me. Which for some reason worked lol. If I were to have any other issues I must see this guy. I won’t go back to local anesthetic for teeth that need surgically removed. It was far more easy no matter how goofy I was after. Amazing office, amazing dentist, 5 stars. 10/10 will let them knock me out again.

The receptionist staff at this office is outstandingly professional. I asked to be on a list of cancellations, and I was able to get in weeks earlier than my scheduled appointment. The nursing staff was excellent and were very reassuring. Dr. Mauro listened to my concerns, and I had a great pain free dental experience. My daughter appt was at noon she was getting wisdom teeth removed she hadnt ate since the night before because prep for oral surgery well they didnt get her back there til 3:30pm and we were leaving by 4pm. I had a frenectomy done there in 9-2015 and I was very pleased with service I received. From Dr. Mauro, to the dental assistants to the front desk staff, they all exceeded my expectations. I went back this month 4-2016 and had a gingivectomy done by Dr. Mauro as well. I was unfortunate enough to be involved in a motorcycle accident which led up to my visit and surgery with Dr Mauro. Even with my helmet on i managed to sustain several breaks and fractures in my jaw. The left side of my jaw to be exact, was completely shattered. The joint on the right side was severed completely. After much debate between family and drs, it was decided that Dr Mauro was going to be doing my Jaw surgery. As im writing this review, my accident was less than 3 months ago and my jaw is not only completely FIXED and healed, but i couldn't have asked for a better surgeon. Words cannot express my gratitude with how satisfied i am with the work and hospitality from that entire office. They were like family to me and i will miss them greatly! Thank you again! I went to the office in East Lansing off Lake Lansing Rd. I have anxiety over these appointments my tooth had broken 4 months ago I decided to pull part of it out( I don't recommend that lol) Dr Mauro and his assistant Angie seen I was terrified. We talked and laughed he gave me the shots to numb my jaw..I never felt the shots! both of them stayed in the room with me and continued talking with me to help me calm down, about 3 minutes went by Dr. Mauro said let's take a look and no joke he had to even drill a little I had stitches I felt NOTHING AND he was done start to finish in about 5 minutes amazing Dr. And awesome assistant Angie. Dr. Mauro definitely came in to save the day for me! I was getting my wisdom teeth removed by my general dentist located in Okemos. I was numbed and he was about to start working when he got a call that his wife was in labor! Dr. Mauro scheduled me right away and I was at his office within 3 hours. Despite the last minute appointment, I was called back almost immediately when I got there. I was actually able to get all wisdom teeth removed because he had actual sedation, so I was very happy about how it turned out. Dr. Mauro may be a bit gruff, but he is incredibly skilled. I had all four of my wisdom teeth out without IV sedation (by my own choice), and I was extremely impressed with the speed and skill with which he and his assistant worked. I felt no pain after the numbing shots, and it can't have taken more than 8 minutes from start to finish. The office staff are all very friendly, and were able to answer all of my questions. I was worried about an extraction site which turned out to be completely fine, but even so they got me in last minute to have a look and treated all of my concerns as completely valid. That whole place and staff were nothing but rude high mantance jerks. But I had no pain going through getting 5 teeth pulled. Now I'm in a world of hurt today. A week later and still in pain. But don't have a dry socket or infection so not sure what's going on.

Excellent. Dr is very skilled and knowledgeable. I'm glad to have Mauro as my doctor.

Dr. Mauro's treatment of my dental work and that of my son was outstanding! His staff were very pleasant and extremely caring and knowledgeable. I highly recommend Dr. Mauro for all surgical oral procedures.

Dr. Mauro is an amazing oral surgon. He made sure I was comfortable. He was professional and kind. I felt no pain what so ever and I slept comfortably through out my wisdom teeth extraction. He made sure I had pain and anti nausea medication to go home with. The office has a wonderful staff! Dr. Mauro is very skilled.

The dentist is a jerk, he made my husband who has never had to rely on pain killers for a surgery (because he had never hurt too much) feel ASHAMED for taking pain killers for his four wisdom teeth. He even got to the point where he refused to take anything for pain because he didn't want to be considered a druggie! He was miserable, and the dentist had no compassion at all. I had 3 wisdom teeth extracted and choose only local numbing agents. Needless to say, I was nervous going in, but Dr. Mauro and his wonderful staff made me feel at ease! He was blatantly racist,did not care for the patient, prescribed pain killers that were wrong ( and he knew about it when we called) and then accused us of trying to get some more from him when we told him we cant even use the ones he gave. When we insisted on ANY kind of help, he just stopped responding. Never got a call back after the surgeries, never got callbacks about how we were doing,he did absolutely nothing to show he cares after pulling your teeth out. The staff however is the complete opposite, they were nice,courteous helpful people as opposed to the doctor himself. If you are not white don't bother coming here, have your dentist refer you to someone else. This office should be ashamed of themselves and how they treat their patients. The way my sister was talked to and treated was appalling. This was a patient not a customer. Shame on you.

I had 2 impacted wisdom teeth that have been trying to come in for 10 years. My dentist kept referring me to get them out but I was terrified and so I kept putting it off. Eventually, I decided it was better to get it over with than continue having issues every few months. I called to set up an appointment with Dr. Mauro (I found him through my insurance) and the lady who answered the phone seemed nice enough. I though it was weird that she wanted to schedule me for my consultation and surgery back to back but I went with it. She had an opening that same week and a couple more in the following weeks. I was still nervous so I put it off about 2 weeks. FF to Day of appointment, I get there and realize they have a dog in the office which threw me completely off. The front desk staff seemed pretty nice and got me all set up with papers. I asked if they had gotten any records from my dentist and they said no... I thought that was weird but I don't know if it's even necessary. I was called back to do my panoramic x-Ray and was immediately whisked away into a room to be prepared for surgery. Now, I had done my research on Dr. Mauro and knew that he had been called "rude" and "abrasive" so I was prepared to kind of proceed with caution. I was really nervous and I know I can get on Drs nerves with all of my questions. He came into the room to go over the x-Ray and explained that I only had 2 wisdoms on the bottom (I knew that and thank goodness) and that they were bone impacted (did not know that). I asked how long he thought It would take to get them out and he said 20min total but that he would have to drill some bone. He also explained that one was sitting right on a nerve and my chance for nerve damage was 15%. I told him I wanted lidocaine only but that I get nervous with it (makes my heart race) and he offered something called carbocain which is apparently lidocaine without the epinephrine. I declined (didn't want to try something new on such a scary day). He put me in the next room and put some numbing gel on my gums and gave me the lidocaine shots - kind of abrasively. My dentist is very gentle with this part so that was a little scary for me. I asked to listen to headphones, he Obliged. He went right in and did his thing and had both teeth out in under 10 minutes. It was SO easy and pain free. By the time the lidocaine started wearing off, I could feel a stitch poking me and so when the office called to check on me, I told her and she had me come back up there so they could fix it. No problem. There were a few times where he was kind of snippy and abrasive... I guess, just don't take it too personally cause he seems to know his stuff and having someone competent for this type of thing is better than having someone with a personality. In conclusion, I will say that he isn't the most gentle, sympathetic, or personable guy, but he did a damn good job. He did tell me as he was finishing up that I don't have any sockets, he's stitching them up so I wouldn't have to worry about dry socket... I looked it up and it says you could still get dry sockets with stitches so I don't know... I had this procedure done about 3 days ago and am ok. Ice on 20 min, Ice off 20 min for the first day. I only took 2 reg strentgth Tylenol twice on the first day. No pain meds since (I have a high pain tolerance and while my mouth is uncomfortable, not so much so that requires meds) I will say that he offered to prescribe a pain med but I declined. I'm also taking amoxicillin 50mg 3x day to prevent infection (normally I wouldn't but again, get have a dog in the office)... I didn't swell terrible but one side was definitely worse than the other and the swelling truly does get worse before it gets better. So far so good though and the procedure itself was a breeze!! I recently had all 4 of my wisdom teeth extracted by Dr. Mauro and would not hesitate to recommend him to anyone. He was very professional and did not hesitate to answer my questions. I was quite nervous because I have never had any surgeries/procedures before and Dr. Mauro really put me at ease. I recently took my 2 daughters to have their wisdom teeth removed. We had a very pleasant experience overall, highly recommend. We were in & out within an hour or less. We received post procedural instructions which were easy to follow, A care package with items needed, gauze, ice packs etc. Everyone was very kind and professional. A nurse called before closing as well as the following day just to make sure all was well. Thank you very much Dr. Mauro and your confident staff, much appreciated. We have a son that has autism who is 28 years old. He had only one cavity in his life, but needed wisdom teeth extracted. Dr. Mauro was fabulous with Anthony from the minute they met! Anthony was completely calm as we went into the procedure, and remained that way throughout! I (his mother) was a different story! Dr. Mauro had to spend more time with me, easing my worries, and taking on this mission for us. We will be forever grateful for Dr. Mauro's professionalism, and for his expertise, but most of all what a wonderful man he is! I got my wisdom teeth out today by Dr. Mauro. I would definitely recommend him to anyone. He was very kind, friendly, compassionate, and fast! The procedure took less than 5 minutes! Angie was also extremely friendly and helpful. She thoroughly explained everything to me. If anyone is scared to get their wisdom teeth out, don't be. It was such a breeze!
