Dr. Jose Enrique Barrera

I am 1 week post op and have nothing but great things to say about Dr. Barrera and his team! Everyone is very friendly and knowledgeable and made me feel as comfortable as possible for my rhinoplasty. The recovery was seamless, and I couldn’t believe how little pain/discomfort I was in. Will definitely recommend to anyone looking for a rhinoplasty in SATX!

I just looked be Dr Barrera. He is always working towards the best possible outcomes. Samantha the esthetician is wonderful. She really cares and takes her time with great services and education. She goes over and above- very forthright on everything. They really keep your goal in mind. There is nothing better than great skin!

I am 5 weeks post op from a septorhinoplasty andI very happy with my results! I came across Dr Barrera online by chance and after looking at gallery pictures I was super impressed by the natural results he gives his patients. I booked a consultation , had surgery and have had 2 follow ups and everything has gone very smoothly . I have had such a wonderful experience that I wish I would’ve done this sooner . I highly recommend Dr Barrera to anyone looking to get a rhinoplasty !

Results were obvious front view asymmetry with an obvious depression on one side of nose bridge, excessive bridge removal from one side, and my breathing problems continue. Very costly procedure and the results aren't what I was hoping for. I was not looking for perfect symmetry, just enough that my asymmetry isnt so easily noticeable, but when asymmetry was mentioned to doctor, he made claims like it was one of his best works, my nose is perfect, and he cant make it any straighter. Meanwhile Ive seen pictures online with much better results for noses similar to mine. instead of listening to my concerns, he insisted I should see a mental specialists. On top of that, my procedure time was postponed an hour, plus I had to wait while they took their lunch break before my procedure began. Results could have been much better, and I am disappointed.

It’s been over a year since my rhinoplasty. Followed all directions during recovery, went to all my follow up apts. Nose is crooked. Nostrils uneven. Side profiles are completely different on each side of my face. Definitely regret going to him. Now I have to find a doctor to fix his mistakes and go through recovery all over again. Waste of $10k. When I told him, at a follow up, my concerns his response was, “Well your nose was crooked before”. (It was not this crooked) There was an awkward silence at which point he added, “I don’t guarantee perfection”. —— I’m not asking for perfection, but didn’t I pay you to fix my crooked nose if that’s what you say it was? I also remember during the consult he asked if I wanted my nose to be a straight profile or the tip to turn up. I told him I wasn’t sure and hadn’t thought too much about that aspect. I expected him to guide me through a decision but instead one side of my nose turns up and the other is completely straight. Best of both worlds, I guess? I searched long and wide across all platforms for the best doctor with the best reviews and came across Dr. Barrera. I don’t understand how I’m one of the only noses he decided to mess up. I feel like I may as well went to a discount doctor and I would have gotten then same result. Absolutely makes me sick to my stomach.

Dr. Barrera did an AMAZING job on my rhino/septo plasty!!!!! I couldn’t be happier with my results! My nose has never looked better! He is such a kind doctor and really listens to your wants/needs. 10/10 recommend!

I went to see Dr. Jose Barrera to be evaluated for Inspire. I was found to be a good candidate for the implant so proceeded with the surgery. Dr. Barrera and his office were so great in getting everything scheduled and pre auth with my insurance. I had the surgery and it has changed my life. No more CPAP. I went from 54 episodes of apnea an hour to zero. My scar is barely visible. I am very pleased with these results

Dr. Barrera removed a lymphoma that was embedded in my facial nerve. This was a complex surgery because there was risk of permanent damage to the nerve. He did amazing work. I look much better and retained function of my facial muscles. I even look more youthful. He and his staff are empathetic and caring. They go above and beyond to take care of patients, whether doing surgery or dealing with insurance issues. I am so grateful to have found this doctor and his team!

Got the tear trough filler by the doctors recommendation, not what i actually needed to fix my problem so a big waist of my money. Doctors should be more honest this days

This was a big deal for me, financially. At 3 months post-op, I’m pleased with the results. I feel like ME again! Dr. Barrera is great, his team is friendly and knowledgeable. Two reasons I withheld a star and they may not be a concern for anyone else, but are significant to me. First, this is a huge financial investment and I followed their recommendations to the letter. I purchased the “kit” containing “all the items needed following surgery”; it does not contain the items in the amounts necessary so I purchased more. The added cost was at least $300 extra— above the price of surgery and the “kit”. Then, the day of my procedure I was informed that I had to provide my own products to be applied by the surgical team following the procedure. I hadn’t brought anything with me, I was honestly surprised and extremely disappointed that the post op dressings weren’t included in the fees. Luckily, I had my debit card with me and purchased more products prior to surgery. I should not have NEEDED to purchase even MORE products. I’ve undergone many, many surgeries and have NEVER supplied my own postoperative dressing before being sent home. Second, and again, maybe not a big deal to others but it’s big to me. I was both excited and nervous for my surgery. I received a wonderfully reassuring email from an employee the day prior to surgery, assuring me that she personally would be waiting for me to arrive and help me feel relaxed and ready. When I arrived exactly at my appointment time, there was nobody in the office. I waited a few minutes, then called the office phone number and was connected with the answering service. I explained to the service that I was scheduled for surgery with Dr. Barrera and instructed (at the pre-op appointment and in the email) to arrive at that specific time, but that the office was closed. The person on the phone assured me that their information indicated Dr. (Sorry, can’t remember the name—it was not Barrera and I hadn’t MET any other) was scheduled to be there. I was a bit panic stricken. The other doctor arrived a few minutes later and let me in. My email escort was a no-show. I will add that the doctor who arrived apologized that things did not go as planned. It was not his error, he was not the individual who emailed me. It would have been wonderful to have the person committed to be waiting for me, yet didn’t even show up, to address me directly with explanation and apology. I’ve had three follow-up appointments since that day and there’s not even acknowledgement. The bottom line is, to ME even elective, cosmetic procedures are somewhat unsettling. My desire and excitement for this surgery was 100% but not without a touch of apprehension. It’s my FACE. The office is beautiful, the staff is friendly and Dr. Barrera is amazing at his specialty. There are still a few things this team needs to improve upon, sadly my personal experience leaves me feeling ignored, just given platitudes designed to placate me, even at today’s visit. *I had to update my review when I read the reply from the office. Very tempting to revise the star rating, however the purpose of my review is simply to let others know what they may experience.

Dr. Barrera did surgery on my nose after a bad nose fracture, to get me back to normal looking. Love my nose now I used to suffer from migraine heaches since I was little. After my surgery I haven't had any more migraines is just an anduve feeling. Thank you Doctor and staff.

I am 70 years old and have been wanting and needing a face lift for a long time. It’s so hard finding a doctor you can trust with your face. I ran in to a friend that looked fabulous so I took her route and chose Dr Jose Barrera. I had a big wedding to attend 2 weeks after surgery. I made a plan to attend and wear a mask. Didn’t have to. I had no bruising at all, not even the next day. I had some swelling but that really subsided in almost 10 days. My neck rolls are gone. 3 Months Post-Op: Septorhinoplasty After being post-op for 3 months I can say I’m beyond happy that I chose Dr. Barrera as my surgeon. The results are amazing despite the fact it isn’t final yet. As rhinoplasty results aren’t final until 9-12 months. Before, I consulted with Dr. Jose Barrera I consulted with other San Antonio surgeons. Some surgeons charged less, some more. His quote was somewhere in the middle. However, given his expertise it’s by far the best value. Saying I’m impressed is an understatement. I am a collegiate softball player who was pitching and endured a Zygomatic fracture to the face after a line drive during a softball game. After the hospital visit that Saturday, we were left with the decision of finding the best plastic surgeon. Dr. Jose Barrera was the doctor referred to and honestly the best decision ever. Dr. Barrera and Dr. Goldfarb along with Jennifer and the entire staff were extremely welcoming, comforting and extremely reassuring about the surgery and the entire healing process. After two failed chin implants, I was ver discouraged on what to do next. I met with Dr.Jose Barrera and he recommended a genioplasty. One year later I cannot be more pleased with the outcome. Dr. Barrera is awesome. He did a great job with my deep plane facelift, eyelid surgery, fat transfer to my eyelids and laser. I’m very happy and satisfied with my surgery.

I did plenty of research looking for a doctor that could help me with my severely deviated septum and little droop on the tip of my nose. After searching for about a year I found Dr. Barrera and I’m SO glad that I did! Not only was he able to correct those issues but I never realized just how crooked my nose was! The whole office staff is so friendly and made the experience so much more comfortable. Dr. Barrera is so patient and willing to answer any and all questions. I never feel rushed and that is a major plus. It’s very rare to find a doctor that actually sits down and explains every detail of the procedure and all the options available. I am extremely happy with my results and I’m only a month post op. I was very nervous about making a change to my face but he made me feel so comfortable and explained everything in a way I could actually understand. The result is so natural that nobody would ever know I had a little tweak done. I didn’t want to take any chances, on such a big decision! I did my research and Dr. Barrera had the experience, that made me feel very comfortable. I would give this office 10 stars if I could. Dr. Barrera and Dr. G are absolutely amazing. The office staff, esthetician’s and office manager Jennifer are so kind and have felt like a family to me, greeting me with the warmest welcome every time I come in! I had a pretty complex surgery on my nose with Dr. Barrera, we did so many things on the medical side and we did the cosmetic as well. Recovery was so easy I had no pain (didn’t have any narcotics), swelling on day 3-5 which is to be expected and the 3rd day is the worst day, and almost no bruising. I got my cast removed today and I’m a week post op. I was almost brought to tears when I first saw my perfect new nose. He listened to everything I wanted and far exceeded my expectations. After seeing all the reviews for Dr. Barrera, I decided to book my consultation. After waiting for 40 minutes after my scheduled appointment time, I saw Dr. Barrera for maybe 5-8 minutes in which I had a couple questions to ask over the procedure I was interested in. I felt as if his responses were lacking and to him I was just another number coming on in. I was looking forward to booking this procedure but I will keep looking elsewhere. EDIT: Dr. Barrera's staff, Jennifer, only agreed to refund me my consultation fee IF I deleted my review. All in which I only stated my personal experience. Very shady and I don't appreciate that at all. First impressions are everything Dr. Barrera. I went to Dr. Barrera to have my subaceous hyperplasia removed from my face. I explained to Dr. Barrera that I wanted a Co2 laser procedure. He performed the procedure and NONE of my lesions were removed. None! I think what he did was do a skin resurfacing procedure. Just guessing on that. Regardless, it was a complete waste of A LOT of money. He totally did not listen to what I wanted done. He gets 2 stars for being a nice guy with a nice staff. I can’t tell you how much I love this office. The ladies are awesome and Dr. Barrera is the best. He really listens to your wants, needs and expectations. Then explains the whole procedure to you so you know exactly what to expect. I went in for a rhino-septoplasty four months ago and love my results. I was always insecure of the length and size of my nose and now my confidence is much higher. I expected a lot of pain and swelling, but after the surgery and on, i had very minimal pain. I was shocked. I also had high anxiety going into the procedure and they helped calm my nerves. I had a great experience with Dr. Barrera for my genioplasty chin surgery! For my first consultation they were able to get me in quickly. From there I was very happy with the whole process, I received all the information I needed about the surgery— what would happen, how much he could do, any questions I had were answered. After the surgery I received a lot of support and reassurance about the various temporary side effects (swelling, numbness), which were all gone by about 6 months. I’ve had lip filler and dysport with Dr. Barrera before but yesterday I finally tried under eye and cheek filler. I’m a tad sore but I have very minimal swelling and no bruising. I initially wanted more filler under the eyes but Dr. Barrera suggested we start with just a little bit. I’m glad I listened to him because the results look so natural which is what I was going for. It hasn’t even been 24hrs and I’m already so happy with his work. Dr. Barrera is the only person I will trust with my face!

This was my first time getting a surgery ever but Dr Barerra and his team were very comforting and made the whole process very easy. I’m a 53 year old woman who decided last January to have rhinoplasty done. I have always been unhappy with the shape of my nose. What I didn’t realize was how it affected my breathing and headaches. When I slept, I felt my nose was being pinched because I lacked the cartilage to keep my nostrils from collapsing. After two months of my surgery, I was breathing and sleeping better. The most dramatic difference I have felt is the frequency and type of headaches I have. They decreased from a daily occurrence to a few times a month; and I no longer require prescription medication for the type of headaches I get. I am also happier with look of my nose, it no longer droops when I smile and it fits my face. My only regret is I didn’t see Dr. Barrera sooner. Dr. Barrera and his team are amazing! Earlier this year, I decided to move forward with my plans for a rhinoplasty. I had a consultation with another surgeon and didn't feel confident with what I saw/heard and started getting nervous. I had my second consultation with Dr. Barrera and knew instantly I wanted him to do my surgery. Everyone in the office is so nice and professional - honorable mentions for Jennifer and Dr. Lujan!! They were so kind, knowledgeable, and helpful. And Dr. Barrera really listened to my concerns and took time to explain his method and what my options were. I bombarded him with questions and concerns and he thoughtfully addressed each one and put my mind at ease. After my consultation, I felt 100% comfortable moving forward. They were able to schedule me quickly and when surgery day came and I was freaking out, everyone I met with (even including my nurse and anesthesiologist) empathized and took time to talk me through it. My recovery was fairly easy and it helped that Dr. Barrera and Dr. Lujan gave very clear aftercare instructions and set expectations about my recovery timeline. My oldest daughter had both a septoplasty and a rhinoplasty performed by Dr. Barrera on June 15, 2021 . We took a long time and researched so many doctors and their credentials in South East Texas before scheduling a consultation with a few. The 2nd one was Dr. Barrera. The consultation went extremely well and my daughter really connected with Dr. Barrera. The office staff is also extremely kind, professional, attentive and very responsive to your needs and questions. Surgery was scheduled immediately and the onsite facilities were top of the line, everything was on schedule and as explained from the time of check-in to the pick up and the prescribed medications for recovery. Nurses were the best. Follow up appointments went really well, and we are all impressed with the results. Not only is Dr. Barrera a great surgeon with impeccable technical skills, he also has a very "artistic" eye and extensive experience with all the required credentials and professional affiliations. This was my first time going under anesthesia. The surgery didn’t take very long and I never felt any pain. Recovery was easy and manageable. When I was at home I never felt pain. Like the other bad reviews, mine is similar. The front desk did not return voicemails, when I had to paid the deposit the receptionist kept forgetting my information, and explained that the deposit was for any quick solution or procedure versus something time consuming. At the appointment the doctor examined me for less than 5 minutes, told me that he was going to have his assistant take photos and provide a quote. I got a quote and that’s it. I was told if I wanted to check if my insurance will cover some of the costs I would have to book another appointment for that. Which was questionable since there was no one there waiting. A week later I called again and asked for my deposit back since I was just looked at and nothing else. Got transferred to the financial consultant and I asked why I couldn’t get my deposit back? She explained that I got a quote and was seen by the doctor so that’s what the $75 dollars were for. I asked, “but the doc said he needed pictures as well so why can’t I just at least get half of my deposit back?” Her response was sarcastic, “we can take pictures of you if you want .” She was also laughing in the background when I was trying to make point on how shes was contradicting herself. It was insane they was customer service the consultant had. She started laughing at me when I told her I should’ve known from the beginning not to go this office.
