Dr Essers is fantastic! It's sometimes easier for a specialist to push a case back to other doctors when (s)he doesn't believe the symptoms fit his/her area of expertise, but Dr Essers has gone above and beyond to hang in there with us while we work to solve this health mystery.

We are very blessed to have found Dr. Essers. His expertise has helped to make our son's condition better and we are continuing to work on getting his EOE under control.

Dr. Essers and his team I've been great to work with over thevyears. Professional, knowledgeable and personable.

Dr. Essers is the best. So knowledgeable, kind, and really listens. Only complaint is that it's hard to get an appointment, even for my daughter's more urgent/emerging issues.

I feel that it's very common now days to have health concerns brushed off by providers and you can feel very unheard. The doctor looked at my child and her records as an individual case and addressed my concerns and we talked about follow care. We were not cared for as if every case he sees is the same and I was so impressed by this. It was really nice to feel like the doctor cared and understood her medical history. I wish there where more doctors like him.

He was wonderful and gave us options we have never heard of that other doctors never offered

He is amazing! Traveled from idaho and he helped our girl so much! She is a completely different child! The amount of time and knowledge he has is absolutely better when no one would she her because she was so complex he just jumped right in and help! I couldn’t have asked for a better experience!!

It felt like visiting family every time I went in for anything. You were also very helpful with the transition after I got too old for the pediatric care. I couldn’t have asked for a better time. My two children have been patients for Dr. Essers for four years. We were initially referred to his practice from our pediatrician who highly recommended him. I was an employee as well for a major tech employer in the area, and when posting on one of the parent's board the recommendations I received were as well for Dr. Essers. With my children being diagnosed with GI diseases at young ages, it isn't an easy path for a parent to go down. He has always been patient with us as we try to understand the nuances of their disease. He is so responsive that when our son's disease wasn't in remission that both he and his partner in the practice were always there for our late night/weekend phone calls. The children tend to dread doctor's office visits due to the pokes but they do lighten up with their semi-annual check -ups with Dr. Essers since he demonstrates a true compassion for children. With our youngest child, his IBD diagnosis came very early. Although, Dr. Essers was confident in his approach he realized that my husband and I needed a second (and in our case a third opinion) before committing on an approach. We found it refreshing that he encouraged us to seek out these opinions and recommended experts to consult. He has a strong network within the GI field and we are always aware of the latest trials and experiments they are running (he trained at Boston Children's which is ranked #1 in some lists for pediatric GI diseases). Doctor Essers is the doctor you dream of ! 1. Empathy: He takes care of our son with multiple special needs with not only expert treatment and advice but also with empathy.Recently my son actually went to a camp because of him. At the camp I noticed that he truly looks at the whole human and not just their disease 2. Expertise: He is highly data oriented as well as modern- he is always aware of or interested in learning about new techniques. Also he is truly passionate about the field 3. Leadership: Because of him and the culture he creates in his team , our kiddo actually looks forward to his hospital visits instead of dreading them. I was diagnosed with UC during my junior year of high school and was lucky enough to find Dr. Essers as a gastroenterologist. Dr. Essers embodies every trait a patient with IBD would want in a gastroenterologist. He is incredibly knowledgeable in the field and really knows how to connect with his patients. One of my favorite things about Dr. Essers was his ability to treat me not like a patient, but as a friend. Doctor appointments regarding inflammatory bowel disease can be extremely stressful, especially when it comes to making crucial decisions like which treatment plan to follow and when to switch treatment plans to something different. I could not be more grateful for the way Dr. Essers handled these doctor appointments as I never felt like I was uninformed or had to make a decision alone. He always had a clear understanding of what was going on, and would make sure I would walk out of the appointment comfortable with the decisions that have been made. I was a patient for Dr. Essers for approximately 5 years since I was diagnosed. He's always been helpful and he's a great personality to have in the room with patients. Dr. Essers has helped me more than I could possibly thank him for, and I couldn't recommend a better doctor for anyone's child.

After my first appointment with Dr. Essers, I remember turning to my mom and saying, "he is by far the best doctor I have ever seen". Dr. Essers speaks in such a clear and digestible manor, ensuring both the child and the parents are thoroughly informed and that no one is, or feels ignored. Dr. Essers makes everyone feel heard, but most importantly, safe and comfortable. There is no doubt he is extremely genuine and passionate about his work and the children he helps. Dr. Essers has helped improve the quality of my life through helping me shift my understanding and outlook on the relationship between the mind, body, and food, which has dramatically increased my confidence and overall well-being. After a long search, we finally found a someone who understands our son (and us!). Dr. Essers is so calm, focused, and caring. And the staff in his office is really responsive and easy to work with.

Dr. Essers is patient and listens really well. He treated my daughter with respect even though she can be hard to warm up to. We are so lucky we found him.

Dr. Essers is warm, friendly and great at listening to the patient (or patient's mother in this case). He acknowledged our baby's issues, listened to us and asked lots of great questions, and helped get our baby back to being his happy self! I would highly recommend. We got there early to fill out paperwork, were called back before our appointment time and saw the doctor before our appointment time too! Nothing like not having to wait with a cranky baby! Thank you!

Dr. Essers is the best! He explains things in an easy to understand method. He takes time to answer your questions. He makes sure your child is on the right medication. We travel over an hour to see him. Highly recommend him!

Dr Essers has taken such good care of our daughter. He is a great listener, treats her with respect, and in an age appropriate way make sure sure her questions are answered. His staff is lovely to work with, especially his nurse who returns calls very quickly.

Dr. Essers and his staff were very professional and kind. The doctor spent a long time with us and walked us through his thinking and his proposed treatment options. We have been to a lot of specialists for my child's care and he is one of the best we have found in Seattle. Most importantly, my child is getting better!

We are happy to be in the care of Dr. Essers. We can finally get to the bottom of my 5 year old sons stomach issues. It was frustrating going to our pediatric Dr, an urgent care clinic and 3 Emergency visits (all in 3 weeks time) , just to find no answers to my son's stomach pain. Glad we found Dr. Essers and What a relief knowing my son will be on the road to recovery soon!

Really caring doctor. Staff was great.

Unprofessional and uncaring to his patients and their families. Spends to much time ordering unessesary expensive test. Waste of time, we should have gotten a second opinion sooner- the doc we received a 2nd opinion from knew and treated the issue from the first visit! No unnessary testing and this doctor was knowledgable, caring, and committed - the total opposite of J Essers. We should have listen to another Swedish pediatric specialist who told us to find someone better as she didn't trust

We thought the practice was organized and well run. The staff got us in and out in relatively short order. Dr. Essers was very nice and spent a good deal of time with us and made sure we understood the treatment options.

Dr. Essers is very knowledgeable and personable. He talked directly with my daughter even though she was young and made her feel very comfortable. The staff was excellent and returned our phone calls on time.

Dr. Essers was great. He was great at explaining. I went under for an endoscopy as he was great at explaining and easy and did not have any discomfort he has done everything in his power to help me find a diagnosis.
