A family member was diagnosed with a tumor at a regional hospital in Northern Virginia more than 10 years ago. The local generalized neurosurgeons wanted to take it out then and there — they said they could probably “sense” the edges of the tumor by instinct (!) — but fortunately we had an oncologist friend who knew better. She asked around and learned that Dr. Weingart was the doctor who other oncologists would prefer to send their own family member to if it came to that. He is one of a handful of the best of the best in the country, and certainly the best in the mid-Atlantic. Johns Hopkins has all the latest tech for marking and identifying tumor tissue during surgery. We’re approaching 11 years out now. The tumor was Grade III cancerous, but Dr. Weingart valiantly “chased it to the margins.” Some patients here have complained of poor bureaucratic organization post-op, and that might be true. It’s best to plan out ahead of time which neurologist you’ll see, ideally someone closer to home if you don’t live in the Baltimore area. If you have time, ideally you might even consult with your local neurologist before surgery. If it turns out that you have cancerous tissue, you’ll probably eventually need a neuro-oncologist and a radiation oncologist as well. Dr. Weingart's surgery is admirable and exceptional. One year ago (May 5th, 2021), he saved my son and my family. Always I appreciate it.

Dr. Weingart treated me as a person, not just a patient. He kept me and my family very informed of what was happening the whole time I was in the hospital.

Rather disappointed with the manner and timeliness of this office. We have been battling to get appointments since March. My boyfriend has been in serious pain since surgery and has developed seizures and still cannot get anyone to return our call. Worst post op situation I have ever dealt with. No communication whatsoever. Quick to get you in there and bill your insurance. After that, they forget about you. Very poor service.

Dr. Weingart is a great doctor. He removed my brain tumor 21 years ago. Now, I am working for 15 years as a consultant. I am glad I went to John Hopkins. It's one of the best. :-)

Dr. Weingart is an amazing combination of science and humanity. He removed a cancerous lesion from my brain and pre-op care, surgery and post-op experiences were/continue to be simply phenomenal. Highly recommend.

I can not say enough good about this man. Had a schwannoma (brain tumor) removed by him and could not have asked for a smoother experience or nicer dr. Very caring and easy to talk to, extremely knowledgeable and professional. Going back in a couple months for another craniotomy and I'm actually looking forward to it. It's a 1200 mile round trip for me to get to him, but I wouldn't want anyone else inside my head and he is more than worth the trip.

Not good told two days after surgery that Dr Weingarten didn't like the way my neck is healing. 8 months I returned to hospital paralyzed both arms. Put in Miami j collar had MRI done for Dr review. Called way too many times no reply. 4 years of rehabilitation and still in intense pain with frequent loss of use of arms hands and fingers. Very frustrating. Rehabilitation director is the only one who has been involved with my recovery but not happy about the inability to do anything to help in improving the problem. Thanks Eric Savoy

Removed an ependymoma for me 22 years ago.

Dr.Weingart is a highly skilled neurosurgeon,I feel best to have found him.I have been struggling for months,felt almost grounded for as long as I can remember.Im two weeks post-op I'm walking without pain I know I have a long way to go .But Dr Weingart saw me 10days out,I see him again on 1/29/19, hope I can exercise and play drums.Thank you Dr.Weingart for being a wonderful person but also and amazing surgeon....Thanks..Good Bless Dr.Weingart is a highly skilled neurosurgeon,I feel best to have found him.I have been struggling for months,felt almost grounded for as long as I can remember.Im two weeks post-op I'm walking without pain I know I have a long way to go … More

The absolute best Dr around!!!! I had originally went to Dr.Eisnenberg. And so glad i decided to get a second opinion. At my consultation with Dr.Eisnenberg it was as if i was at the emmys instead of a Dr office. He comes waltzing in like he's walking the red carpet with his personal nurse and secretary..im so unimpressed!!! He then proceeds to tell me that this is how we are going to do this and that's that...ummmm so where is my say in my care??? He also claims that the MRI IS NOT CLEAR ENOUGH FOR HIM TO TELL IF THERE IS ARTERIES SURROUNDING THE TUMOR SO BECAUSE OF THIS. HE WILL HAVE TO CUT MY WHOLE HEAD OPEN. I don't agree with this..im not a Dr. But this seems so unnecessary....so i leave the office having second thoughts..and the day before surgery im freaking out and feeling if i go with him i will not make it out alive!!! So i decided right then to get a second opinion..i went to John Hopkins and met with Dr.weingart...Best decision ever...He talked to me like i was a human being with a problem...and was interested in what i thought and had to say in regards to my care...he also stated that the Mri showed that there was a mass of arteries surrounding the tumor...in which Dr.Eisnberg said he couldn't see.. Well that's strike number one. ..Dr. Weingart was able to do the surgery in the exact way that Dr. Eisnberg said could not be done!!! My advice stay away from Eisenberg!!!!!! This Doctor is wonderful!!! We visited UVA and Hopkins, after meeting Dr Weingart, their was no question who we were going with!!!! It has been well over 10 years!! He may not remember us, but we will always remember him❤️

Dr. Jon Weingart is a tremendously talented Neurosurgeon at one of America's top hospitals. I had the good fortune to have him remove a meningioma from my brain 15 years ago, and am thankful to have had him as my surgeon. I trust him impeccably. I have to travel far to see him, but for such important functions as neurosurgery, it is important to seek out the best in the field. He is a very pleasant and easy to communicate with person, blessed with an amazing mind and miracle working hands. Thank you for all you do Dr. Weingart.
