Both my sibling and I saw this doctor many years ago. He told me at my intake visit that I was malingering and that it was literally impossible for a person who had been in graduate school to later become disabled by mental illness. He also saw my sibling who had a different surname and tried to have him involuntarily committed even though my sibling was voluntarily there for treatment. The situation was grave, and I see how a reasonable psychiatrist would make that decision. The county didn't agree, and my sibling said the doctor was literally crying because he was unable to commit my sibling. (The county knew both me and my sibling very well through voluntary case management so in this case, there was no reason for a commitment). My sibling thought this doctor was emotionally unstable. He caused both of us a lot of stress for a long time. My sibling was afraid of involuntary commitment the rest of their life and I'm still anxious of not being believed and told I am faking for money. I suspect he may like to bully people, and psychiatric patients are relatively powerless. Don't let this guy undermine your recovery.
