Dr Essepian is an outstanding surgeon…he is highly skilled and has a great support staff. I am very pleased with the wonderful results of the care I received.

I had a wonderful experience with Dr. Essepian and the Northern Virginia Eye Surgery Center. Dr. Essepian is a wonderful surgeon, and the staff was helpful and kind. They ensured I had a smooth prep, and surgery. The pre and post nurse could not have been better. I am so glad I chose Dr. Essepian and would highly recommend him to anyone.

I am very grateful to have found Dr. Essepian’s practice. I had a very good experience having cataract surgery in both eyes. Dr. Essepian was competent, friendly, respectful and answered all of my question’s graciously. He was was reassuring without ever being condescending. My vision is fully restored and I suffered very little discomfort. I am so grateful! The staff at Dr. Essepian’s offices were knowledgeable, responsive and helpful, and the nurses at the surgery center were very professional, and kind. They took their time explaining the procedures and making sure I was comfortable every step of the way. I cannot recommend this practice enough!

My experience with Dr. Essepian and the staff at Eye Physicians and Surgeons was excellent. Not only did Dr. Essepian perform a complete and competent exam, he did so in a manner that was professional and caring while providing clear explanations. In addition, the entire staff was very efficient and attentive, especially the woman who performed the preliminary assessment before I saw Dr. Essepian. I can’t recall her name but she had magenta highlighted hair. I would recommend this office for routine ophthalmologic care as well as for patients with chronic or acute problems.

I’ve recently had my second cataract surgery with Dr Essepian. My situation is not typical. I have Fuchs disease, which is a corneal disease that adds a layer of concern when removing cataracts. Dr. Essepian has the expertise and skill with Fuchs that gave me the confidence I needed to have the surgery. Dr. Essepian has been my eye surgeon for over 8 years. So glad I found him because I believe he saved the vision in my right eye. OK, I’m not easily impressed or one to leave reviews, but Dr Essepian and his staff made the cut. The staff combines easy friendliness, efficiency and professional competence. Dr Essepian removed my cataracts and fitted me with multi-focal lenses. I was a bit of a challenging case, but he came through perfectly. I was astounded to test at 20/20 after surgery! I found Dr Essepian office staff very friendly. The clinic where the surgery was performed was an excellent and friendly environment. The nurses could not be nicer and tried their hardest to make me relaxed. With the first eye I was not really understanding what to expect. I could not relax, Dr Essepian was patient with me. The second eye was a breeze. I see reviews saying he doesn't have bedside manner. I was not looking for a bed partner I wanted someone to do their job and he did. I have already recommended him to my sister and friends. Excellent Doctor.

Doctor Essepian is an awesome eye surgeon! Five years ago I had an unsuccessful eye surgery by another eye doctor who miscalculated a lens correction. I felt so devastated and at the time I could only see with my one good eye. My trust in doctors/surgeons was lost, but after getting a referral to Dr. Essipian to fix this mistake. I found Dr. Essepian to be very knowledgeable and attentive with his patients and his experience and confidence in performing a successful surgery is greatly appreciated.

Dr. Essepian is an excellent surgeon and a doctor who explains the procedure very well. His expertise in the areas of diagnosis and lens implant are great. Very professional and diligently follow-up in the pre and post surgical procedures.

If anyone cares too much about healthy outcome, quality of service, expertise and dedication to work, he or she should go nowhere other than to Dr. Essepian.

I had an eye emergency while in Virginia. Dr Essepian was kind enough to fit me into his busy schedule. Someone has to feel very lucky! He was wonderful. Immediately I could appreciate both his care ,consideration ,and experience. His instructions were complete and clear. Follow up from my first laser assisted cataract surgery review in 2020: Dr. Essepian just completed my second eye for laser assisted cataract surgery. He was set to do it 2 months after my first surgery, in 2020, however, he noticed I had an issue with my eyes due to an autoimmune disease and said no more operations until this issue was resolved. He went out of his way to ensure I was connected to the Ocular specialist who treated this condition and he took the time to reach out to this Dr. personally to get me an appointment. Once my eyes were back on track we scheduled the surgery in June 2021 and it was great! I can now see 20/20 in both eyes and no longer need my glasses. Dr. Essepian is very compassionate, knowledgeable and keeps you calm and assured during the surgery. Explains exactly what he is doing the whole time. I am very impressed with his staff and surgical center and feel very comfortable knowing I am in good hands with everyone associated with his practice. He explains things very clearly and is extremely honest in managing your expectations. I am extremely fortunate to have Dr. Essepian as my physician and highly recommend him! Fantastic doctor and staff! Very well run and efficient office. Dr. Essepian is very knowledgeable, answers questions and explains what he will be doing and what you can expect for results. Does not over promise but is realistic pertaining to your condition. In operating room very comforting and calming. Excellent attention to detail and is not cavalier about your treatment. Completely uncompassionate human beings. They won't give you a short turnaround appointment even if you are going blind.

I haven't been to this office since June 25th. The doctor I have been seeing has left the firm and my next appointment will be with a doctor I have never met.

This is my sons account I am 59 years old I went to Dr Essepian, I was little nervous after reading his reviews. I found him to be very kind and listen to my eye concerns. Dr Essepian has consistantly provided me outstanding eye care for the past 10 years at his Alexandria VA office. Strongly recommend his health care. He operated on both eyes and removed/replaced my cateracts with trifocal lenses. Everything seems much brighter now and my vision continues to improve. In my recent meeting with Dr. Essepian, he measured my eye pressure had been reduced to 16 and he recommended stop taking glaucoma eyedrops until I see him in another month. Excellent experience - highly recommend! Dr. Essepian was referred to me through another opthalmologist from out of state and he certainly didn't disappoint. His practice demonstrated well refined processes and efficiencies. Dr. Essepian and the staff are also very personable and he makes a point to communicate very well with the patient, unlike many other doctors, and that instills a lot of confidence. His practice uses state-of-the-art surgery for cataracts which is why I chose it, as opposed to others locally. My results with monofocal IOLs were beyond expectations, returning distance vision to 20/20 and needing just readers for close up work. As a note, although optionable and more expensive, I highly recommend using the laser tool for the procedure as it provides a lot of precision and reduces variability in the results. Dr. Essepian is an outstanding ophthalmologist and surgeon. The eye examination was very thorough, and he provided a very clear explanation and diagnosis of my condition. His office is very well organized, and they encourage patients to call with any questions. I had an excellent experience.

Dr. Essepian was recommended to me by my retina specialist, Michael Rivers, who told me that when it came time for him to have cataract surgery, he wanted Dr. Essepian to do it. Then, when I had my first appointment with Dr. Essepian to discuss having cataract surgery on my right eye, I learned that he was a protege of Walter Stark, the world-famous eye surgeon at Johns Hopkins, now retired, who performed cataract surgery on my left eye about 10 years ago. Clearly, Dr. Essepian was under great pressure to perform when he operated on me. But before we get to that, I want to note how impressed I was with the efficiency and friendliness of his office staff. My wait times were short, the exams were thorough but quick, and the equipment modern. Dr. Essepian himself was the same way. And he exuded confidence. The cataract surgery at the NoVa Eye Surgery Center was also efficient and quick. I opted for laser-assisted cataract surgery, and would recommend it highly, as it addresses astigmatism, and facilitates the proper placement of an intra-ocular lens. Now for the results. Dr. Stark would be proud of his pupil. Ten years ago, Dr. Stark improved my vision to 20-30 in my left eye. This December, Dr. Essepian improved the vision in my right eye to 20-15. I could not put in words my gratitude for Dr. Essepian’s skill as a surgeon . On two occasions he improved my eyes. I was blinded from an unfortunate circumstance in one eye five years ago . It left me with a permanently enlarged pupil that was cosmetically saddening. He successfully preformed a surgery that reduced the pupils size normalizing my appearance. Most importantly the second surgery he did was on my only seeing eye. I had developed a dense cataract . I am a visual artist and for three months before he preformed cataract surgery on me I gave up painting . I had the surgery on Monday and today, Sunday , I was outside painting the landscape . I can see better than I have for many years, near, middle and distance vision . It is astounding ! I felt completely safe trusting my only good eye to Dr. Essepian. Terrific staff and Dr.s on site. I initially saw Dr. Essepian who is a terrific, top Doctor and is a straight shooter type. He is quick, analyzes your condition and recommends treatments. Soon after seeing him, he recommended Dr. Stark for dry eye condition. She's full of personality is very caring and thoughtful and has a holistic approach to her consultations. Last fall I had cataract surgery on both eyes, two weeks apart. With each procedure, I had laser surgery to correct astigmatism. I came in with several challenging vision issues. Dr. Essepian took the time to encourage me to think through how I wanted my focus to be after surgery. Thanks to this, I had one eye lensed perfectly for distance and the other for about arms length. This allows me to handle most of everyday life without glasses. I do use cheap reading glasses for reading, and a pair that sets both eyes to distance for looking at the night sky. I recently became a patient of Dr. John Essepian and would like to say he is an amazing surgeon. I had to go through cataract surgery in both of my eyes and, despite some complications with both my eyes, I had a very satisfying experience. I was explained about the process of surgery and follow-up and recovery up front as well as out of pocket expected cost. Even though my initial plan was to just get the surgery and go back to referring Ophthalmologist but after my pleasant experience with Dr John and the wonderful staff at Eye Physicians and Surgeons Inc, I will keep John as my permanent doctor. I chose Dr. Essepian to do both of my cataracts because he is the best cataract surgeon in town. He is meticulous about cataracts and astigmatism and is skilled at doing difficult cases. My retina specialist friends like John because they see everyone's work and know the quality of John's surgeries. Beyond that, he answered my questions and gave me sound advice. He treated me as if I was a member of his family.

I was standing in line to fill a script when a lady dropped her script. I picked up the script. The script had Dr. Essepian's name on the top. I told the lady Dr. Essepian is my go to doctor with my complications at a young age (30's). The lady said, "The first surgeon messed up my husbands eye. Now we are having a re-do by Dr. Essepian. Your search ends now. Your eye is not to be messed with!

I see on here that Dr. Esspian has received some mixed reviews. The business side of the office -- making the appointment, getting a reminder with the incorrect address, the paperwork, the long wait...all of that sucked quite frankly and I was ready to give 0 stars. But Dr. Esspian is a clinician through and through. He was extremely thorough, listened carefully, was totally transparent, and thought outside the box. He worked very hard on an elusive diagnosis. And he read the notes the assistant had taken!!! Most docs do not do this. In the end, seeing him and getting a thorough check-up and explanation was worth the extra hour.

I had a complicated set of issues. He quickly saw every issue and put me on a treatment plan. His surgery skills are the best around. He is kind and instills confidence in his patients. I would not trust my eye care to anyone else. He is the best- I know- I went to several before finding him. His office staff is efficient, personable and most helpful. I was losing vision. Now I’m 20/20 in one eye and after one more surgery will be 20/20 in the other! Don’t take lightly your eye health. You deserve more than an optometrist. The worst eye doctor office, I went there to make an appointment for a eye check up, I gave them my ID and Insurance ID, everything went well then ,so i went back there the following week and after giving her my info again, she said she was not sure if her company accept my insurance and I should call my insurance and confirm so while I was the phone with my insurance she then came back to me and said my appointment time was over and I should reschedule. That was not fair at all and was unprofessional. I did not have a positive experience with Mr. Essepian. I was seen by him in November in 2019 and told him I had been doing some work on my home, had gotten debris in my eyes, and had been having trouble since. Without even so much as looking at my eyes he diagnosed with with Floppy Eyelid Syndrome. I told him I had never had trouble with my eyes in my 50 years of living and he then proceeded to rattle off all of the symptoms he told me I had from sleep apnea to sinusitis to the FES. He finally took a quick look at my eyes and told me to take some drops he recommended. Needless to say I sought a second opinion and it was quickly discovered that I did indeed have debris buried in the folds of my eye. Then today I received an email for a follow up appt. I called to let his office know that I would not be coming in to be seen by him and the young lady who answered the phone said "got it" and hung up on me. WTH??? I was very disappointed that I did not see Dr. Essepian for a consult in my first and only visit.i feel my age and eye condition warranted it. Also, the location and “ambiance” of the office were definitely unappealing.
