Dr. Couvaras' bedside manner was impersonal and condescending. Overall office/staff culture gave off a money-grabbing vibe with unnecessary tests and procedures ordered. I sought better fertility care elsewhere after a few bad appointments with John Couvaras. Wish I had done it sooner in treatment!

Dr Couvaras is amazing and so is P.A. Lisa. They always took time with me in my appointments, but most appointments are follow ups with sonographers. My only complaint with the office staff is that I had to constantly repeat myself, which is tiresome and frustrating on top of the IVF process. The lack of patient notes kept and follow ups by trained medical staff is lacking (most communication is via sonographers). They could use a nurse for follow ups and charting. Despite the constant disconnect, I diligently followed all flow sheets and am now pregnant! Thank you

Dr. Couvaras and team are very professional and thinks outside the box. He is one of the most intelligent and knowledgeable people we have ever met. He is way ahead of any other specialist in his field that we have dealt with and is always current on up to date technologies and practices. Dr. Couvaras looks at every patient individually and treats their specific needs opposed to standardized treatment. We would not have our miracle daughter if it weren't for Dr. Couvaras. We truly THANK him and his IVF Phoenix team from the bottom of our heart. When all else fails and you have little hope, go see Dr. Couvaras and his team, if anyone can assist you in your reproductive needs, it will be them.

I was looking into having and HSG done and had made numerous inquiries. Dr. Couvaras’ team was one of the first to respond. They took their time and answered every question I had before I even scheduled an appointment. That alone made me feel comfortable and confident in going with his practice. They were able to get me in with in a couple days, as this test is time sensitive. At my appointment I was warmly greeted by his front office, and then taken back right at appointment time. He then came in and introduced himself and explained the whole procedure in detail. He got started and it was over before I knew it, with only minimal discomfort. Well since one star is the minimum I have to put at least one star. I had been seeing Dr. Couvaris for a couple of months and went through numerous blood test among other types of tests to see what we needed to do for our plan. The week that I was supposed to have my are you are I done the doctor decided that he would go to a convention and nobody from the office bothered to call to tell me this. This would normally not be a big deal but he is the only one apparently in the office who can perform an IUI which left me stranded. I struggled all morning to find another doctor in the valley that would be willing to perform this without me being a prior patient I had to get all my medical records from them which they gave me a really hard time about until I went to the office and requested them in person. Thankfully I found Southwest fertility center they were able to squeeze me in the same day and made room for me when they are normally booked because of The situation Dr. Couvaris had left me in. I was able to go in and it was my peak day and I spent four hours in the office because they were so willing to help and performed the IUI the same day. The staff at Southwest fertility have such big hearts and are so compassionate and willing to help me in my sticky situation. Please if you are reading these reviews go to Southwest fertility instead of this place. Through all of this I never got a phone call to follow up no apology or anything. Hundreds of dollars wasted seeing this doctor when I could've gone elsewhere. The biggest thing I can stress is that he is the only one apparently able to do certain procedure so if you want to work around the doctors time then go to him if you want a doctor that's going to work around your cycle because we all know we can't control it then please go to Southwest fertility! He refused to remove it but instead had me and my husband do numerous, expensive treatments that never worked and that I am guessing he knew wouldn't work but would make him money since we wanted a child. I finally got a second opinion on the fibroid at the Mayo Clinic. If you are looking for help in the fertility world,look no further! Dr.Couvaras is the BEST,and to this day I thank God for his knowledge and specialty. My husband and I had been trying to conceive for about 4 years with no luck. We went for help at another practice first that did nothing but want to try the same thing over and over again with the same negative outcome. When we first met with Dr.Couvaras we knew we found the one that WILL get us our baby. He looks beyond the norm. Outside the box to help figure out "why" we are not conceiving. After that 1st visit with him we knew he was our doctor. I would say that while doing fertility treatments with Dr.Couvaras you need patience. Lots of blood work and ultrasounds. He will not do anything until your body is ready for it. HE wants the BEST outcome just like we all do! So while we want things to move FAST and hurry up give us our baby,you cant rush this. I learned this from my own experience when my embryo transfer got pushed back a few months because my body was NOT in prime condition to accept the embryo. Dr. Couvaras and his staff are amazing! After 11 years of struggling with infertility and being told that I had a 1% chance of having children, he was the first doctor to complete a thorough examination that resulted in an accurate diagnosis and treatment plan. He and his staff work tirelessly to make their clients' dreams of having children a reality. Any time I had questions, they made themselves available, even on Saturdays and week nights. We saw 2 fertility specialists during the past 3 years while experiencing 3 miscarriages and an ectopic pregnancy. Neither doctor had answers about what was preventing a full-term pregnancy. Dr. C. immediately identified how my immune system was contributing to the loses. We followed his protocol for 6 months and are excited to announce the anticipated arrival of our baby in September of 2017. All is going well. We greatly appreciate the doctor's focus and attention on our specific needs.

Dr. Couvaras is THE best Doctor in the entire world. I don't say that lightly. We have only been going to him for a few months, yet I am sure without a doubt I am in the best hands. He takes his time with you, and really studies everything about your symptoms and body to really understand how to help you. He is probably the most intelligent person we've ever met. He is who we have been looking for for such a long time. He gets to the bottom of problems immediately instead of just treating symptoms. I can't wait to continue under his care. Dr. Couvaras was my third doctor. He was the only one who took the time to understand the underlying issue of my infertility. He worked to bring me to balance instead of immediately super ovulating me and jumping to IVF. Two months with him, no IUI, no IVF and I was pregnant. I am so grateful for him and his practice.

I recently consulted with Dr. Couvaras seeking guidance in how to accurately diagnose and treat infertility. My partner and I have only had one meeting with Dr. Couvaras, but it is very clear from the outset, that he is not your typical fertility doctor. We started by attending his informational seminar on the weekend, where we learned about his background and approach to treating fertility, and then met with Dr. Couvaras in a follow-up meeting. Dr. Couvaras' approach is based decades of research and his connection to other cutting-edge fertility research out there. He questions and challenges traditional fertility approaches, which treat women (and men) like they are cattle to be injected with tons of hormones, to produce the most eggs and sperm. Instead, Dr. Couvaras thinks about the fertility systems as they relate to the endocrine, circulatory, nervous system, and more. He thinks not only of how to optimize (and heal) those systems so that your body can produce the most HEALTHY eggs (or sperm, if you're a man) on its own. How novel! He is a trailblazer who believes in helping the body heal itself so that it produces, on its own, the most optimal eggs/sperm, AND the most hospitable environment for implantation and nurturing of the embryo. I appreciate that his ethics are so strong, and that he's not going to just do the easy and profitable route of pumping his patients full of hormones just to make it to the end goal of producing tons of eggs/sperm, when the implantation environment may not even host the embryo! In the past 3-4 years, my husband and I have sought functional and integrative approaches to healing the body for other issues. Doctors with this approach take note of symptoms as "signs" of what's wrong with the underlying systems, rather than just treating the "signs" alone. We refused to go to traditional fertility doctors who would simply say, "well you're over 40, you're just going to have a more difficult time" and "now we're going to give you a ton of hormones that will put your system out of whack but will produce a ton of eggs". No, we waited until we could see Dr. Couvaras, because we knew he would diagnose what's going on with the underlying systems. What I want to stress, though, is that to me, Dr. Couvaras is the cream of the crop, ie, the best doctor in the functional/integrative medicine approach that I have ever come across! He truly redefines working on the "root cause" of the problem. He is innovative, but that innovation is based on decades of research and collaboration with other root-cause approaches and leaders in the fertility and functional/integrative medicine approach. He is a leader amongst leaders. His approach is data-oriented (proper targeted lab tests, interview questions, clinical examination) and he has a very clear SYSTEMATIC approach to formulating a solid hypothesis as to the problems preventing pregnancy (or causing miscarriage). We have had other doctors who were talented functional medical doctors still get caught up in the complex web of symptoms (which is not treating the root cause!) for myself and my husband. Dr. Couvaras uses the metaphor of "whack a mole" for this phenomenon, and I feel like he was so in sync with our experience of dealing with treating chronic inflammation. I feel that because Dr. Couvaras has a really solid research and clinical experience, he will be able to use that systematic (yet flexible) approach to stay focused on treating the root cause of the problem. My sense is that even if we cannot have a child, we will both at least be WAY more healthy than we are right now. I used to be super-strong in my early-mid thirties, only to see chronic inflammation cause me to become more and more restrictive with my diet and lifestyle and reduced energy. I am hopeful at the end of this process, my husband and I will at least be more healthy and energetic; but hopefully we will have a child. Even if we cannot, I will know that we will have done everything that is possible to make it happen. Dr Couvaras is the amazing doctor that finally helped us carry to term. We couldn't have done it without him and the staff at IVF Phoenix. He never gave up on us and kept searching for the reasons why we were losing our babies around the 8th week of each pregnancy. I love him because he thinks "outside the box" to figure out why. Other doctors took one look at my history and said, "sorry it isn't possible. Your best bet is IVF with Donor Egg." Finally, after 9 pregnancies and 8 losses, we brought our precious baby home. The first day I arrived I was greeted by Schellena - all I have to say is Thank you. Thank you for being respectful and treating us so well. I can't say enough great things about Dr. Couvaras and his staff. They believed in helping us when most doctors & statistics told me I would never get pregnant using my own eggs because I was 44 years old. Doctor Couvaras believed in us and helped us find an unconventional yet natural way to bring our beautiful baby boy into this world without using IVF. He was also able to keep us pregnant which we had problems with before we met with him. We sought out Dr. Couvaras for guidance and testing before even trying to conceive. We felt that it was wise at our advanced age (late thirties) that we determine if we had any fertility problems using scientific tests - rather than 6 months of fun, but ultimately frustrating and fruitless “trying.” Dr. Couvaras guided us through some tests, a questionnaire, and a family medical background evaluation. He suggested his Immune Balancing Protocol to reduce inflammation & help get us pregnant in short order. It worked perfectly and rather quickly. We now have a beautiful sweet 1 year old baby girl. We struggled with infertility and unknown losses for over three years before I found Dr. Couvaras. I was told by many other doctors that my losses we at first "Natural ". Then as we moved forward I was told I had unexplained infertility and two other RE's told us the next step was IVF. My husband and I are not doctors but it seemed to us the IVF was not the answer. I researched for almost a full month and came across a letter Dr. Couvaras had written in hand to the medical board about a medical process in his clinic. The letter was impassioned, you could tell Dr. Couvaras was not only a doctor but someone who believed in his field and truly cared for his patients. I called and made an appointment the next day.
