Dr. John Joseph Brummer

I've been a patient of Dr. Brummer's for nearly 20 years. In that time I've referred countless friends and colleagues to him, and my wife and two teenage kids have become his patients too. He's like family, but that's the way it's felt since my first visit... and from what I've seen over the years, this is how most patients feel toward Dr. Brummer. His team (and esp. his longtime office manager, Nicole) is top notch, always available to accommodate changing schedules, short-notice needs, and any/all insurance complications. Even when I was in-between jobs and insurance carriers, Dr. Brummer found a way to make it work for me and my family so we wouldn't go without care. On top of all that, he's got to be the best-connected doctor in NYC, and he's referred me to some of the best specialists/practitioners in the city. It seems overboard to go on with more compliments, but I can't say enough good things about Brummer Surgical Podiatry.

My second time seeing a podiatrist, and it stops here with Dr. Brummer, no need to look further! Not only is he a great doctor, but he’s so personable and his energy is amazing. So happy I got referred to him.

I visited with Dr. Brummers at NYPT and he was by far the best DPM I have ever seen. First, he has great bedside manner and you feel like you want to get a drink with the guy after your appointment. Over the past 6 years, Dr. Brummer has helped me recover from debilitating ankle pain and also learn to live with flat, wide feet. In the past, I felt very limited with the types of shoes that I could wear comfortably. Cannot say enough about the quality of care and support and follow up I received from Dr Brummer. I came in with some significant issues related to a foot injury and he was able to resolve them and thoughtfully follow up with me every week for 6 weeks thereafter to ensure a rapid and efficient recovery. Dr. Brummer was very professional and knowledgeable. The office was clean and staff was efficient. He quickly diagnosed me and ordered me custom inserts which has made a ton of difference. Easy to talk to and takes his time with his assessment rather than rushing like other doctors. Highly recommended!!!

My dad’s right foot was permanently deformed and he suffered terrible pain after he underwent three surgical procedures by Dr. John Brummer. My dad phoned Dr. Brummer’s office complaining of pain and he was treated rudely. More importantly, he was disregarded and ignored by Dr. Brummer, who chose to never return his calls. It has been over two years and my dad never recovered. Patients beware!

There are many reasons why Dr. Brummer gets 5-stars. The office I went to (Madison Ave) is conveniently located in Midtown. The office itself is clean and the staff is nice and helpful. Dr. Brummer was an extremely nice guy and knew exactly how to help me. He showed me things I can do myself at home to help alleviate my issue, prescribed some medicine that will help, and explained next steps in case I need to take them. So there you go, a 5 star masquerading as a 4 star. I went to to see Dr Brummer with a bad foot issue about 3 years ago. Now it is December 2018 and my feet are the one part of me which is the best of all the parts of me as I see them, a not so perfect 'customer'. I am not so young anymore and the doctor treats me like a friend. maybe in his eyes I am one, but I always expect and want a professionalism, a doctor who knows his podiatry yet knows how to communicate it. I get that every time I see him. I always have a smile when I leave his office because this guy gets the job done and I know what has happened since I last saw him. One more thing. His staff? I first went to Dr. Brummer for a badly infected ingrown toenail, as he came very highly recommended by a number of people I know. He was willing to squeeze me into his busy schedule the day I called even though I was a first time patient (my toe really hurt so that was much appreciated). He was phenomenal from the first visit to diagnosis, surgery consultation to the operation and even post-op care over the Memorial Day weekend. His experience in sports and performance arts (dancers in particular) injuries & treatment delivers more precise operation technique and faster recovery. I visited 4 different orthopedic surgeons and Dr. Brummer was the most knowledgeable and comforting one while he was fast and to-the-point before the operation while he was transparent and explanatory for the details and what to expect every step of the way. His staff is very tentative and friendly, they never make you feel you’re on your own looking for some answers. It is very rare when people are excited to see their doctor. Aside from Dr. Brummer’s amazing talent & skill set, he just has this way of making a scary and uncomfortable situation tolerable. I was referred to Dr. Brummer by another fabulous surgeon, Dr. Thomas Romo. At first I was a little apprehensive since Dr. Brummer was outside of my insurance plan. But then I thought, it’s your foot, you can’t mess around with your foot and you need to go to the best. And that I did, Dr. Brummer is the best. I recently had much needed bunion surgery. The entire experience leading up to the surgery was seamless. The attention and care at Midtown Surgery Center was second to none. I am on the road to recovery, each day is getting better. Dr. Brummer was able to fit me into his busy schedule on the same day I called for the appointment. He was able to fix my issue quickly and efficiently. I felt instant relief, and was actually able to start running again which is something that I had been unable to do without significant pain for months. 10/10 would recommend.

I was referred to Dr. Brummer by my pain management specialist and started care with him in May of 2016. Dr. Brummer is treating me for arthritis, plantar fasciitis, and referred me to a vascular specialist for vein reflux disease. Because I think so highly of Dr. Brummer as a doctor and a person, I have had two of my children under his care and my ex-husband currently sees him. In my opinion, Dr. Brummer is in the top 5% of healthcare providers in professionalism, competence, and compassion. He is one of the most dynamic people I've had the pleasure of meeting and interacting with. As a wife, mother of 3 teenagers, having my own personal health issues, and having been a healthcare provider myself, I've had exposure to MANY doctors and the benefit of being on both sides of the treatment table. I do not state this lightly. My ex is a hard-sell when it comes to accepting medical care and likes and trusts Dr. Brummer too which speaks volumes. Dr. Brummer removed a bony growth off of the top of my foot in 2014. He ran multiple tests and tried many conservative methods before opting for surgery. I'm a naturally anxious patient and he always put me at ease and calmed me down. My surgery went well and I was dancing and teaching in 3 1/2 weeks without pain. I saw him for a few visits post-op and everything was great. His office staff called and checked in with me to see how I was doing after a couple of months. I haven't had a need to go back until now. My first contact was with Aisha, his office manager and I was completely blown away by how helpful and kind she was and how fast she was at getting back to me! I have had nothing but positive experiences with Dr. Brummer and Aisha, his office manager / go-to lady. The offices are brand new, clean, and they run on time. Aisha consistently answers all my questions before and after making my appointment. I had been looking forward to spending the Christmas holidays in New Jersey with my daughter and family but I didn't think I would be able to get there, because of the terrible pain I was experiencing when I walked from a corn in between two toes of my right foot.. Fortunately one of my doctors recommended I see Dr. Brummer who immediately dealt with the corn; the pain was gone, and I was able to go to my daughter's. That was nearly five years ago. In March 2014, Dr Brummer treated the soles of my feet and removed pockets of hard skin that had been given me pain as I walked. He has gifted hands and vocation for his profession. I didn't feel pain during the process. He is a caring doctor.

Treated my ingrown toenail deftly and painlessly, and quickly calmed me down despite me practically grinding my teeth from anxiety. It's been a month since the procedure and not once did my toe hurt or feel itchy. Sociable, friendly doctor.
