Dr Yao has a warm personality, listens well, answers questions clearly and has demonstrated care for my needs and concerns.

Met Doctor Yao during scheduled consultation for abnormality on the hand. He was calm, courteous, and professional.

Dr. Yao is an excellent surgeon with tremendous experience in his hand/elbow specialty. He also has great interpersonal skills. I will absolutely go Dr Yao again if needed.

Dr Yao is a supremely skilled surgeon who uses state-of-the-art techniques to perform the best thumb surgery in the market today. He reattached my UCL ligament and reinforced the repair with an internal lateral brace. My restored ligament is now rock solid and I am returning to full activity three months after surgery. I recommend Dr Yao with enthusiasm.

This morning I had a video visit with Dr. Yao. He was very prompt and pleasant to talk to. I was able to explain my concerns and I felt he listened carefully. I was given two options for my medical problem. He will be scheduling an office visit to talk personally about the best option. I was extremely please to have a video visit today. It saved us a 2 hour trip to his office and provides time for me to think about the options. Our video visit was a request that I made and I appreciate that it was convenient for me, my concerns were addressed and further contact will be made. I have trust in Dr. Yao’s medical expertise and look forward to receiving additional help from him.

Thank you so much for the top-notch professional care I received at Stanford under Dr. Yao's care. Feel so relieved to have the large cyst on my right hand finally removed! I barely felt anything the day after surgery, and the surgery itself was painless. Everyone on Dr. Yao's team treated me with the utmost kindness and professionalism.

Over the past 12 years, I have had the privilege of being treated several times (severely broken wrist, two broken hands, a mallet finger, and an elbow neuroma) by Dr. Yao and his Nurse Practioner Anne Owen. I have developed such trust in them that when I had a recent hand injury while traveling, I just had a splint applied and took the next flight back to Dr. Yao and Ms. Owen. I owe the use of my right hand to them, as well as my deepest respect and gratitude.

I was recommended to seek Dr. Yao's advise regarding my thumb and 2 other fingers by my well- respected and highly proactive primary physician. And he did not disappoint ! Dr. Yao is very professional, an excellent listener regarding your needs and concerns, considerate and compassionate, and offers his patients practical alternative choices to solve your problem. I would not hesitate to recommend him to family and friends for any difficulty involving one's hands.

For the past 6-8 months, I've been experiencing a lot of pain in my right hand and arm due to carpal tunnel and peripheral neuropathy. I couldn't sleep at night because of numbness in both my arms. Well, I had hand surgery YESTERDAY morning and look, here I am using the computer! I had absolutely NO PAIN or numbness last night for the first time in months! Yes, my hand is a little sore because the numbing medication wore off; however, this pain is nothing in comparison to the pain I've been experiencing for the last months. I should have done the surgery sooner, in retrospect. Dr. Yao is a master at what he has been blessed to do. He has a great bedside manner and is very professional. If you have any kind of hand pain, DON'T hold off, don't suffer needlessly. Make an appointment with Dr. Yao now!

I felt I am fortunate to see Dr. Yao for my hand problem (I fell from a small stool) unfortunately it was almost one month. Prof. Yao is very serious for collecting the all the medical history and symptoms: I filled three detailed forms including 4-6 hand pictures with many blocks for me to illustrate which part I have symptom. Also he gave me another x ray which he found problems - I have hand wrist fraction. He gave me cast which is so helpful. He is very professional, attentive, also his team is good too. I am very thankful!

He treated my mallet finger and at a video visit I questioned the slow progress and he became defensive. He put down outrageous visit notes afterward describing me being irritated/angry multiple times in an unusually long notes for only a shot visit. I felt extremely offended and requested record changes at their office. Then all these words were taken out after my appeal, based on the facts that they are inappropriate and irrelevant to my fingers. He should not have done that in the first place, totally unprofessional. Never have I met a doctor did something like it making a patient intimidated in such a horrible way. Worst experience ever.

Dr Yao is an amazing surgeon. While playing tennis, I broke both my wrists and then both tendons ruptured. Dr. Yao replaced the tendons and i was back playing tennis within 5 months! I have a new problem with my right hand and have complete faith in Dr Yao's suggested surgery to remove the pain. Thorough, patient, and kind. His team gathered information and they passed it on to Dr. Yao. Once Dr. Yao met with me he asked questions, presented a plan, and future options if there’s no improvement. There are times I spent time giving details to the nurse or a fellow, but have to repeat it to the Dr because it wasn’t passed on or they weren’t clear. This appt was quick and easy to check-in, fill out questionnaire, and called in on time. I didn’t feel rushed. Front desk gave me alternative location as a backup option for MRI since Stanford’s imaging wait is two months. With my permission, front desk faxed my MRI request along with insurance info to a third party imaging. As soon as I arrived home the third party MRI texted to confirm they received my information. Dr. Yao removed a cyst on my index finger today. He and his team did an outstanding job from the time they checked me in to the time I was put in my car. I am super grateful for their professionalism and caring.

I saw Dr. Yao for a severely broken wrist in 2018. My experience with him and with his assistant, Anne, was very good. He’s a fine surgeon with an excellent interpersonal style. Dr.Yao is very nice and professinal, I trust him to treat my wrist.

Doc checked my problem, immediately suggested an X-ray. Done, in a stroke! Revealed were all his prior work and a few sneaky problems. Not easily alarmed, he suggested a month of wrist rest, with nature and time doing their healing without medicine. Was he right? Only time will tell.

Dr.Yao and his team were absolutely amazing…they made me feel comfortable all the way through the process and confident that I was in great hands. They were all professional and in good humor…the perfect combo for surgery!

Dr. Yao is an expert in his field and has helped both my husband and I with hand injuries. We are very thankful that he is also personable and kind.

Dr. Yao was very clear in explaining what the situation is with my carpal tunnel. He spelled out the reasons that I need to schedule surgery as soon as possible, including the different types of procedures available. I was impressed with his professional and personable manner.

If I could give more than 5 stars I would do so in a heart beat! Dr Yao and his team are amazing and really do their best to understand and care for their patients needs. I felt so comfortable being taken care of by the team and not once did I feel like I was being ignored. Before attending their care, I was unable to move my fingers from a tragic event involved with a knife causing tendon and nerve damage. I had to schedule a visit with Dr. Yao for a fracture in my hand. I felt right away that I was in the best possible hands to take care of my issue. He carefully examined the x-rays and explained the situation in a way that was easy to understand. He then took great care of talking thru the options I had. Dr Yao did a magnificent job resolving the dupuytren's contracture affecting two digits on my right hand. It was very advanced and he was able to reverse the condition completely, which is not an easy task

Dr. Yao is awesome. He's helped me with 2 separate bouts with mallet finger. I'm pleased to say that in both instances, my fingers fully healed, and I'm back to an active lifestyle.

Dr. Yao is a great surgeon. I had a complex distal radius fracture. Dr. Yao surgically fixed my wrist, orif procedure. No pain. My recovery has been amazing and painless.

Dr. Yao is great, very personable and listens to your concerns. He was treating me for a trigger finger. This is the second time I've been treated for this condition but on another hand. The first time was 3 year earlier and after treatment, never had another issue. Hoping for the same results as before.

Dr. Yao successfully operated my left arm for congenital radioulnar synostosis. He was able to reposition my left forearm to neutral allowing me to put my left arm to use in daily activities. Overally great doctor and a good man.
