Dr Yu was very professional and he was very easy to deal with. TOA has some good doctors I would recommend them!

I would definitely recommend this orthopedic office to anyone of any age and trust this staff. They are extremely professional, very friendly and if for some reason, your particular physician, can’t see you, they will make accommodations so that someone else in the office can help you until your physician is available.

Dr. Yu did X-rays of my right foot with the crossover toes and compared it to a previous X-ray of the same foot done 9 years prior. He recommended corrective surgery to remedy the discomfort and pain I was experiencing. I scheduled surgery. I had put the surgery off way too long.

Comprehensive knowledge of cause, effects, and rehab or surgical treatment options. Excellent guidance and interaction with my PT Dr. Pursuing the non surgical rehabilitation with his guidance. Very broad command of the risks and outcome variables based on US and global studies - most impressive and a super bedside manner.

Had appointment with Dr Yu regarding pain in my foot. I had previously had surgery on the other foot so I knew I could get the answers I needed. He took time to listen and answer all concerns that I had. Very patient with me and didn’t try to rush me out of the office. I highly recommend Dr Yu if you are having any type of foot issues.

Expedient and polite greeting and check in. Brief wait time. Communication was excellent with Dr. Yu. All of my inquires tolerated and answered professionally and compassionately.

I had a foot surgery

I went to Dr Yu for a second opinion and knew by his detailed explanation of what was wrong with my foot that I wanted him to do the surgery.Outcome is perfect. He listens well & explains in a way east to understand. Very knowledgeable, conscientious, professional but down to earth in a practical way.

Dr. Yu is an incredible doctor. He operated on my right ankle, and it has been great ever cents and that’s been like nine years ago. He’s now treating me for my left ankle I would trust him completely.

I would trust Dr Yu with any ankle surgery that he feels necessary. I had a wonderful experience when I needed a triple arthrodesis of my left ankle. The the surgery was very successful and I am sure that not many orthopedic surgeons can pull this off but he did and I am so blessed because now my ankle is 100%. He is very professional and explained everything to great detail. I would highly recommend him.

Dr. You is so professional yet so down to earth. I had to have surgery and not one time did I feel uncomfortable with my decision. He fixed my problem, and help me to understand that I would be back to 100% in no time. I would refer Dr. You to anyone.

I saw Dr Yu as a kid for knee and ankle injuries from sports. For about ten years, I trusted him and his nurse Julie always got me an appointment as quickly as possible whenever I needed to be seen. Dr. James was very friendly and he gave me all my options and let me decide what I wanted to do. He was patient not rushing and let me know he would work with me.

Doctor Yu is a very personable doctor and I have no issue with him as a person. I had a poor experience around expectations that were set. I had three injuries, one that required surgery and the other two that just needed a lot of time to heal. All of them impacted when I could walk again. I was told the surgery wouldn’t require any PT and that I could expect to walk in 6 weeks. I questioned the no PT and even the time frame and was assured that was correct. I was also told to that because it was a fast surgery, pain would be low and I only needed one day off work. My pain and brain fog lasted for 5 days. There was no easy way to get in touch with him or his nurse to discuss the pain management. I ultimately had to get pain guidance from a charge nurse that was on call. I was then told that most people don’t have the pain I had when I came in for my next visit two weeks later. When 6 weeks came, my other two injuries were still no where near the end. He unfortunately didn’t take them into account when quoting the 6 weeks despite knowing about them and discussing them. It felt that because they didn’t need surgery they were an after thought. I now had to be in a boot and crutches for another 6 weeks. I asked again about PT at 6 weeks and got a response that I wouldn’t forget how to walk. It’s not a matter of forgetting but that not using my leg for 8 weeks had me with muscle atrophy and pain. I pushed back and he felt all a PT would do would be to rotate my ankle and it would be a waste of money. I called back a week later asking for a PT script and for a call back. No one returned my call. I called a week later; no returned call. I show up to PT two weeks after the first call hoping that they sent it. Fortunately they did, but the PT told me nothing about my injury was shared on the script. She didn’t see anything about surgery on a ligament, an ankle fracture, and a severe sprain. At the end of the day - I know we all heal and feel pain differently. It felt like that the expectations he was setting were a one size fit all and unfortunately leaned towards being condescending. I hope that Doctor Yu takes the time for future patients to hear them, not dismiss them, and preface that while the majority of people experience x, it’s possible you could experience y. I cannot say enough good things about Dr. Yu. He is SO good at what he does. Super down to earth, great bedside manner, and very helpful when we had questions. We’re telling everyone we know what a great job he did on our daughter’s Achille’s Tendon surgery.

Went to see Dr Yu when I got knocked off a 8ft ladder and landed on my left heel with all my weight and shattered it in to thousands of pieces. Dr Yu did surgery on it and did a great job putting the metal plate and screws in it. We are still working on getting it back to normal as possible. I will recommend Dr Yu to everyone.

I've seen Dr. Yu several times after he performed bunion & hammertoe surgery on my foot. I've had some issues with continued swelling but it has nothing to do with his surgery. He has been very thorough in his efforts to help find a solution to the problem. I think he's an excellent surgeon & is concerned about his patients. I highly recommend him.

The whole experience was wonderful. The check in, x-rays and the meeting with the doctor was all done in a timely manner. Dr Yu treated all questions as important. I love that there are no long waits to see your doctor. My doctor is always friendly and very knowledgeable. I am concerned about the in and out process once I see him. I feel like he is rushed to see so many patients. I don’t have time to talk and share my concerns to get the answers I need. I know he doesn’t have time to sit and chat, but I do want him to know me. My last visit was less than 7min. We actually could have had a virtual appt. My son requested off from work to drive me to my appointment. Just had Second surgery by Dr. Yu. For first surgery, I wound up with Dr. Yu because the specialists in Chattanooga were not on my insurance. He was closest orthopaedic foot specialist in proximity to my hometown. After further investigation. I discovered that members of his group had been team physicians with Titans. Good enough recommendation for me. With Dr. Yu, I was able to have a less invasive procedure with great outcome His staff is friendly, efficient. Dr. Yu is excellent surgeon with great bed-side manner.

I went to Dr. Yu after having surgery on my foot by another doctor which did not solve my problem but made it worse. Dr. Yu came highly recommended by a co-worker. He was patient he took time and listened to my conerns answered my questions. He took x-rays of my foot after reviewing the x-rays he explained the messed up surgery the previous doctor did. He gave me options how to correct the problem explained in details what will be done in the surgery and the length of time for recovery. He performed the surgery which was highly successful. Dr.Yu has performed several surgeries on my foot and will be the only orthopedic surgeon operating on my foot. If you need the absolute best foot surgeon I highly recommend Dr. Yu.

I’ve seen Dr Yu for a couple of concerns and he was able to give me non surgical options and excellent care. I’m glad he offered less invasive options first and they have worked. I’ve heard that typically surgeons only see surgical relief. His manner is easy going and kind. He speaks as an equal… not condescending or authoritative. He imparts knowledge effortlessly and is genuinely caring. I’ve already recommended him. I was referred to him by a friend that works with a lot of surgeons; he highly recommended Dr Yu… stating that he would personally get on his surgical table any time. That spoke volumes to me. If I end up ever needing surgery I feel I can trust Dr Yu when an anesthesiologist can say that.

This was my first time in the OR and Dr. Yu was great! 10/10 would recommend. Came to him yesterday for a visit and he operated on my Achilles the next day after agreeing on the diagnosis and indication for the procedure. From clinic to PACU, the process was painless ???????? The entire care team was great as well.

Dr Yu was so thorough and found something on my X-ray that was missed by the previous physician from another hospital. He explained my diagnosis and gave me all the options. I would definitely go back if I needed to.

Had an appointment at TOA with Dr. Yu. I was very pleased with the whole process and made to feel very welcome. Very nice facility. Dr. Yu made me feel at ease and answered all questions and concerns.

Yes, he specifically described my foot issues with language I could understand as a non medical person, and he was totally honest about my choices to have surgery. He did not offer surgery as the first choice of treatment which I appreciated. Dr. Yu is very knowledgeable and highly profession in his demeanor with new patients. I will recommend him and plan return visits to him in the future.
