Dr Thomson has operated on me three separate times- 18 years ago, 11 years ago, and four months ago. He is very very kind as well as skilled. He is meticulous in his work and I am very grateful to him.

Worst experience ever. No regard for patient wellbeing. Disappointing outcome as well.

I study medicine and I know my case was so difficult. After five abdominal surgeries in same scar area. An emergency appendectomy in Elmhurst NY after one day delay in ER, Then 8 cm renal cancer at QG Hospital in New York, then a year after I developed my first abdominal hernia, repair with a very small mesh that, of course, didn't work. Two years after recurrence and at Greenwich Hospital I got laparoscopic robotic intraabdominal mesh, without replacing the outer little mesh and I believe I got more damage of Right Rectum muscles. The follows up decline to fix it told it wasn't hernia is diastasis ( damaged muscles) Stamford supposedly by the best complex hernia repair chief physician, Dr. Symons W. only open me, review of outer little mesh, plicate or suture few loose parts of it without correcting anything as the defect was much larger, and of course no resolution of anything at all, His follow up just told it was information, but the bulging and soreness was growing all year long, the second follow up was just that nothing else could do and limit my lifting and activities. Then after been declined by several plastic surgeons, bariatric ones, and several times by an excellent Dr. who did my robotic laparoscopic mesh at Greenwich, as it wasn't a hernia, ( Just diastasis as if it was normal and have no symptoms nor solution). No one surgeons I consulted in CT felt competent of fixing my damaged right rectum muscles declined to fix my belly. Then I was going to live partially disable for the bulging and pain unable to lift more than 20 Lb, etc. Thank God, Dr. James G. Thomson discovered that most of my torn right rectus muscles were compacted or retracted as a mass in my right side of abdomen leaving a little and weak layer holding that enlarging bulging mass. He plans to dissect the muscle mass, cover the weak abdominal area, replace the nonfunctioning little first outer mesh that wasn't doing anything in a large defect, he left the inner large intraabdominal mesh placed couple years ago by a good at Greenwich H. robotically but unfortunately he didn't it wasn't enough support to hold my intraabdominal pressure and didn't change the no functioning outer mesh torn and damaged muscles and defect was growing more and more even doing any activities nor working. Dr. Thomson with the assistance of Dr. Vikram Reddy, a colon surgeon who detached the first outer mesh to allow Dr. Thompson to place a new larger re-absorbable outer mesh in a larger bulging and weak area. Now after a week of a successful surgery I can see the improvement. His services and staff are 5 stars. I think nobody in the USA would do what Dr. James Thompson did for me and what for thousand and I hear in his office the same gratitude on his other patients who he has treated. Million blesses for his kindly and professional to see and fix what others don't know. I respect when others Surgeon Drs declined my case as I'm sure they didn't know what to do and didn't want just to experiment on me. Thanks again, Dr. James Thomson. Marlon C Norwalk CT

He has residents surreptitiously perform his operations. Teaching is more important to him than doctoring.

Dr Thomson is a very gentle and polite doctor. My main issue is that he (his staff? whomever) give very little information about what is going to happen, recovery, therapy. I am sure they are all busy, but it makes the patient feel so unimportant and uninformed.

I had 2 surgeries performed by Dr Thomson. The outcome was excellent each time and I was very pleased. He is a no nonsense doctor with a sort of detached bedside manner ,but he does a great job and that is what counts to me.He's there to fix my problem not be my buddy.Kind of hard to get to see him and you're dealing with the massive Yale health giant which can be a pain. All in all he's the best one for surgery of the hand, wrist etc. and I have had other hand surgery by other doctors.
