Dr. Jae Y Lim

I am so grateful that I was referred to Dr. Lim. He and his entire staff have been top-notch. They are incredibly helpful, friendly, and informative. Six months ago, Dr. Lim performed a disc replacement that has been a huge success and led me to a pain-free neck after years of problems. They have been very on top of my aftercare and I have felt like they truly care about my health and well-being. Cannot recommend this team enough.

Atlantic Brain & Spine is an outstanding medical practice. Dr.Lim’s cervical spine surgery seem to go extremely well. I have already experienced considerable relief from my prior condition in less than three weeks from the date of surgery. Meghan, a highly knowledgeable nurse practitioner, takes the time to clearly and patiently explain what the surgical process will be like; how the surgery went post operatively; and everything you need to know about the recovery process. Peter, the surgical coordinator, is the heigth of efficiency in scheduling your surgery and a multitude of other office and hospital visits. Gigi, the receptionist/administrator, is always friendly and efficient — and always answers the phone! On a scale of 1 to 10, ABR gets a 10! I have already recommended the practice to a couple of friends and family members. You will be in good hands with Dr. Lim and his team. They view themselves as a boutique practice, and they truly are – giving patients the highly individualized attention and care they need.

Dr. Lim was recommended to me by a friend who had a similar disc replacement. His staff was accessible, friendly, and always helpful. Dr. Lim is a very talented surgeon and I would certainly visit him again if needed. That said, I am not happy with his lack of communication before, during, and after the procedure. During each appointment, he was very abrupt and reluctant to go into details unless I pressed (explaining my MRI, disc replacement process, possible risks/complications, etc). Immediately after my surgery when he called my wife to tell her the procedure was over, he verbatim said "the surgery is done". No comments on how it went or if there were/weren't any issues. At my first post-op check in, he walked into the room, showed me my x-ray, and said "there it is, looks good". The remainder of the appointment he was silent, forcing me to ask questions regarding my lingering pain that he abruptly dismissed. He is very talented, but his communication is sorely lacking.

I wish I could give Dr Lim more stars as he has a nice, well-meaning bedside manner and the surgery he performed on me was for the most part successful. However, my overall experience as his patient was impacted by the care I received from his nurse and the staff at the Reston hospital. I had a terrible experience with the hospital and have learned they are owned by HCA Healthcare who has been alleged with terrible quality of care (just do a Google search on HCA). And unlike other reviewers, I found Dr Lim’s nurse Meghan to be completely unsupportive. Although Meghan had reassured me during my initial office appointment that she would check in on me before the surgery to go over any concerns I might have, she was a complete no-show before my surgery. I met the entire surgical team like the anesthesiologist and even Dr Lim made sure to stop by, but there was no sign of his nurse. She nor Dr.Lim never offered any explanation for her absence which was odd. Her lack of follow through increased my anxiety going into the surgery as I was concerned about talking with her about post surgery care and pain management. After the surgery, she seemed impatient and uncaring with handling my post operative care and could not be bothered to return phone calls. Meghan’s role is a critical one on Dr. Lim’s team, and his patients need and deserve a compassionate nurse. Dr. Lim deserves a higher quality hospital to perform his surgeries at and a more professional and supportive nurse.

My husband has been suffering from back pain for almost a year. He went through a few physical therapy and injections but nothing helped. So we were looking for a reliable surgeon and several people recommended Dr.Lim. I’m really glad we took their recommendation. Now, three months after the surgery, He no longer has back pain or leg numbness. Also, all the staff in the office is very friendly and always helpful. Thanks to Dr. Lim, Megan and Peter.

I heard about Dr. Lim from a friend when I was being seen/treated elsewhere for problems with my neck that required surgery. When I researched Dr. Lim, seeing his incredible background and credentials as well as his position as the Chief of Neurosurgery Trauma at Reston Hospital Center, I thought I had to see him. During my first appointment/meeting with Dr. Lim I knew if I was going to proceed with surgery, he was the surgeon that I wanted to perform it. In that appointment, he took the time to review all my records, describe exactly what was going on in my neck, (including the fact that it would not improve, but only get worse over time), fully explain the procedure and what was involved in a 3 level ACDF, and how it would correct the problems I was having. He told me to take my time to think about everything and let him know what I decided to do. Although I was seeing Dr. Lim at this point for a “second opinion”, he took his time and made me feel like I had been his patient since the beginning of this ordeal. He showed me incredible understanding, compassion, and concern for what I had been going through and gave me hope and confidence that the issues I’d been dealing with could be arrested and significantly improved. There is no other surgeon I would trust or recommend for spine surgery than Dr. Jae Y. Lim. He is a gifted and talented surgeon and he has a great bedside manner. Meaghan (his NP), Peter, Robin and Kyleigh exude professionalism and concern. They are extremely responsive and available when it comes to answering questions, scheduling appointments, and assisting with all types of paperwork and forms. I highly recommend Dr. Lim and his incredible staff at Atlantic Bain and Spine.

PATIENTS BEWARE. The FRONT DESK office will profile and discriminate. The treatment my mother received from the front desk was appalling. My mother was referred to Dr. Lim for his excellent patient care. My mother had brain surgery and was asked to see Dr. Lim immediately for a trusted follow up. Sadly we never got past Robin and Cynthia at the front desk. They made the process to see Dr. Lim impossible and refused her communication with Dr. Lim (as directed by her Primary Care). Robin's management of the front desk was sad to witness. Cynthia's treatment of my moms case brought her (a 75 year old woman) to tears. No one should be put through such cruel and heartless engagement, especially at a doctors office. This should never be the case but the front desk prevented patient care based on their biases and discrimination. It is a sad story but a reality nonetheless. I had a 3 level cervical fusion done yesterday afternoon. I was home me in no pain less than 24 hours after waking up in recovery. Dr Lim is FANTASTIC at what he does, and has an amazing bedside manner. I had originally gone to him seeking lumbar surgery first (where I will also need a 3 level fusion) but he identified (where no other Dr I've seen has) that the majority of my pain was coming from arthritis in my hips, not from the lumbar disc herniations. I had a herniated disc at c5-c6 which was compressing my spinal column. A bone spur on the vertebrae cut into the dura causing a spinal fluid leak. It all happened January 26th 2018. I went the entire time from January to September, which was the first time I saw Dr Lim, basically living on drugs. Meghan and Dr Lim were very thourough in their exam and went over everything with me so it was clear. I have never felt better in my life! Their after care is phenomenal and again very thourough. The staff was phenomenal and maintained great communication throughout the entire process. I felt welcomed and in great hands immediately. I had excruciating sciatic pain for about 3 years. I couldn't walk or stand for longer than 10 minutes without my legs tingling, going numb, or just completely giving out on me. I tried waiting it out, physical therapy, chiropractors, etc...to no avail. After countless hours of research and a very frightful MRI, I knew that surgery was inevitable. Dr. Lim did my disc replacement surgery in 2017 and is now treating my other cervical issues and I have nothing but great things to say about him and his staff. They are all very professional and sympathetic to the patients issues and do everything possible to help. I also like the fact the that last resort for the practice is surgery. After my surgery, I was up an around in two days and fully functioning at work within two weeks after having two discs replaced. I would like to share my experience as a patient of Dr. Jae Y. Lim. I had endured excruciating back pain for approximately 1 year. I tried everything I knew. I was not successful. I consulted with 5 Orthopedists who told me I was getting old (I'm 70!) and should expect pain. I was blessed to be referred to Dr. Lim. In every meeting, Dr. Lim proved to be knowledgeable, interested, and caring. He used models of the spine and my x-rays to illustrate what needed to be done. Dr. Lim NEVER dismissed my concerns. He clearly explained my options. I believed him unquestionably and opted for surgery. In a short time I was was scheduled for surgery on 9/8/17. Dr. Lim was with me all the way! I was a bit nervous walking through the doors of Reston Hospital, but I was optimistic Dr. Lim would take care of me and make everything all right. I was confident in his expertise and skills. Coming from a family with doctors and nurses, I believe when you want to know about a doctor, you ask a nurse.The OR nurses at Reston Hospital said without a doubt, Dr. Lim is FANTASTIC! My spinal surgery was successful. I went home knowing he was only a phone call away. My wife and I have found Dr Jae Lim to be an efficient,smart & pleasant surgeon.He did a lumbar surgery for my wife and has also treated me for my spinal cord issues. Dr. Lim performed an L3-L4 microdiscectomy on me. I had significant pain and lost feeling in my left leg; MRI on 28 Dec 17 confirmed a ruptured disk. Dr. Lim responded to my plea for urgent action by performing surgery at Reston Hospital on 10 Jan 18. Dr. Lim and his PA, Megan, kept me well informed and at ease throughout. My leg is dramatically better. The entire staff was professional, friendly and responsive. I have already recommended Dr. Lim to several co-workers.

I came to Dr. Lim as a second opinion and I am happy that I did! I needed a milti-level cervical discectomy and was told that my only option was to fuse them. Dr. Lim performed a milti-level disc replacement and I am very happy with the results! I want from being in constant pain before surgery to pain free afterwards; it was like there was a pain switch and he turned it off. I am very happy to be back to my many extra circular activities! I first met Dr. Lim and Meghan at Reston Hospital May 19 2017 after a benign brain tumor was discovered. Both demonstrated great care, concern, and compassion while outlining next steps. My surgery was 5/22. I was discharged 5/25 and, miraculously, returned to work 6/16. This would not have been possible if not for the skill and precision of Dr. Lim. I was back to Zumba in no time! I look forward to office visits; they respond promptly and professionally. Big hug to Meghan! You all rock!

Dr. Lim is an exceptional individual. His surberb medical skills are enhanced by his approach to his patients. It starts with his wonderful staff who are friendly and accomodating. Next you are visited by his PA who is both competent and knowledgabe. When you first meet Dr. Lim, he puts you at ease with his friendly concerned manner. Within moments, you know that you have selected the right doctor. His creditials are impeccable. His explanations are easy to understand and you are never rushed.

Dr. Lim performed robotic assisted spine surgery on me 15 months ago. Because I am somewhat compulsive and I knew the seriousness of the surgery, I went to four different practices to meet with each potential surgeon and asked many questions. Dr. Lim's knowledge and experience, yet gentle manner won me over. His minimally invasive surgery allowed me to recover at surprising speed. He followed me up for the next 12 months. The fact that I can walk upright today is due to Dr. Lim !

I found Dr. Lim to be both professional and personable. He was very clear and articulate in answering any questions I had and seemed genuinely concerned for my health and quality of life. Dr. Lim performed a complete disc replacement of my C5-6 and 6-7 vertebra. The entire process, from evaluation to surgery to post op recovery was seamless. His staff is equally impressive. I have and will continue to recommend Dr. Lim to anyone in need of a neurosurgeon.

Best doctor I have ever had. Great personality and is very concerned for the well fair of his patients I have had more than 10 surgeries and Dr Lim is the best. His office personnel are great and his assistant is most helpful and kind and knows what she is doing. I would recommend this office to anyone.

I am a 70 year old male who has had debilitating back pain for ten years. I have had virtually every pain management treatment including the implant of a neurostimulator. The pain kept getting worse. After seeing five spine surgeons I learned of Dr. Lim, and the Mazor robotic system. I had the surgery about one month ago and feel like a new man. During three weeks of inpatient physical therapy all of the therapists said they had ever experienced such a rapid recovery. Thank you Dr. Lim.
