J Paul Mahfood

He is the first Dr I could find when I moved to fl. I think he is wonderfull. He explains thing and makes you understand you problem. The only thing I would say would be waiting times are occasionally long. But other than that he is a great Dr.

Dr. Mahfood is knowledgeable in all phases of health issues besides rheumatology. He has spoken to me about my neck surgery, my diet, sugar intake, etc. He is one of the few doctors who know of my Pompe disease. I am lucky to have such a scholarly physician..

I started seeing this Dr. When I first moved to PSL. I have never been treated so horrible in my life. I have RA, Psoriatic Arthritis and all he was worried about is drug testing me for every drug there is, with out me knowing. I have never ever done drugs in my life. So I don't understand what right he had to test me, when i was there because of a illness, not a drug problem. The worst Dr. Would never recommend and office staff, attitude city. Dr. Mehfood is an excellent doctor. However, his office staff does not answer the phone or return calls from answering service. Impossible to make or change an appointment. Also, the Aetna portal malfunctions, can't leave a message there. I'm done!

Dr. Mahfood seems quite capable but there’s a problem with his office and the way it’s run. My wife had an appointment with the doctor last week. He prescribed some cream that he failed to mention to us. For the past four (4) days, we’ve called his office , but no one answers the telephone. It just keeps ringing and ringing. All in all, not a good experience.

My elderly grandmother has been attempting to schedule an appoint with this doctor for over a month! She’s sent to an answering service and told that they are short staffed and can’t help her. I tried to reach them myself and was met with the rudest representative I’ve ever encountered. When I asked for her name so we can keep logs of our attempts for our insurance, she told me she placed me on hold, then came back and very nastily gave me her first name and told me she didn’t have time for this and hung up on me. When I called back at this point asking for a supervisor I was told by this same rep that SHE was the supervisor and didn’t have time for THID TODAY! If this is the front line for this location I’m frightened to see what is behind this curtain. Dr. Mahfood is without hesitation the BEST of the BEST. I am so thankful, no one compares to this amazing Doctor. He tells it like it is and will take any amount of time with you, he is spot on with his diagnosis. You can clearly sense his passion for you and your health. Doctor and staff not wearing masks!!!!

I recently visited Dr. Mahfood's office and observed all staff wearing masks. The patients were all wearing masks. With regard to the comment above by Mrs Petsche it is my observation that her comment is misleading and misinforming the public.

Dr. Mahfood is the the BEST. Seen him for years while living in Port Saint Lucie. Moved to NC back in 2015. I have not found a Dr here that could ever compare to the care I got from Dr. Mahfood. He is the only Dr that listens to your concerns and takes action. He fights your insurance to get what you need for your condition. I think of him often and wish he would move up to NC. This was my first visit after recently moving to this area. The office staff was very friendly from the first time I called for an appointment. I waited a little while to see the doctor for my appointment but after meeting with him I understood why as he asked a lot of questions and did a very thorough exam! He listened to my comments carefully. He was not rushed in any way and offered, what I think is a good plan of action and advise. I am extremely happy.

I just stopped going to this Dr. I should have left years ago. He doesn't treat. I have nerve damage in my hip and he's aware of the problem yet refuses to do anything about it. My last visit he sent me home with ibuprofen. I was in so much pain I had been up for days. I found out the only way to fix this is surgery. He did nothing for me. Also don't even try to call the office, you'll be lucky if anyone answers. It usually just rings and rings or you get the answering service. I'm never going back there. Dr. Mahfood has been seeing my husband and myself for over 8 years. During that time we have come to know he cares about his patients. Listens to our concerns and answers any questions. Dr Mahfood has taken great care and time explaining each of my conditions related or not to rheumatology. His knowledge is broad outside of his specialty. Even though his staff are always busy, they are doing 1000% of their jobs to ensure we are all seen, given appropriate care, and making sure we dont leave without our explicit instructions. Being that I have memory problems due to other unrelated illnesses, Dr has always attentively listened, cared, and resolved every issue I have. He is a kind and caring physician. We need more doctors like him, and less of the 5 min prescription pad doctors we have turned out of med school. His staff are friendly to me, patient with me and yes, they could use extra hands, but cant we all though? Patience is a virtue. So is empathy. Some of these naysayers here need to put themselves in their shoes and not be so quick to judge. By the way the office manager is on that phone everyone is complaining about trying to juggle appts and insurance and labs etc. If you want the best rheumatologist, make Dr M your choice. He is a great doctor, he takes his time explains things to you, you can talk to him. He actually cares about his patients.

Dr Mahfood has always been extremely helpful explaining to me what is happening with my diagnosis. My former physician abruptly left and I had to scramble to find a new 1. No problem. He is 100% concerned for my well being. That is why when I 1st became his patient he went through my entire medical history. no matter how long it takes he makes sure you leave with your medicine and instructions n know what to expect. I would highly recommend him and his staff works very hard to accommodate me.

This man is amazing

I have been seeing Dr mafood for about 8 years now. I have a very complicated Medical history. Psoriatic arthritis, arthritis, fibromyalgia, back trouble and alot of other things. He's a kind and gentle man, funny. He's definitely there for you he was the only doctor that could successfully treat my psoriasis plaque psoriasis and my.psoriatic arthritis. ATTENTION MR DOYLE A concerned person called my attention to Mr Doyle’s review and I was shocked by the malicious and hateful review he wrote on Dr Mahfood and his staff and his disrespect for 8 reviewers who gave Dr Mahfood 5 stars. I know Dr Mahfood (Dr M) very well. He is a good person and he is among the best of the best of Physicians. I Know this because I am a Medical Assistant who worked with him for 10 years and I have worked with a lot of other Doctors and I know he has an excellent reputation in Florida. I am also his Patient. Dr M has a very large practice of Patients and cares for every one of them. He spends more time with them than most doctors do with their Patients; he listens to every Patient and he examines every Patient from head to toe unlike other doctors and only prescribes what they need and never overutilizes his services like others do. Dr M wants the best for his Patients. He is compassionate and kind and makes himself accessible to Patients. He wants to make them healthy and pain free. He is a Patient advocate and goes out of his way to fight for what they need from their Insurance although he doesn’t always win. He is truly one of a kind. What Dr M expects from every Patient is honesty and compliance. Mr Doyle’s wife was noncompliant. You opened this door about your wife, Mr Doyle. So here goes. Mr Doyle was never a Patient of Dr M’s. His wife was seen by Dr M 4 times over 2 years. This is because Mr Doyle’s wife was in the habit of not being compliant with her appointments and recommendations and was not always honest in her communications with Dr M. Her last visit with Dr M was in October 2017. Dr M received a call from the answering service around a month after her last appointment from the Patient stating “my hives are worsening”. Nothing about “bleeding hives” and no record of her calling “15 times”. Dr M was willing to see her the next day and advised staff to over book her in the clinic the next day. She refused and went to the ER. Yes, we are busy every day. Dr M has a large practice. We also changed to a new Electronic Medical Record(EMR) in Nov 2017 and posted a notice in the office for all to see. The transition from the old EMR to the new EMR was difficult for some Patients to get through to the office and we are grateful to our Patients and appreciate their understanding. Mr Doyle should know there are consequences when rumors and lies are spread online and elsewhere. Under Florida Law the consequences of defaming someone’s reputation can be very serious and legal causes for action exist for defamation, libel, and slanders. Dr Mahfood and his staff hope that Mrs Doyle will be compliant with her next Rheumatologist and wish her the best of health. Word to you Mr Doyle and any one like you: Shame on you for attacking a good person. Shame on you for trying to harm the good reputation of a good doctor. Shame on you for attacking his staff. Dr, Mahfood is very knowledgeable and explains everything in terms of understanding. I look forward to my visits with him. He is compassionate and also has a warm sense of humor. His staff is also very friendly. Wait time is not reasonable (I wait an hour past my appt. time). It is next to impossible to reach anyone by phone.

The office gave my pharmacy mail order the wrong prescription dose. Patient portal is not available. Wait time up to an hour. Phone always busy when it's not they answer put you on hold then hang up. Dr. Mahfood does not listen to you. Tells me I don't have RA but writes in my chart that I do have it. I never get a print out of why I was seen in over a year.

My visit with Dr. Mahfood was excellent. He is more meticulous than any doctor I have visited in the past. He spent about 30 minutes asking questions and about 15 minutes examining me from head to toe. He then provided a very understandable but in-depth preliminary diagnosis and we (actually) discussed treatment options. Once we agreed on a treatment plan that worked for me he prescribed some follow-up tests. In all he spent over an hour with me. Excellent staff. Excellent doctor.

I literally teared up when I realized he was taking me seriously. I have a miriad of symptoms that no one has pieced together. I always thought they were connected but admonished by other health professionals. I was most fascinated watching him piece together the puzzle which I call my body. I almost cancelled this appointment thinking it would be a waste of time. I was not prepared for my visit, and literally sat there dumb struck, like a deer in headlights. Dr. Mahfood's assessment of who I am, couldn't have been more precise even if he knew me for most of my life. His diagnostic skills, coupled with a quality of unbelievable listening attentiveness, left me in total awe, never interrupting, nor rushing through any of my scattered thought process. If anything, I was so overwhelmed with this unexpected experience that I felt so foolish for not bringing any of my numerous test results, and suffered a complete brain fog, trying to answer his questions. I am thrilled I finally have a correct diagnosis, one that was broken down for me to understand, and that I will be treated accordingly, with a favorable outcome. I no longer have to have thoughts of hypochondria, and look forward to my future visits with Dr. Mahfood. I suffer from a really rare disease that has no cure. Dr Mahfood took me in as a patient and is the best Doctor i have ever seen. He listens, tells you how it is and most importantly makes you feel comfortable. The staff is also amazing and so nice. They get you in and out in no time and are always there to listen. I got a phone call back from Dr. Mahfood to tell me the following: 1) My needs were not urgent and therefore despite using the patient portal on 3/15/17 requesting his input, therefore, the first contact back to me was today the 4/7/17 2) I am unreasonable in my request to have a response sooner 3) He recommends that I find another Rheumatoligist I simply wanted the Dr. to help me navigate a prescription he made that was denied/deleted at the pharmacy. A real quack! Run don't walk away from this doctor! Advised to get a massage for neck pain. Ended up in ED & needed emergency surgery for spinal cord compression. Terrible office staff, very unprofessional. Big issue to get medical records from this office, why? I felt like he was only interested in my insurance & co-pay.

I am not one to do ratings, in fact, this my first ever. However, as many as I should have done, this one simply cannot be left undone. This Dr is very much a rarity and absolutely amazing! Even the primary physicians, which I must say I'm quite fond of, have never done as thorough an evaluation of me as a whole! He actually realized there is more to me than my knees or kidneys or liver or which ever specialist I happen to be in front of at the time (and unfortunately the list is almost endless!) CS and MS.... I have been to see the doctor 2 times. The wait time is reasonable, and Dr Mahfood is very nice, has a sense of humor, and explains things very well. However, the office staff, in particular, Tina is the rudest, most heartless person I have ever dealt with in such a position of trust. No matter what you say she cuts you off and berates you. I have, as well as my husband has experienced this behavior over the phone, and have heard this in person as i was sitting in the office.

Amazing! Knowledgeable. Caring. sees the big picture. He even has a sense of humor! I was unable to get the slides to work. I am 68. Wait time is reasonable. (Less than 30 min) I have had 3 visits in past 2 yrs.
