What a joke. I waited 2 hours for my appointment; when Dr Gilmer finally came in she did not ask me ANY questions, she took a very quick glance at a 2 year old MRI and told me I didn't have Chiari. That was it, she was done with me. She didn't explain anything, she didn't answer my questions. Her PA had sat and asked me many questions, had ordered a new MRI and had shown me the areas on my old MRI that showed signs of Chiari. When she tried to speak after the Dr came in the Dr shut her down. She said "it" mimics chiari, but she never said what "it" was. I would never refer this Dr to anyone! She is rude and arrogant.

I will strongly not recommend having Dr Gilmer do any sort of surgery for you. she did not help my situation at all then proceeded to give up on my case and stated that I should just quit my job, sell my condo. live with my parents, because that is what most people do in my case....must be nice to make 6 figures and screw with peoples life. Dr. Gilmer is a God send. She took pain away that had stolen my quality of life for 10 years after a MVA. I can't recommend her highly enough. She's a very caring, understanding and empathetic person as well. I am grateful to her everyday that I no longer wake up feeling like a tank is parked on top of my head.

She did my son’s surgery on June 16th 2021 and she did my moms also 7 years ago and we was every bit of amazing my son is healing well and we just had our appointment with her yeasterday. She is super calm and patient even when my son doesn’t want to cooperate!

Dr Gilmer fixed my 3 yr old sons chiari malformation. Everything went smoothly. He was having very serious problems prior to surgery. Her team got him evaluated quick and surgery scheduled ASAP. It is now going on 2 yes and he is thriving! Thank you so much!

Had Decompression Surgery for Chiari. She was the second surgeon to do it. She is amazing!!!!!

I had major neurosurgery by Dr. Gilmer and was not told of the potential consequences or follow up care. Nobody would talk to my son. Nobody would tell me about follow up care. I was in such excruciating constant pain at a 2 week follow up that I can’t even remember it. I remember getting a prescription and telling the driver to get me home immediately. Then I called a friend for help. It was a prescription for pain. After hours the pain calmed down with new prescription and complete bedrest. But I was only given 2 weeks of this pain medicine and wasn’t told where to go to get good pain care. Now after 20 months I’m able to talk about it but still have constant severe pain. I now remember a doctor in the hospital telling me I had to get a physiatrist but nobody would help me find one or refer me so that the doctor could understand what care (including prescriptions I needed). I still can’t walk, stand or sit without severe pain. It’s all very sad. The surgical nurses in the office told me they don’t treat patients after a month when I called because I sure dont remember doctor Gilmer telling me what to do at that 2 week follow up visit. In the hospital She said I dont need a brace but now I realize I do. Because I now have kyphosis. I never had it before. She is wonderful!! She is extremely knowledge and a very skilled surgeon. I am very thankful I was referred to her by my Neurologist. She listens to your symptoms, orders test and upon reviewing them, gives you a diagnosis and her recommendations. Mine was surgery.

She did my Decompression Brain surgery and even though I’m still healing I can tell a difference. She saved me #ChiariWarrior

Dr. Gilmer saved my life.

For years, neurologists told me I had a bizarre version of a rare condition that usually causes extreme pain. My foot was the opposite: numb and cold. Only Dr. Gilmer disagreed. After looking at the same test results and at X-rays she'd ordered, she diagnosed pressure on nerves--caused by known herniations in two low-back disks. Dr. Gilmer is a awesome Dr and saved our daughter. When other Drs. Told our daughter it is all in your head. Dr. Gilmer proved them wrong and proved that out daughter did heha Chilari Malformation and did Brain decompression on our daughter. Very highly recommended her.

The doctor was amazing! (Gilmer) However, the billing department is incompetent. Working insurance for years, I knew that they billed improperly. I was sued for over 5k while fighting for my life. All the while both insurance companies instructed the office to rebill and the issue would be resolved, they refuse. Now I owe over 5k because they refuse to bill properly and I am now to pay for their mistakes while undergoing life threatening major surgeries and lengthy recovery. They do not care for their patients or the severity. Ive never expierienced less effort put into any correction when the mistake was there’s and could have been resolved WITHOUT me. All the information was and is completely accessible by them. For example, secondary Medicaid had 0 issues with obtaining my then insurance information from a COMERCIAL insurance carrier. Just as the staff was giving and it if lost could have called themselves the same as Medicaid did for a no longer active insurance. But they make their own rules that in return rob the patients blind. And they simply do not care. I nor anyone I know that goes to that practice will any longer be a patient. Not now or in the foreseeable future. We all have had seem to have major billing issues. I nor do any others get paid to do their job correctly. It’s sad when good doctors have poor staff and lose patients in dire need of their help. The staff has always been an issue for me and many others. Especially when they make a mistake and refuse to correct it or even put any effort into resolve in the first place. The negligent staff should pay out of pocket for their mistakes as now I am expected to do. Or maybe one of my FOUR FILES had the information as I had given it and again over looked by staff which again if they were to do their job, could have even called to resolve the issue they created!! FOUR FILES FOR ONE PATIENT! Completely asinine. Lastly, they all were asking each other what they could or couldn’t do one said they could rebuild the other said they couldn’t. All openly asking each other what they will and won’t do. No one knows what they are doing in that department. So who ever had the “less work to do” answer, that was the one settled spin and now I’m screwed fighting severe medical issues along with my house burning down and everything I own! I am now 12. My name is Charles Honsinger and I had Dr. Holly Gilmer for my Spinal Surgery and she put 3 stitches trough my spinal cord. She then did Emergency Surgery and after that she ditched my family. She is the WORST Nerosurgen I have ever had in my life.

Saved my life, first neurosurgeon I found that actually understood chiari and after surgery with her I was able to return to work.

She is a life saver she had to fix a decompression surgery Henry Ford Hospital messed up bad! I was a pretty rough and difficult patient medically but she was able after seeing many doctors to first diagnose Chiari and correct my surgery and do my vp shunt! She really saved my life and now in the next two weeks she will saving our daughter life as she has a severe case of Chiari and over crowding! She listens to what you say very sweet and nice and will explain in detail what’s going on with you

I would give her no stars if I could. She did an absolutely unnecessary surgery on my daughter that then resulted in countless life altering surgeries and living her daily life in a non favorable way. Do your research on her prior to surgery. She is money driven and is in the profession for the wrong reasons!

I was 15 years old when Dr. Gilmer-hill did my surgery for a gunshot womb to my right leg, although the bullet couldn't be removed because it's lodged in my main arteries, she gave me another chance to do all the things some other doctors said I couldn't I'll be 30 June 28th I just wish I could tell her as I hug her thanks for giving me another chance to walk she is truly An Angel here on earth I love you forever LaToya B.

She is the best. She made me feel better about the surgery and she did an awesome job. I am grateful I found her.

Dr. Gilmer put me at complete ease for my 1st surgery ever in life. I put my life in her hands and she did very well by me. I am extremely satisfied with the outcome of my surgery.

Dr. Gilmer did my chiari decompression and gave me a new life. It was a rough surgery but I feel so much better.

Dr. Gilmer recently preformed posterior fossa decompression on me for a Chiari Malformation 1. My experience with her and her staff was very positive. I also had a very good experience with the hospital and staff there. She is a very skilled surgeon who showed compassion and a great amount of knowledge about my condition. I felt confident in her ability to preform my procedure which made the whole experience less stressful. I would recommend her to anyone in need of this surgery.

Dr Gilmer is the best Dr I have ever had the privilege of knowing. I am an adult woman of 46 in age who had spina bifida. Dr Gilmer took on my case right away . I found out by one of her colleagues that I have a long with Spina Bifida, Chiari malformation , untethered spinal cord and hydrosfoulus..When she put my shunt in i was terified of the own known. You wouldn't think I would be terrified since having at least 100 surgeries since since birth,. This surgery was by far the easiest for me.

I had surgery with Gilmer back in 2008. In 2012, after a second surgery with a different doctor for Arnold Chiari Malformation Type 1, I received the surgical report which stated before and after my first surgery, the MRIS show that during the surgery my C2 vertebrae had been broken and healed incorrectly and created a bone spur. Gilmer was responsible, she NEVER told me and instead left me to find this out on my own. I've been diagnosed with a secondary condition because of this bone spur.

Doctor Gilmer is an amazing doctor. She saved my life. Her bedside manner is top notch. I have never had a more personable and caring doctor. I wish more would take after her.

She is very easy to talk to, listens very well, an is very knowledgeable. Her staff is very friendly an always accommodating. When she is with you, you do not feel rushed she takes her time with each and everyone of her patients, but the most of all is she LISTENS. an does not make you feel like your stupid or crazy.
