I need to express my feelings on my breast exam conducted Tuesday, June 25th, around 10:00 a.m. I have never felt so uncomfortable during a breast exam, and I have experienced over 30 exams. I have been a patient of Dr. Richard Pees for the past 15 years, and only switched to a new doctor due to an insurance coverage change. When Dr. Pees conducted his exams, I felt his professionalism and never felt uncomfortable. He would only do one exam, lying down, leaving one breast covered, as he quickly exam the other. He used only one method, not three. He did not feel the need to conduct the breast exam sitting up as well as lying down. He also only used one method, pressing down in a circular motion. He conducted his exams quickly, and with limited touching. He explained what I should do, without demonstrating how I might perform the exam “in the shower.” Having me sit up, and taking my gown off entirely, exposing both breasts at once, and demonstrating multiple methods of examining caused me to feel extremely uncomfortable. Having me lay down, and performing the same set of methods of examining my breasts, again both exposed at the same time, also made me feel extremely uncomfortable. I would never recommend his services. I have two teenage daughters. Had the Doctor performed such a breast exam on one of them, I would have expected them to never want to have another breast exam done for the rest of their lives. When it comes time for my daughters to seek the services of a gynecologist, I will not recommend Dr. Train. I am very bothered by the exam, and would not want my daughters to feel this way. I had to write this letter, because I feel so strongly about how horrible I feel as result.
