After a 15 minute visit with the doctor, he said I have arthritis, gave me a prescription for a medication I told him I was allergic to, a back brace that couldn't have been worth more than $100, and my insurance was billed $1000. He also sent me to get an MRI and PT but I would never go back to him. All I can say is – watch out!

Doctor Arends was very uninterested in helping me when I came to him with chronic pain focused around my back. He diagnosed me with a compression fracture on one of my vertebrae; I later found out there was no such injury on my back. He had me fitted for a back brace and told me to take Tylenol and told me I did not need a follow up appointment. I actually have a connective tissue disorder causing my pain. He seemed to just glance at my scans and spent very little time talking/listening to me.

After struggling with a bulging disc to the point I could no longer stand upright, I went to see Dr.Arends on recommendation from an orthopedic dr. Dr. Arends spent less than 5 minutes with me; he looked at my MRI for less than 15 seconds and told me to take an Advil. Fast forward a couple months, and I had to have an emergency discectomy because my lower half of my body went numb (cauda equina syndrome). He dismissed me as if I were making it all up. Caution with Dr. Arends.

I was referred to Dr Arends by my spine surgeon Dr Van Buskirk. Today I had the procedure with injection to my L5 Dr Arends is very professional he explained before hand what to expect and talked to me during the procedure to make sure I was doing well. He has an excellent bed side manor, the procedure was realtively quick and with hardly any discomfort. I had a positive experience

Horrible experience with billing (billed insurance differently from what I was quoted). Minimal time spent on treatment.

I strongly discourage working with Dr. Arends - 5 minutes of consulting, followed by 15 minutes of on your own exercise. The office insisted on being paid upfront, then failed to properly bill insurance. Contacting the office they simply don't bother to correct billing problems. Additionally, insurance billing does not match quoted prices, so I'm suspicious of the ethics associated with the clinics Dr. Arends is associated with.
