Dr Rodts listens well, explains things, and is kind and personable
Couldn’t have asked for a better outcome after a C5/6 fusion. I got my life back and I’ll forever be grateful to Dr. Rodt’s and his team! He is kind and helpful and listened to me. I recommend him to anyone that has cervical or spine issues!
Dr. Rodts is absolutely the BEST! Love their new facilities and how efficient they are! I would not consider going anywhere else, it's all worth the 6 hour drive!
Very caring and erudite physician. He also possesses the emotional intelligence to proactively listen to his patients. He is an Emory 5 star gem. The best of the best!
I was very impressed with the time and attention that Dr. Rodts and his team paid to me and my case. His explanations were clear and easily comprehendible and I really felt like he understood my specific condition. I am looking forward to working with Dr. Rodts and his team going forward.
Ruined my life. Absolutely horrible surgeon. Caused condition that led to 7 additional surgeries. Stay away. Used a product that is not approved for use in the c-spine and definitely not anteriorly. This has been confirmed by 3 different neurosurgeons unrelated to Emory. Truly ruined my life, career, everything.

Dr. Rodts is kind, attentive, and a tremendously gifted surgeon. In early March 2022, he and his team successfully performed a cervical arthroplasty to correct spinal compression in my neck. At 6 weeks, my neck feels smooth and mobile, and I'm optimistic and eager to gain strength and get back to normal. It would not have been possible without him and his wonderful associates (Erin, Jamie, and Dr. Gary) at Emory Atlanta. Dr. Rodts is kind, attentive, and a tremendously gifted surgeon. My wife had stenosis in her neck. Dr. Rodts is the absolute best. He’s very personable and makes certain the patient understands all aspects of the surgery. Had surgery with him in 2014 and he jacked up my cervical spine so much it caused a cascade of other conditions. 8 years of my life gone, my career gone, and not once did he look at all of the images or reports. Or order the tests that were needed to reveal the problem. Stupid me had surgery with him again in 2021 and have been suffering ever since. Neither level fused, discs are too high, constancy chronic pain.
I have seen several other doctors who could not explain the source of my chronic pain. During my one appointment with Dr. Rodts he circled the source of my pain on my MRI, and said it was only the size of a BB. Plus, he helped me avoid surgery with a better solution to reduce my pain. I highly recommend Dr. Gerald Rodts if you know anyone suffering from back pain. I have seen several other doctors who could not explain the source of my chronic pain. One of the most knowledgeable physicians I have ever been under.
Dr. Rodts is amazing - he completely fixed my neck (disc removal/fusion). I have zero pain and full mobility! And he’s a super nice human being. 25 stars out of 5 : )

Very nice, compassionate man. Explained everything very thoroughly.
There is is not enough praise in the world for Dr. Rodts. I am only 1 month post op fusion of L4 L5 and I already feel great! I was terrified to have surgery, much less involving compressed nerves and a loose vertebrae. The minute I met Dr. Rodts I was put immediately at ease. Dr. Rodts is more than a true professional, he is an all star, no doubt among the best neurosurgeons in the US, if not the world. He did my surgery perfectly. Do not hesitate to have surgery by Dr. Rodts, he is not only an amazing surgeon, but also a kind and compassionate human and all around good person. Dr. Rodts is a great communicator in addition to being the surgeon who made my pain go away. He helped me understand what was going on in my neck and what it would take to repair it. Very pleased with the results!!
Dr. Rodts is the most self-assured, knowledgeable physician I’ve ever had. During our first & only visit (virtual) prior to surgery, he explained my situation, why my problems were occurring and how surgery would improve my current status. I feel very blessed to be one of hid patients.
He has performed spine surgery twice on my husband and we wouldn’t trust anyone other than Dr Rodts. He is passionate about his craft, studies all options carefully before deciding on surgery. Puts patients first, excellent besides manners and care! We are so blessed to have him as our spine surgeon.
Dr. Rodts took the time to explain exactly what was going on with my neck issue (MRI), as well as my options for correcting it (surgeries). He is warm and friendly (not typical for someone with his credentials!), and I have 100% confidence in him! Looking forward to getting this surgery done and behind me!
Ive known Dr.Rodts since May 2008.He has been the most caring, considerate, most knowledgeable doctor I could have prayed for.He has cared for me through three major c-spine surgeries.Im so blessed to know him & have him as my doctor in continued care.My mom even talks about how wonderful he is, she smiles when she speaks of how great he was with my care. There is no doubt he is great at what he does.I do believe its because of his great work and still up and moving.Im so thankful! Dr. Rodts took my case on after a doctor here in Atlanta botched up my surgery. He was open, honest, and made me feel like I was now in the best hands. We knew after just a few minutes with him and his staff we were in the right hands. You may have to wait longer than you want to get an appointment, but trust me on this... he’s worth the wait! After having 2 repairs to my spine he’s never left me. Reviews matter, credibility counts.
Outstanding physician. Very personable. Great surgeon.
From the moment we entered Dr. Rodts clinical office, it was nothing but professional, yet warm and friendly. Dr. Rodts along with his staff treated us with concern as to how best to relieve the pain that I was in. They showed a picture of my MRI AND explained why I was having the pain and what options were available. We decide on the surgical procedure because the other options would only treat the symptom not the underlying cause. Surgery is now complete and the underlying cause of the pain is now gone. Many thanks!!
Excellent. I know 6 or 7 people who have had Dr. Rodts operate on their backs. All excellent results, including mine.
Excellent Doctor; no more deep pain in my back.
I’ve been seeing Dr Rodts since around 2001 for various back and neck surgeries. He’s the most perfect dr I have ever been to. In fact I just saw him yesterday and suddenly realized one thing that makes him stand out from the others. I had been to several other drs this week for other ailments and it hit me like a bolts of lightning. He came into my room prepared ! No computer to hide behind. He has copies of my MRI and X-ray with him and I could tell that although I had been seeing him a long time that he had reviewed my chart before he cane in. He sat down with me and showed me exactly what was going on and gave me several options as to what to do about it. I felt he was talking to ME not fiddling around with a computer. As I said I guess it just hit me as I had been to several others the same week how wonderful it was to have a dr spend as much time as necessary with you and answer all of your questions without feeling rushed Sure I had to wait a while In the room but that was ok because I knew he was giving his other patients the same quality care that he would give me when my turn came. I cannot say enough good things about him. And after reading all of these reviews I can see why it takes so long to get an appointment with him Also James, his nurse is a godsend. He always calls you back as soon as he can and he makes you feel like you’re not the pain that you probably are. He will go out of his way to help you out in any way he can. Wish there were more drs and nurses line this. I’ve been seeing Dr Rodts since around 2001 for various back and neck surgeries. He’s the most perfect dr I have ever been to. I am very pleased with Dr. Rodts and thus far the results of my Spine surgery!! He has very "GOOD" Bedside manners and is professional yet Human in his explanation of conditions and corrections of said conditions!! Needless to say, I think of Dr. Rodts as an asset to Emory Hospital as well as the Southeast region as a whole!!
Dr. Rodts is my hero! After three FAILED lumbar spine surgeries elsewhere, he was able to correct the problems, and gave me my mobility back. I spent over a year wearing a back brace as part of my daily attire. After the surgery by Dr. Rodts, I wasn’t required to wear a back brace at all! I still have a little numbness, sometimes a little back muscle fatigue, but the pain is almost completely gone. He is also very caring and easy to talk to. He listens and explains everything very carefully.
Outstanding care and concern with a wonderful personality and level of empathy. Well organized.
I was fortunate to find Dr Rodts 10 years ago when he fixed a herniated disc. When I had a much less obvious problem and spent nearly 2 years going from specialist to specialist and no one could figure out the source of the problem, Dr Rodts knew what it was right away. He fixed it and I am doing great. He’s not just an incredible doctor, he’s also a great guy and nice to look at, too.
Dr Rodts and his staff have been exceptional in all areas of my pre and post surgery care, and is a great communicator. Two other neurosurgeons declined my case because of the extent of lumbar damage. Dr Rodts did not hesitate to help me and at this point I couldn’t be more pleased with the results and the positive impact on my life.
could not have been better at all levels
I was very nervous about the condition of my neck that was explained to me by the referring doctor He assured me Dr Rodts was an excellent surgeon As soon as I met Dr Rodts he put me at ease by explaining the procedure and that he had done this surgery many times I feel blessed to have found Dr Rodts
We cannot thank Dr. Roots enough! His surgical expertise combined with excellent follow-up care have led to a complete recovery in record time. His staff are most courteous and professional as well.
From the moment my husband and I walked in the door we knew we had found our Doctor. He went to great lengths to explain my option and time to think them over. His nurse James has the patience of Job and never makes you feel as though you are a headache. Make sure you try and take someone with you so they can take notes. His bedside manner is like a warm, fuzzy, bear so if you are looking for gruff, look elsewhere. Had my surgery Monday for my L/5-S1 and came home Wednesday. Excellent surgeon. Not sure why i'v waited so long to review Dr. Rodt's but 6 years ago to this day he performed life saving surgery on my spinal cord removing a large tumor from my spinal canal. I remember going in for my first consultation with him and had to wait almost 45 minutes past my scheduled time. Every doctor in the place had their schedules running on time except him. At first I was upset but after meeting him I came to realize why his appointments always ran behind. He is truly passionate about helping his patients and when I pulled out a long list of questions to ask him he said with a smile on his face to ask away. He never once looked at his watch or the clock because the appointment ran long. Instead he looked me in the eye and reassured me I was going to be alright. He would not leave the room to go to his next patient until he was sure I was ready to go. I am so blessed to have put my life in his hands and to this day am healthy and happy. If you are considering back surgery, there is only one doctor in Atlanta to consider -- Dr. Rodts. He has performed 3 successful back surgeries on my wife. This was my first significant surgery. I am amazed at how little pain I experienced in my time in the hospital and the weeks of recovery following my surgery. I have been going through a rigorous physical therapy program and am returning to all of my favorite physical activities without pain. The entire Emory Spine team has been great.
Impressed with Dr. Rodts and his ability to identify your problem and solution. While it is too early to judge outcome (around three weeks) I am generally pleased with the progress.
I'd give Dr. Rodts more than five stars if I could. He was highly recommended to me be a co-worker. I researched my condition and surgical options, learned how to pronounce "spondylolisthesis," :-) and underwent laminectomy and fusion. I have no regrets. Dr. Rodts and his nurse, Mr. Edmunds, answered all of my questions and allayed my concerns. HIGHLY RECOMMEND.
Months of personal research continued to highlight Dr Rodts expertise and passion for surgical improvements. I am extremely fortunate that I was introduced and after 10 years, we both agreed surgery was the right option. It is still early in my recovery, but I am very confident in our success. He is unique, as he is gifted surgically, displays tremendous confidence and does not rush patient conversations. He is ELITE in his field and I am thankful for his attributes and special character.
The care I received from Dr. Rodts and his team at Emory Midtown during my back surgery and recovery was outstanding. It's been 3 weeks since my surgery and I am able to perform most household tasks and I no longer need pain medication. Every question I asked since my surgery was answered promptly.

Great experience all around. I saw Dr. Rodts for a herniated disc. He was exceptional throughout the process from consultation to surgery and post op. The surgery went exactly as planned with no complications. I would highly recommend Dr. Rodts as he is an experienced, knowledgeable doctor.

Dr. Rodts is without a doubt is an extremely intelligent spine surgeon. His surgical procedures are always done carefully. Dr. Rodts discusses all aspects of an operation that he will perform so that as a patient you feel completely relaxed prior to surgery by his explanations of exactly what will take place. He always speaks to the patient in the patients level so there are no misunderstandings which will put you in a very comfortable state of mind with Dr. Rodts expertise as a spine surgeon.

Dr. Gerald Rodts, Jr, MD is the very best Neurosurgeon in the entire Southeast. He has operated on my back twice, L4-5 and recently L3-4. My husband worked for Medtronic and Dr. Rodts was doing a research project for Medtronic. At one of Medtronic's conventions, my husband ask the whole group who hey would recommend to do back surgery on his wife (me) and they all stated without hesitation, Dr. Gerald Rodts at Emory in Atlanta, he is the best. And, his bedside manner cannot be beat!
I have already referred several patients to Dr. Rodts, one of them had surgery and is grateful to be walking without pain again!
This is my 2nd surgery with Dr. Rodts. The results were excellent in 2011 and the early results today (6-7-17) for the 2nd surgery are excellent. He's extremely busy so getting appointments can be challenging; but he's well worth the wait.
There are people you meet that you feel as if you have known them all your life. You feel instant confidence in what he tells you,and his own confidence in his field. I know there are a lot of Doctors out there but I am honored to have met Dr Rodts.
Very professional and understanding. Listens well.
Good Dr Great patience with patient, explains medical condition in every detail. listens and answers questions well T.G
The best care, very professional, great bedside manner, great assistants
So far my experience with Dr Rodts has been terrific. He spends plenty of time with you as a patient and answers all questions. I had a drainage issue after surgery and the office was able to get me right in to see him. His staff has been very accessible as well.
Personable, instills confidence. Takes the time you need to answer questions & explain procedures. I especially like that he uses your X-rays &/or MR I results to teach you about your issues .
