Dr. Holmes was able to identify my issue pretty quickly. I went to Loyola urgent care first and they missed the issue entirely even though they took X-rays too. It took Dr. Holmes with Midwest Orthopedics at Rush no more than 2 minutes to figure it out. An incredibly observant, attentive, and caring physician who took a sincere interest in my overall health and how it is impacting my orthopedic condition. Dr. Holmes is an excellent listener, took the time, and told me things about my health history that amazed me and how it relates to my body structure, energy, bone health, and active lifestyle.

Dr. Holmes is awesome. I tore my Achilles about 3 months ago. I went to see Dr. Holmes and he advised me to forgo surgery and to instead heal naturally. I spent a month in a cast and 6 weeks in a walking boot. I was very nervous, and I am still in the 6 month period where I can potentially re-tear it, but I’m healing great and my leg is feeling stronger and stronger each day. I am biking, swimming, walking naturally, and feel very optimistic. Dr. Holmes is lighthearted and willing to answer every question thoroughly and honestly, I appreciate this and his unique approach to dealing with this injury (one I have had before on the opposite leg). I came to Dr. Holmes for a second opinion. My previous Dr wanted to redo a surgery. Dr. Holmes. provided me alternatives to hopfully avoid another surgery. He made me feel very comfortable with knowledge.

I would never recommend Dr. Holmes after the way in which he treated me in 2012 and forward. He praised me after every visit for a year or so and then wrote an incorrect prescription for orthotics and refused to speak to me thereafter. I have all the written proof but this man is not to be trusted.

Dr. Holmes is very patient and committed to answering questions and educating on your condition. He put me at ease after one visit - highly recommend.

To keep it short, I literally sent a text to my family group chat saying “I wish all my doctors were like Dr. Holmes”. He was gentle yet precise and truly cared about my well being.

I went to Dr. Holmes for a second opinion after an injury to my left foot/ankle ten weeks earlier. Dr. Holmes did not believe/acknowledge that the pain and swelling that I am having only started after the injury, from which I am still recovering. I have a torn ligament, a healing torn ligament, bone bruising, there was a “subtle” fracture in my foot, a point at which there is still discomfort, and fluid that builds up, from this injury. I have been experiencing numbing and burning in my two smallest toes, which I first noticed within 20 minutes of the injury, my ankle will ache and throb bu the en of the day, depending on how long I have been on it, and that is a boot. I could go on, but at the end of the day I was told it was likely due to my thyroid problem or from when I previously had Lyme disease. What else could I say other than, “okay.” I drove almost two hours to see him for a completely illogical diagnosis. Because he had already decided before he got in the room that there was nothing wrong? I have no idea. He definitely should not get paid for this visit, and if I could deny the claim with my insurance, I would. And finally, why would I go see a rheumatologist for my thyroid. Dr. Holmes is wonderful! He is very thorough, takes the time to make sure you understand the diagnosis and treatment plan, he is also soft spoken and doesn’t talk like he is smarter or better than the patient.

Great doctor

Extremely friendly and knowledgeable. The best “bedside manner” I have encountered.

Very caring about his patients. Providing sound medical advice.

Dr. Holmes was extremely warm, confident, listened well and had a game plan for whichever road I wanted to take in my recovery. I look forward to seeing him again to finish fixing my foot!

I highly recommend Dr. Homes. He is thorough, patient, answers all questions you have, and has a kind/caring demeanor. He Is a skilled surgeon who did a big foot surgery for me. I would highly recommend him to anyone for consult, surgery or remediation on any issues you have.

Dr Holmes talk to me about my case in a calming tone and explained everything in detail. At first I was a little nervous about my ankle injure as CT shows bone fracture. Dr. Holmes send me to take more Xrays and conclude that there is no bone fracture, it's only a bad sprain. About a week later, now I can walk without the boot which shows he's is right. I have been having pain in both feet on and off. I needed answers as I was getting the run around from other doctors. I was recommended to see Dr. Holmes. I had a great experience with Dr. Holmes and his staff. Felt every relax and comfortable. All safety measures in place. Dr. Holmes explained everything and gave great suggestions. I did my research for an foot and ankle orthopedic after suffering an injury at work. Dr. Holmes had great reviews so I booked my apt with him. I have to say, Dr. Holmes and his team make you feel so comfortable! He has great bedside manner and a great sense of humor to lighten the mood. Dr Holmes failed to explain all procedure risks and failed to listen to me post op which resulted in a very serious lifelong condition from a simple surgery. I would never recommend Dr Holmes to even my worst enemy given how he treated me

My experience with Dr. Holmes was a family-friendly experience (no relation). He was very empathic with listening to your concerns, in recovery and follow-ups. He made sure that you healed properly and with good health. I would (and have) recommended him to others.

Due to broken ankle had to see an Orthopedic Surgeon ASAP and I am thankful that Dr. Holmes was able to fit me into his busy schedule as an emergency case. His bedside manner was excellent; he listened to my case attentively; explained in details of my X-ray results requiring a surgery. He and all his staff at Rush Chicago hospital was excellent in preparing me for upcoming surgery plan, which was very thorough, caring, and professional that put me at ease about having the surgery under Dr. Holmes' care. I delayed ankle and tendon surgery for year’s until the pain began to affect my quality of life. I had visited Dr.Holmes previously and finally returned to have the surgery. it was the best decision I made. Dr. Holmes is an excellent surgeon! He has a great bedside manner, listens to your concerns, explains what will occur and makes you feel at ease. He encourages you to ask questions. He is thorough and professional. George Holmes is a world authority on foot orthopedics. I feel he is objective and fair discussing my options with me. My situation is severe enough that my options are limited. While Dr Holmes helped me understand my options for the problem requiring surgery. He did not address options I might have for my less severe issues with my toes that currently do not require surgery. Dr Holmes could have helped me understand how to keep those toes as healthy as possible— but instead he spoke only about the toe that is acutely a problem.

Didn’t respect my time

The visit was great. I felt like Dr. Holmes took time to listen to my concerns and explain everything in detail. The doctor also seemed very knowledgeable about my issue. Highly recommend Dr. Holmes and the team.

Excellent doctor. Brilliant and a lovely bedside manner. He listens well and quickly moves to identifying problems through testing if necessary. He is honest and upfront about whether surgery is a good option and also provides alternatives to surgery. I cannot say enough good things about him. He is exemplary.

It is rare to find a Doctor who listens to the patient, Dr. Holmes listened and explained what he saw. He was very respectful and compassionate. I will be becoming a patient of Dr. Holmes.

Dr Holmes staff was very kind and professional without being cold. There was a bit of a wait but I don’t care at all. To find a doctor who care so much and treats you as though you are the only person in the world is a miracle. Dr Holmes was nothing g short of a miracle for me. He not only addressed my ankle and gave me every conceivable option but he also spoke to my other Heath concerns with intelligence and empathy. I left his office with invaluable information and the feeling that the world isn’t such an awful place after all.

Initial visit was outstanding. Subsequent visits have been increasingly disappointing and have left me over $2K poorer with a foot that hurts in new places, in addition to where/why it hurt when I originally walked in his office. And he now seems very flippant about the whole thing. Completely different bedside manner than the initial consultation.

Dr. Holmes cares about his patients and helps guide them to the correct solution. He works with his patients to ensure they are involved with you medical decisions

He listened carefully to what I had to say. He asked clarifying questions. Instead of making a snap-decision, he said he wanted to review what we discussed and then would get back to me. I appreciated the thoroughness of the course of action.

I can't remember the last time a physician sat down and actually talked to me. Eye to eye, responded to my questions and concerns. I was impressed by his personal and professional skills.

Dr Holmes is thorough and competent

Dr Holmes was very attentive. For the first time in my 38 year history of pains, he suggested the possibility of exploring the root cause of my problem. It is this intellectual curiosity and rigor that distinguishes Healers from business men.

Dr. Holmes listened intently and was kind and caring. He took ample time to explain my condition and a thoughtful course of action. He clearly had my best interest in mind.

Dr. Holmes was extremely personable with both myself and my family on initial consultation!

I have dealt with major medical issues for 40 years. George Holmes, MD, is the finest physician I've ever known. Yale undergrad, Harvard Medical School, 40 years of practice. Director of foot/ankle orthopedics at Rush Medical Center (more highly ranked in that specialty than Northwestern or the University of Chicago). Is also the director of the orthopedic residency program which means he stays up to date on the latest developments in the field. When so many physicians seem not much different than a car mechanic, Holmes stands out as a truly superior physician who has mastered the art and science of his medical specialty. Easy check in process. Very friendly staff. Dr Holmes was knowledgeable and reassuring about my diagnosis prognosis. He is very interesting and easy to talk to.

I was looking for an expert as I have an issue with my feet for over half a year. I learned of Rush Orthopedic and learned about the foot and ankle group and Dr Holmes. The entire process from my initial interaction with Oak Park office that referred me to the registration and finally the appointment was first class professionalism. Dr Holmes has an incredible personable style that you usually don’t find with docs of his background and tenure in the field. It was like talking to a friend.

I choose Midwest Orthpedics because my niece was a medical research student with them. I choose Dr. Holmes because of his reputation as a surgeon. Dr. Holmes had a subtle way of making me feel calm and confident in my recovery. His compassion, professionalism, humble sense of humor, and positive attitude helped to kept me strong throughout my recovery. He is a very skilled surgeon. I had surgery at the end of December and it is healing beautifully. I also like that he has a good sense of humor and is easy to talk to. I live three hours from Rush and it was worth the drive to see him. His PA Brittany is wonderful too.

Although I can not speak from personal experience regarding Dr Holmes skills as a surgeon, I can speak as a patient who has seen him for many years. He is straight foreword, honest and delivers his message with compassion and a sense of humor. He listens and I trust his judgment regarding my on going challenges. His staff are also professional and very helpful.

The best surgeon in Chicago hands down! Always extremely compassionate, knowledgeable, and his best quality in my opinion, he tells you like it is. When I asked for his opinion, he never hesitated to give it to me. I would ALWAYS recommend him to anyone I know. I received the VERY BEST care from him and his whole team!!!

After my car accident the doctors at Ingalls wouldn't touch my ankle so I was transferred to Rush where Dr. Holmes took it on. Thanks to him I didn't lose my foot and can still walk.

It's sad to see such a low rating for such a great surgeon based on wait times and cancellations. His work, knowledge, and overall demeanor is on a whole other level of professional. He's an amazing doctor and an even better person. I broke my fibula a little over a month ago and like anyone else would I absolutely hated that fact but Dr. Holmes, his P.A. I saw Fr Holmes recently after having 2 surgeries over 18 mon ago, & still having pain. Dr Holmes thoroughly explained my likely condition & treatment options, & was so concerned about the distance I drove in for my appointment with him that he referred me to noted colleague of his whose practice is much closer to me ( though I’d rather he treat me.). A friend had very difficult foot problems, & after surgery by Dr. Holmes is doing very well. I highly recommend him.

Went in for ankle and foot pain and Dr. Holmes was so nice and explained to me what was going on with my ankle. I would definitely recommend him to others.

Dr. Holmes is personable and you can feel that he cares. I went to his office absolutely convinced that I needed bunion surgery. After examining me he advised that I did not need bunion surgery. And that while he certainly could treat my bunions they weren't to the point where I needed surgery. He explained that the surgery would cause me more pain during recovery then I encounter occasionally from the actual condition. I appreciate greatly his honesty and integrity!

Wasted 6 months of my time and money, in constant pain with my ankle/foot and NO decisions made, no action taken by this doctor....got 2 more opinions then, each with instantaneous "absolutely needs surgery" diagnosis....STILL in disbelief as to wth happened at Rush, will never understand it....

Came in with pain in my ankle. Scheduling was able to squeeze me in. Many thanks for quick response to get appointment. Dr Holmes was able to access the problem ordered X-ray and needed MRI. Followed up 3 days later and was thoughtful in explaining my options. Excellent bedside manner made me feel very comfortable.

I would highly recommend Dr. Holmes. He’s conservative and on spot with what was wrong with my foot after 5 months of trying to find out with other doctors all telling me nothing was wrong
