Dr. Gary Starkman

I made an appointment in august, first available was today, october 9. I called a few hours in advance to make sure that my insurance company would cover the injections for pain that I was scheduled for. Well, the front desk told me I was on a "wait list" as there had not been approval from my insurance company. I was angry so I called the insurance company to find that they could not possibly approve what had not been submitted. Dr Starkman's office had 2 months to submit the paperwork but did not. They also did not call to tell me not to come in. They communicated nothing. Not with the insurance company and not with me. I waited 2 months in pain for relief and got nothing. Certainly no respect for my time or discomfort, and no communication of any kind. I have worked with the public in customer service most of my (long) life, and this is terrible customer service any way you look at it. Forewarned is forearmed. Good luck. The best neurologist there is. Takes time with his patients, I never felt rushed. He has a great attention to detail. The staff in the upper west side office is incredible. Very helpful and nice. Highly recommend!!!

My experiences with Dr. Starkman’s office over the last several years have been ones of professional excellence. The only hiccup has been the reception desk employees, long before COVID-19. They had an excellent front desk team who worked together efficiently. When a major health crisis caused the loss of a crucial member, the remaining staff were overloaded. It became very stressful for them, causing deep frustration with both patients and fellow staff. It’s no longer an issue, as a new rhythm has been settled into. They have also handled COVID with excellency handling remote visits when possible and in-person appointments with their upmost attention to patient safety. The care I've received has always been focused on my current needs. The few times I've needed to reschedule a visit I always able to do so fairly quickly.

This is a great group of Doctors that do their best to understand the needs of their patients.

My first appointment with Dr. Starkman was thorough, he was pleasant and easy to talk to.He was also a gentleman. Most doctors when you go to see them and they want you to go to another room they generally say follow me. However, Dr. Starkman opened the door for me, and lead me to where he wanted me to go AND made sure I was comfortable before giving instructions to the technician. The front office staff were pleasant, but not too attentive to requests from me, the patient. I'm still waiting on some information I requested on Monday, October 29th. I was promised it would be sent to me on that day. Today is Wednesday, October 31st, I haven't received it yet. I was in pain, I had to crawl, I slowly walked along the wall, And that is what I had to cope with, Until I reached the Doctor’s office! He promptly took away my pain, I felt like I am young again, It felt so good, it felt superb, When I came out, “I jumped the curb”! Dr. Kokoszka was very caring, patient and helpful. She ordered appropriate tests and I was given a diagnosis along with a plan for taking care of my lower back pain. I'm feeling so much better! I highly recommend her.
