Dr. Frederick Alexander

In September of 2020 my son went to Valley Hospital in Ridgewood for an emergency appendectomy. Dr Alexander was the surgeon on duty. All went well - my benefits covered their portion of what appeared to be the bill for the procedure, till January 2021 when we received an additional bill for $17176.77! After speaking to our Blue Cross Blue Shield representative and Dr Alexander's billing department I was told that this is called "balance billing". Now the way I see it, Valley Hospital is an in-network provider, so a surgeon on duty, especially for a procedure that is not elective, such as an appendectomy, is in-network as well. BC/BS would not cover any more of the bill, threw us under the bus, and Dr Alexander's office would not accept my offer to pay $1000.00 and put the matter to rest. I have had numerous conversations with Dr Alexander's office, each time making it clear that they will never get $17176.77 out of my pocket. And that is where we stand. I will alert the media!

Would never use again not upfront about billing

Our family has all had hernias in childhood and I've seen it treated over the years. Dr. Alexander introduced us to a new level of skill and experience, giving our child a very fast recovery (he was completely back to himself a few hours later). It was really reassuring to know every step he took was reinforced by years of experience and having done the procedure thousands of times. He also has a fantastic rapport with parents throughout all the stages, from the initial consultation, to the pre-surgery, even having someone assure us things were going well during the actual surgery.

My son had his first inguinal hernia repaired by Dr. Alexander when he was 3 years old and the second one recently in August 2020 (he was near 6 years old). I can’t say in words what a professionalism, devotion, care, Dr. Alexander has proved. He also has a calmness and a way of approaching his patients, like very rare you can find. I felt that my son was in the safest hands possible with each one of these procedures. His staff, Karen and Jennifer as nice as can be as well. My son didn’t have any anxiety at all going through the surgeries. He is usually picky when it comes to people. He, somehow, connected with his surgeon and trusted him and it made everything so smooth. If they see this message, just sending million, endless gratitude and wish them health! Recommend Dr. Alexander without a single doubt!

Dr. Alexander is the kindest doctor anyone could hope to find in a moment of need. He did surgery on my baby daughter eyebrow to remove a cyst when She was 8 months. As nervous as I was that was piece of cake. Fast forward 11 years. My 9 years old had a bad ruptured appendix. After recurring infections and in desperate need of help, Dr. Alexander and his wonderful office team helped me figure it out a way to treat my son. His calm and professionalism makes your worst nightmare feel easier. My family will be eternally grateful to his kindness, patience, skills, outstanding bedside manners and so on. My son loves him. Thank you Dr. Alexander for helping kids and families. I wish you could teach a course in college: the art of treating people with kindness and respect. My guy healed perfectly thanks to your persistence.

My 2 yr old son, was born with a multicystic dysplastic kidney, which left him with only one functioning kidney. This "bad" kidney started causing pain making him very uncomfortable. We went and saw Dr Alexander and he was AMAZING! Ended up doing surgery and removing his kidney a few days later. He was able to explain and answer EVERY one of my questions before and after the surgery. I thank god my son was in good hands. Very happy with this dr and his staff. This is def your go-to dr!

One of a kind physician with impeccable surgical skills and uncanny bedside manner . Systematic , cares enough to explain every step of the process , yet makes quick decisions when necessary . We were lucky that he was on call when we were at Valley ER . He practically saved my daughter ‘s life .

Dr Alexander is not only an intelligent & more than competent surgeon, he is a wonderful, compassionate & caring physician. He has superior skills in working with children of all ages. He treated my 16 year old daughter with respect & spoke directly to her & us as human beings. We were worried until we got to know his staff both pre & post surgery & I have never met such a group of professional, competent nurses & staff. 14 years ago on March 19th God put the most wonderful Doctor in the operating room with my daughter Dr Frederick Alexander. When we first met Dr Alexander he came into the room and introduced his selfish to my daughter and asking her questions. That impressed me the most and let me know I could trust my daughter's life in his hands. My daughter had a Fibro nodular Hyperplasia tumor Dr Alexander removed this tumor. I don't know where my daughter would be if it wasn't for Dr Frederick Alexander.

Dr Alexander did surgery on my daughter to correct a midgut volvulus that was the result of intestinal malrotation. He was an amazingly skilled surgeon and also a very kind person. He was great with my young daughter, who was usually scared of Drs, and her surgery went even better than we thought it would. He also thoroughly explained everything to me on several occasions which was very much appreciated as I had never heard of her condition before!

Dr. Alexander performed emergency surgery on my 9 year old Daughter. She needed her appendix removed. Dr. Alexander was referred to us as the best surgeon to serve our area. I can tell you that he did not disappoint. I high recommend him for all your surgical needs. He calmed two worried parents down and assured us that everything would be okay. We were met at HUMC by his resident Doctor and he had excellent mannerism. This is just a reflection of what is expected by Dr. Alexander. A+++

My 3 yo son had a thyroglossal cyst. Fortunately when we were sent to the hospital Dr. Frederick Alexander was there. He was kind and reassuring before the surgery and made my husband my son & I feel comfortable having the surgery done. He did a wonderful job my son barely has a scar. Come to find out He is not in network for our insurance and his office worked things out with my insurance company so that we did not owe them a lot of money. I couldn't be happier with our experience.
