Dr. Franklin Hayward II

Dr. Hayward is a great neurosurgeon! He listens well and explains things thoroughly and understandably. Very personable! I am so appreciative of his surgical skills! I have suffered with severe lower back pain and sciatic pain down both legs for nearly two years. The problem is fixed!! During surgery I had an unexpected high level of pain and discomfort and Dr. Hayward went to extra effort to electronically test for nerve damage while I was “on the table” and fortunately none was found. My nerves had just been irritated for too long. All the pain from prior to surgery is gone. I am two months post surgery and still healing and building my atrophied back muscles. Dr. Hayward is also a recipient of back surgery for pain and he “gets it!” I highly recommend him!

Very through and knowledgeable. Talked to you like family. You can tell he is a very caring doctor.

In the handful of visits plus my surgery with Dr. Hayward II I am beyond impressed and blown away. Not only did I have ZERO pain from surgery itself but I have also had no pain afterward in the last six weeks post op. I am so thankful for this surgeon and this surgery. He’s not only a great doctor, but a great person-he speaks to the patient as a human. That’s a huge plus in my experience. I’ve had more than four surgeries in my life so I’m speaking from a bit of experience here when I say he’s the real deal. You want him.

I have had 2 spinal fusions with Dr. Hayward and both were flawless. Him and his staff pinpointed the problem area first and then fixed the problem area only. They were very patient oriented, listening to my every complaint very carefully and doing everything they could to make me comfortable and pain free. I would refer Dr. Hayward to anyone with spinal issues to have them taken care of. Him and his staff are very caring and always put the patient and their needs first.

I unfortunately messed up a disk in my neck roughly a year and a half ago. This was my first experience with a surgery like this. I am glad I chose Dr Hayward. He and his staff are extremely professional and have a great bedside manner that makes you feel at ease. I’d recommend Dr Hayward and his team to anyone.

When I was referred to Dr.Hayward for my back I was in constant pain, had drop foot and needed a 3 level back surgery. He is an incredibly nice and an outstanding Neurosurgeon. I would recommend him highly to anyone that wants an a outstanding doctor with a caring heart. He has truly been a blessing to me.

Dr. Hayward is the best. He is intelligent and compassionate. He has the art of listening to his patients mastered. This gentleman has served his country with honor, retiring as a naval commander. You will not find a more competent physician anywhere. His staff, taking his lead are all kind to the patients.

Dr. Hayward performed my mom's back surgery in 2015. Everyone we took we took her to said they couldn't help her. After he evaluated her radiology reports, he said he would definitely be able to help her. She is now pain free in her lower back. We drive from Tennessee to see him. So thankful we found him!

I was referred to Dr Hayward by another physician. I was told that he and his PA Chris were the best. Well after my appointment today I would have to agree. From the moment Kellie(nurse) called my name I felt like I was with a team that cared about my well being. Kellie was very thorough with getting all my correct medical information and listening to what I have been dealing with for the past 2 years. Then when Chris came into the room a and did my examine I felt a weight lifted off my shoulders. Finally, a doctor who cares about my well being and wanted to see my recover from my injury so I can once again live my life. Was very patient, thorough and explained things well.

My first experience with Doctor Franklin Hayward was great. He is so kind and the nicest doctor I have ever been to. He treats you like family and his first option isn't surgery. He explained everything to me so that I could understand it. He sent me to the Pain Management clinic for further treatment. He takes the time to talk with you if you have questions and before he left the exam room he asked me if I had any further questions. Dr. Hayward's staff is so friendly and his nurse, Kelly, is a jewel. I didn't get to meet his PA, Chris, but I'm sure he's just as nice as the rest of the staff. I give Dr. Hayward a perfect score of 10! He is awesome and very friendly and compassionate with my pain level in the lower back. Dr. Hayward fixed my problem and now I can walk with no pain. I cant thank him enough for the wonderful job he did. Plus his staff is very kind to me and Kelly his assistant also made me feel so comfortable and I knew I was in good hands with them. Excellent doctor

Dr. Hayward performed brain surgery on me after my fall and I had a brain bleed. I have had no problems since the surgery and highly recommend anyone who needs brain surgery to see Dr. Hayward. Thanks for giving me a second chance at life and time with my family.

He is absolutely the best neurosurgeon I've had the privilege of meeting and he operated on me in 2015 and did an excellent job !!!! That's why I came back to him in 2020...completely different back issue. I would refer everyone to him. Great Dr. and person.

He’s not only a great doctor, he is a great person. On my very first visit he made it clear I was not just another number on a list of patients, he evaluated my back problem and took the extra effort going above and beyond to make sure I were taken care of, making sure I didn’t have to wait to get my pain under control as well as fixing my problem, squeezed me into his tight schedule making sure I didn’t have to wait until things escalated or until it was more convenient for him. He made sure I felt as the most important patient and that is something hard to find nowadays. He is loyal to the cause, helping people. He listened and cared.

I recently had neck surgery and have had a great experience with Dr. Hayward. My surgery went very well, I am now pain free and recovering nicely. I appreciate Dr. Hayward's knowledge, skill and kindness to me throughout this process.

I have heard many good things about Dr. Hayward from my pain doctor Dr. Tyler Ptacek. Therefore meeting him was a privilege and a great joy. I need a good doctor like him. He was very nice very thorough and very informative. I hope to see him again in the future.

My visit today was exceptional again. I was treated quickly and all of the staff, including the nurse, PA and clerk, were very caring. It is my understanding that Dr. Hayward is a retired Navy Commander. He has the bearing and strength that would reflect that experience. He is the most competent, compassionate neurosurgeon I have seen. Everything is explained in detail and he LISTENS even when he has a heavy work load waiting... Everyone gets the time needed from this physician.. He welcomes questions and is not offended when you want further explanation. This physician has integrity and is above the fray you find in offices where there is a high level of competitiveness... it is obvious that the dollar is not his GOD. Dr. Hayward is one of the best doctors I've ever had. I couldn't had asked for anyone better than him to care for me during my stay at SFMC for my brain injury. I've never had a doctor with such top notch bedside manners, medical knowledge and care for their patients like he does. I'd highly recommend him to others!

I have seen Dr Hayward and his staff for almost a year now, they are all supper nice!! Dr Hayward will listen to what issues you are having and work with you on a plan. He did not push for surgery on me, when I was ready and we had worked through all other options, I (with his opinion) made the decision to have surgery. If you want a doctor that will listen to you and wish with you, Dr Hayward is the doctor for you!!

Dr. Hayward is caring, excellent surgeon. I have had success with both back and SI joint surgery. He takes very good care of his patients, He is knowledgeable and up on newest technologies. He also knows if something is out of his scope of practice he will refer you to the proper practitions.

Dr Hayward Franklin did surgery on my husbands back around 10 years ago. It took for ever for him to get out of surgery. When he then talked to me after the surgery he told me he drilled into Gary’s spine. He was in so much pain it was unreal. The doctor came in one time which was 2 days later to see him at the hospital. When we had our next appointment he showed us the exrays and told us his bones were to small so he only put one rod in. We new nothing about back surgeries so we believed him 2 months later Gary had a heartatack. He was in so much pain I had to bathe feed walk him to the bathroom in his walker he stayed in bed for 3 months. Every visit we had Hayward said his bones were growing then when Gary could not quit hurting he wanted to put a pain stimulater in it him. I guess he was going to leave him to die. Finally I told Gary there is something bad wrong with you. He cried every day could not go anywhere he would ask God please help me. He had to sleep on the couch. So I made a appointment with a different doctor in cape . Told him the story Hayward told us by looking at the exrays we brought him the story we were told is not true He said u never do back surgery with one rod. His bones are not to small and even if they were we have smaller screws. Also he said he put the spacers in the wrong place I will hAve to cut gAry through the front to fix that but also through the back to take out what Hayward did and put 2 rods in. He said we can not fix spinal injury when he drilled into Gary’s spine it is permanent nerve damage. Had the surgery with another doctor at cape but the nerve damage is forever. Gary is so bad he hurts every second of every day. He can not ride for very long. He can not stand for very long. He cannot walk for very long. He can not sit in a chair very long. He cannot sleep for very long because the pain wakes him up every few hours. He still ask Jesus please help me He gets headaches a lot. Then he had another heartatack. He still has 50 percent blockage. He had never had to go to a doctor. He never even ever took a aspirin. Our lives are for ever changed. Gary worked every day of his life. He can not work now. Gary can not do the things he loved to do like hunting. Doing things with our grandchildren. I can’t even lay near him because it hurts him more . Gary is 62 now. This happened in his early 50s. Because he cannot work we had to take our new truck back to the dealership. We had to take a loss on our camper that he traveled in for his job and sell it. Our pump house is about to fall over but we do not have the money to fix it. Our pump will freeze inside and we won’t have water for days. Our electric is messed up and a lot of our lights in the house do not work any more . Our air conditioning tore up our heating system tore up we heat our house with 4 heaters . It gets cold our dryer tore up. Our car tore up. I am not asking you to feel sorry for us. Much more is falling apart in our home and outside. We always had the money to keep things going. This has completely changed our world. We get behind on our bills. Gary feels like a failer because he cannot provide for us like he always has. We qualify for no free help. Yes this is no lie. We own our home even though we owe $42,000. Our car is paid off which is a 1990. Most of our friends have distance themselves from us. Gary use to have his coon hunting buddies ring his phone off the hook. Not one ever calls now. Our Christian friends tell us if we had enough faith Gary would be healed. I also had them tell me Gary or I have done something wrong or this wouldn’t of happened. No one comes to see us and no one offers to help. Gary has one friend that sees him and helps us from time to time. We are very thankful. We have always served God the best to our ability. A lot people say you’re a strong Christian you should be able to handle this. Well that’s not always true. Even strong people hurt. I ask Hayward if he was a Christian in the beginning. My experiance with Dr. Hayward was exceptional. From the first visit with Mike Barnes to the receptionists and nurses. Dr.. Hayward diagnosed my problem where all other surgeons wanted to treat the symptoms. Very good at explaining exactly what was going to be done in surgery. He and his staff are very professional. I had been in severe pain for a long time and was diagnosed by another doctor with vertebrate deterioration. The doctor suggested I should have back surgery to correct it. I went to Dr. Hayward for a second opinion, and after a mri, he informed me the problem was not my back at all, but my hip. I had a hip replacement and have had very little problems with my back and minimal pain. He is a very knowledgeable Christian man.

Dr Hayward did back surgery on my daughter. We have been very pleased with the results. She had previously had surgery for the same problem and got no relief from the pain. My daughter and I would highly recommend him to our family and friends. He is a Godly man and we so appreciated him. Mike and the rest of his staff at the cape and Marion offices were great. Was labeled a 'drug seeker' 2 months after surgery when I couldn't stand or walk. Was diagnosed THE NEXT DAY with staph infection on the very vertebrae that was operated on. This resulted in a full year of antibiotics and 2 PICC lines with different complications. To top it all off, my spouse was told that the infection was my fault. My spouse was told that he (Dr. Hayward) 'ran out of time' during my surgery. Condition is worse now (2years) than it was prior to surgery. NO REFERRALLS

All staff has been exceptional. All staff have explained things very well from the procedure to scheduling. I have not ever had better treatment and care.

Beat customer service. Always have the answers. Dr Hayward I would recommend to anyone. Very polite.
