Dr. Shu is one of the best Neurologists I have seen and that's saying something. She has great bedside manner, she is very thorough, and always has multiple approaches. She is also willing to go the extra mile to make sure insurance covers necessary treatments. Without her care, I would be much worse off. I am blown away by some of these reviews as they don't reflect Dr. Shu in the slightest. She quickly climbed the totem poll and is very well recognized for her achievements over the past few years.

facing a life-threatening situation, Dr Shu couldn't have been much less helpful. Maybe she is a good doctor, I don't know. What I do know is that her neglect made a terrible situation even worse. I was forced to go elsewhere for help and got it immediately.

Dr. Shu ordered a large number of tests but did not advise me how many tests she was ordering or how much they would cost. Then I received a bill for lab tests that was about $4500! Even after insurance, the tests total more than $1700. I have never had a doctor at UCLA or anywhere else order that many tests or fail to warn me about matters that might be expensive. Nor have any lab tests I've had in the past even remotely cost so much. Unless you are a lottery winner, you should stay clear of this doctor. All the more so since her medical counsel did not help me improve my condition.

Lacks compassion, always late (>1 hour), and not knowledgeable about POTS. I did not feel like she really listened, and I felt like she was judging me for all of my symptoms. I question her knowledge about dysautonomia, because what she told me contradicts a lot of the information you can find on Dysautonomia International (which I think is a trustworthy source). As of early 2020, the fellow she was training was incompetent. He was the kind of person who looks at your labs, says you're fine, and that you just need to see a psychologist. If you're looking for a POTS doctor, I encourage you to keep searching.

The worst communicator I've ever encountered w/ a sh*t attitude to boot. I can't believe UCLA hired this person let alone passed any interview.

I went to visit Dr. Shu who was such a warm and caring doctor, and she had a great sense of humor! My chest pain resolved 30 minutes after I took the medication prescribed by Dr. Shu. She made me feel like she's my friend. I would love to say she's the kindest doctor I have ever met! Thank you, Dr. Shu, so very much for all your kind efforts. I really highly appreciate you!

I don't usually write reviews. But my recent visit to Dr. Shu was so pleasantly satisfying I need to write one. As a homemaker mom, I had no idea how EMG worked and I asked Dr. Shu many questions about it. Dr. Shu always patiently answered my questions, never holding back any details and was never condescending. The experience was almost educational, and I felt that extra knowledge gained was already beyond what I went there for. Later on we had to do a skin biopsy procedure. Once again Dr. Shu was very attentive to the details every step of the way. I'm typically quite inquisitive and it took much longer time than scheduled, but Dr. Shu never made me feel rushed. Later on I realized that Dr. Shu had to postpone her other appointments because of me, and I felt sorry. I’ve seen countless physicians in the U.S. While most have nice demeanor, you can tell it’s quite formulaic and mechanical. (Esp optometrist and family cares, anyone?) Dr. Shu is different. Young, vibrant, encouraging, and caring in a genuine way, she is such a joy in the midst of my muscle pain. Dr. Shu made me realize that a physician can be so much more than merely treating the disease. Unfortunately, most physicians in the U.S. are not like that.

Have seen Dr. Shu for two years. She has tested me thoughly. Explains the test results and retests conductivity tests for disease progression. She is hopeful for my improvements. Has proscribed ivig. She believes that healing is a Devine miricle that she involves herself in assisting.

No bedside manner and treated me like a robot. She gave No explanation. Only apologized after seeing me cried from one of the needles that she poked (without any warning) during an EMG. I had blood at 2 different places on my arm from the needles that she poked. She didn't even see it until I pointed out to her. Today, I still have a bruise from the EMG that she performed 11 days ago....seriously. Had I visited this website before seeing her, I would have canceled my appointment.

She was not prepared. She did not do a thorough analysis. She gave me a bogus diagnosis based on nothing. She was hostile when I asked questions.
