About Evan Collins
Reviews for Evan Collins
I went to Dr. Collins for an evaluation of an overuse injury in my hand after hearing great things about him from others. I did not feel that he listened empathetically at all. He minimized my pain and concerns and told me to "just build strength" (didn't prescribe or suggest PT/OT or any specific exercises) without performing diagnostic tests to find the tendonitis that was present (which I found out from a different doctor). Even if his vague suggestion was sincere, the manner of delivery and terrible bedside manner (getting way up in my face, dismissiveness) was unacceptable. The final insult was the brusque "you can choose a candy from the jar" which, after all that had happened, felt extremely belittling. I left feeling demeaned, unheard, and that I'd wasted my time and money. No matter how skilled of a surgeon you are, if you can't treat all of your vulnerable patients with respect, empathy, and basic kindness, then you're not a good doctor.
Took me longer to get to the doctor’s office (got lost in the parking garage elevator) Got to my appointment on time and waited about 30 minutes to see Dr Collins. His staff is very professional and friendly Dr Collins took enough time answering my questions and less than a minute to take care of my trigger thumb , I will recommend this place Took me longer to get to the doctor’s office (got lost in the parking garage elevator) Got to my appointment on time and waited about 30 minutes to see Dr Collins. I adore this doctor and his staff, kind professional and most of knowledgeable. So appreciated
Called his office on a Friday after having a bad experience elsewhere. Got in early Monday morning and had surgery scheduled for that Thursday. Staff was great, he was great, and the surgery went better than I thought it would.
I arrived at Dr Collins office this morning, the Receptionist reassured me, told me he had coffee, I was in a great deal of pain. For over a year thinking how in the world do I get better.. Dr Collins came in and told me I have Arthritis, clearly not a good case- as I wanted to get relief and said yes let’s do this he was very calm and talking to me be for I knew it I had a shot in the effected area- then repeat! For both thumbs! I’m already feeling better range of motion has increased! His assistant was wonderful, as they see you on your Worst day! Not fun for pain to dictate your life!! Thank you Dr Collins and your amazing Assistant, you made me feel welcome and reassured I arrived at Dr Collins office this morning, the Receptionist reassured me, told me he had coffee, I was in a great deal of pain. Dr. Collins is super nice and concerned, all the staff are wonderful, I would recommend him to everyone
I decided to see Dr. Collins after suffering a deep laceration that caused tendon and nerve damage and also affected the PIP joint in my finger. After looking at my finger and reviewing the x-ray Dr. Collins diagnosed that I needed reconstructive surgery on the PIP joint in my finger. Dr. Collins wanted 2 to 3 months of physical therapy before the surgery. I had 2 months of physical therapy and pushed my finger to the limit. Actually, after the 1st month the physical therapist would not allow me to push my finger any further than necessary and stated; "It would actually cause more harm than good and the, only, next step is reconstructive surgery on the PIP joint." When I did try and push my finger further the circulation would cut off. The physical therapist was right that pushing my finger any further was going to cause more harm than good. I was also informed by the physical therapist that Dr. Collins does not listen to the physical therapist's advise nor the patients. Considering this was suppose to be a coordinated team effort between the doctor, physical therapist and patient this information was truly disturbing. Since Dr. Collins and the physical therapist work directly across the hallway from each other this was an utter lack of communication for the very best interest of the patient. (Let me state clearly, that the physical therapist agreed that I must have reconstructive surgery.) Well, the physical therapist's statement became abundantly clear on my 3rd appointment with Dr. Collins. Dr. Collins walked into the room abruptly and bluntly stated; "Go get a second opinion." Dr. Collins did not say; Good Morning How Are You? How Is Your Finger Feeling? Nothing except a complete 180° statement from 3 months ago. As the patient this was extremely shocking and obviously I felt that the overall health and well-being of my finger was not a priority. Then Dr. Collins stated; "I want another 6 to 9 months of continued physical therapy on your finger." That is a complete oxymoron! Which Is It??? 1) Go get a second opinion. 2) Another 6 to 9 months of physical therapy. Plus, what insurance company would approve continued physical therapy on a finger that would add up to a total of 8 to 11 months? Once again, the physical therapist does not agree with Dr. Collins and believes further therapy would only cause more harm the good. Dr. Collins tried to come up with every excuse for me to deal with the end result after the physical therapy and why he would not perform reconstructive surgery on my finger. It Was Excuses - Nothing More Than Excuses Personally, it sounded like a true lack of confidence in his own abilities. On all 3 appointments Dr. Collins did not spend more than 10 minutes with me. He and his staff are too busy handing out the candy basket. That is just a psychological ploy to ease the patient(s). As the patient, I put my faith and trust in Dr. Collins but all I have done is waste the last 3 months. I take full responsibility for my lack in judgment. More Importantly, I find it totally disgraceful that Dr. Collins promotes himself on the website "overview" with all his degrees, awards, magazine covers, internationally renowned, being a professional athlete specialist, etc., but he is unable to perform reconstructive surgery on a PIP joint. I guess if I was a professional athlete things would have tuned out differently. It is a shame that Dr. Collins did not have the common decency and respect to be upfront and honest with me from the very 1st appointment. Finally, Yes, I have received a second opinion from an Orthopedic (Hand) Surgeon and I absolutely need reconstructive surgery on the PIP joint. Thankfully, I will receive the ultimate care I so rightfully deserve. Regarding the stars for this review. I wish I could leave zero but 1 star, solely, is based on the physical therapist being open and honest with me. Any response from Dr. Collins or Methodist Hospital is 100% superfluous!!! I decided to see Dr. Collins after suffering a deep laceration that caused tendon and nerve damage and also affected the PIP joint in my finger. … More

Dr. Evans was absolutely awesome! You will really appreciate him talking with you ! The staff was amazing and most important they were friendly...
Dr. Collins told me to "return to normal" activity after surgery -- and confirmed when I asked "no PT?" On a subsequent visit he told me I had probably damaged it by "pushing it too fast!" Terrible advice, terrible outcome. I'm about to have a second surgery (elsewhere), to correct the mess he made. Don't listen to the "praise" from his fraternity of physician friends. PLEASE get a 2nd opinion before you let Dr. Collins do anything invasive!
Rudest doctor ever! Gave me attitude because I asked questions to try and understand what could be wrong with my hand. He talked the whole 15 minutes instead of letting me upload my MRI images to my email for him to examine. Told me that he doesn't know why I'm having pain or trouble twisting off things and seemed to not care. He stormed out the room with an attitude. Both him and his assistant Crystal continued to talk about me and how I wasted their precious 15 minutes as my door was left open. I walked out very surprised on how I was treated and how they continued to talk about how stupid I was for not bringing MRI images as I was standing behind them. Overall rudeness and attitude was very uncalled for. Rudest doctor ever! Gave me attitude because I asked questions to try and understand what could be wrong with my hand. I've gone to Dr Collins for carpal tunnel release surgery on both of my hands and to consult regarding a rotator cuff problem, with superb results in every case. I HIGHLY recommend Dr. Collins!
I am a seasoned Family Physician and I chose Evan D Collins MD to handle my medical condition. He was personable, practical, on-time, explaining diagnoses and potential treatments. I went in expecting surgery and instead was given practical advice. I was pleasantly surprised that he did not rush to surgery, and his recommendations took care of my problem. I respect his clinical acumen.
Wonderful surgeon and great staff
He is so nice and very detailed..the whole Methodist was very satisfactory everyone is smiling and making sure the surgery experience is a pleasant one ❤️
Awesome visit! He listened to my concerns, addressed them and educated me on my condition. Very helpful even a few days after the visit when I had, what I thought was a reaction to the injection. He was able to see me and reassure me of my concerns. And his assistant Crystal is so kind and helpful!
First off the office staff are very welcoming! Dr Evans is awesome... takes time to listen and appears genuinely concerned. Explained my condition in detail. I suffer from RA and have trigger fingers in the past and have had to get an injection which is never pleasant but Dr Evans was smooth and calculated having me focus on our conversation I only flinched with minor pain. I can definitely recommend him to friends and family!!
Dr. Evan Collins repaired my previously inoperable elbow with fantastic results. Dr. Collins removing multiple bone chips has allowed me many years of fully functional use, after my arm having been only partly functional for most of the first 40 years of my life.
Dr. Collins took his time to explain my condition, the treatment he suggested and answer my questions. He has a wonderful bedside manner and his staff were very friendly and welcoming. I appreciate being seen within minutes of my appointment time. I like the fact that surgery was not his first option and the treatment he administered has already began working on my condition.
This doctor is the best example of why a patient should walk out. He is arrogant which is okay, but what is not okay is his lack of confidence in his diagnosis. First, he explained that my carpal tunnel would be an easy surgery and so I too felt confident. However...he then sent me for a nerve test and his diagnosis was a complete 180. He said surgery might or might not fix the problem, he had no way of knowing the outcome... the surgery was up to me. Obviously he was covering himself whether the surgery went well or if it did not. I left and found another physician who didn't tell me what I wanted to hear nor did he sit on the middle of the fence. His diagnosis was realistic. My hand is good as new. In my opinion Dr. Collins is a phony... an overrated phony. This doctor is the best example of why a patient should walk out. Fantastic doctor! Cares about his patients.
BEST ARM AND HAND ORTHOPEDIC DOCTOR AND STAFF EVER!!! Dr. Collins has taken such good care of me. My elbow was shattered, and ulna and radius was broken back in Feb. 2014. Dr. Collins was the only orthopedic surgeon that would take my case. He is very professional, caring, knowledgable, happy, upbeat, and outgoing. I have since broken my arm again, and he has once again taken my case. He even took a middle of the night call, and he was just as professional at 2 am, as he is during his regular business hours. He told me at 2 am to be in his office this morning, and I went, and once again they took very good care of me. Joe changed my cast, and Dr. Collins gave me some better meds for pain control. Dr. Collins and his whole staff are #1 in my book. I wouldn't dream of going anywhere else. BEST ARM AND HAND ORTHOPEDIC DOCTOR AND STAFF EVER!!! Dr. Collins has taken such good care of me. Pretty much told me there was nothing to be done about my elbow but to take pain meds. Got another opinion from Dr mehlhoff and ended up getting arthroscopic surgery and already my elbow is better than it was and I still have a few more weeks of recovery. The staff was also extremely unhelpful when my mri disc was left in their computer and they said they would send it to me and I never received it. Had to go get a new copy. Best dr ever! Love him!
Dr. Collins is a great surgeon and a terrific doctor. He put my arm back together after I fell and broke it. He is professional, smart, funny and very skilled!
Low compassion and poor communication. Hope to never see him again.
I've been a patient of Dr. Collins for 10 years and have been completely satisfied with his staff as well as Dr. Collins. I've had several surgeries due to carpal tunnel, trigger finger and both elbows for tennis elbow that I'm glad I had done that allows me to be pain free now. He is such a caring Doctor and does great work and I most definitely recommend him.
Had ulnar nerve decompression. Surgery was unsuccessful and cause tendon tears. Went to another doctor, had an mri that confirmed the damage. Doctor denys it, acts ugly, raises his voice, and bukkys my wife and i out of his office. He also lied on office records stating that he offered none surgical options and he did not. He said surgery was the only way. Please note when you visit that he will not let you talk so you can imagine if things dont go well. Dr. Collins is a bully.
Never again. I went to Dr Collins Pearland office 1 year ago and told me there was nothing wrong my hand that it was Tendonitis.
Best orthopedic surgeon in Texas!!!
Dr Collins is amazing! Listened to what I had to say and we came up with the plan to treat my carpul tunnel!! If I ever have issues with my arms this is the ONLY Dr I would use. He treated me several years ago, but since then has treated my mother, sister and several coworkers.
I cannot rave enough about this doctor!!!! He is the nicest doctor ever!!! He has gone above and beyond to accommodate my situation and schedule. I too, am in the medical field, so being extremely busy myself, and dealing with medical professionals all the time, I can honestly say, this is one of the nicest doctors I have ever dealt with. He is constantly smiling and always interacting with his patients. He is very meticulous with his work and knowledgeable! I felt very comfortable and secure with him doing my hand surgery. All went well and I cannot be more pleased!! I would highly recommend this doctor and his staff! All of them have been so pleasant and they really do treat you like family! I especially enjoyed the cast RN Joe and OT Ricardo. They took such great care of me and my injury and really put me at ease at every appointment! I will refer this doctor to everyone including my own family! My experience surpassed five stars!!!!! Thank you from the bottom of my heart! Furthermore, for the bad review written by J. Lindsey, I cannot imagine how you had a bad experience at this practice. With most doctors visits come a wait, my wait experience with Dr. Collins was not horrible, but very caring, because once it was my turn with the doctor, any time waiting for him was well worth it. He sat and listened to me and explained everything in full and took his time with me. I cannot agree with you on your explanation of appointment because I witnessed him doing the same treatment with all the others around me. He wasn't rushed at all and was very willing to go to lengths to get me corrected to his fullest. I'm sorry you didn't have the same experience as I, mine was fantastic!! Horrible horrible doctor. I waited for 1.5 hours after my appointment time. Then I got xrays then I had to wait some more. Finally the doctor came in, spent literally 60 seconds with me and told me there was nothing he could do for me. He didn't touch my hands or even look at the xrays. I ran out crying. I scheduled an appointment with another doctor the same day and was seen within a week. The new doctor treated my carpal. Don't go to Evan Collins. I also never received a bill but he just sent it into collections. I would have disputed the bill immediately on receipt. It took me two full days to find out what doctor the collection notice was for. Horrible horrible doctor. I waited for 1.5 hours after my appointment time. Dr. Collins is an orthopedic upper extremities specialist. He is fun and caring, he is informative and encouraging, he is realistic and optimistic. And he is a hand surgeon par-excellence. I went into his office with fear and dread, knowing in my heart I was probably facing a very tough surgery (my left hand had been operated on by another hand surgeon several years before, followed by months of very painful recovery and a disappointing outcome). Dr. Collins was warm and gentle, patient and kind. But reality had its way, and I faced surgery on my right hand with much trepidation. He and the wonderful staff of Methodist Hospital's OPC Pre-Op and Orthopedic Surgery units made my surgical experience as easy and painless as possible. My post-operative care by Dr. Collins and Methodist's OT hand specialist was wonderful. I cannot adequately express my gratitude - and amazement - at my recovery process and outcome. Dr. Evan Collins is a fine gentleman, an incredibly knowledgeable and trustworthy physician, and the absolute best hand surgeon ever. On a scale of 1 - 5, he's a 10.
