I first saw Dr.Challgren a year ago and during my appt, he spotted skin cancer and subsequently handled my mohs surgery. I again saw him a week ago and just had to take a minute to recommend him. He listens carefully to every question and takes the time to thoroughly explain his findings and recommended treatment if needed. Highly recommend Dr. Challgren and his team.

I went to his office once to have some skin tags removed. Dr. Challgren immediately handed me off to a PA. He didn't try to connect with me as a patient at all - barely gave me 5 mins of his time. I wouldn't recommend him.

I appreciate having a Dr. who is compassionate and LISTENS. I actually think he reviews your chart after your visit and tries to "connect the dots" to better understand your concerns. I think he's a very dedicated Dr. and I'd recommend him to anyone with a skin condition. He explains his diagnosis and his recommendation for treatment. He is very thorough. The only drawback I have to this office is the nurse on my last two visits. She was both, rude and condescending before the Dr. came in for the consult and again when he left the room. The same thing happened on my last visit. The front desk staff is always courteous and friendly.

Excellent! Dr. Challgren removed a gangelion cyst from my scalp in 2005. After 2 previous surgeries I found Dr. Challgren. He was patient, knowledgeable and had phenomenal bedside manner. I recovered expediently, minimal scaring and haven't had any issue with the cyst since. I highly recommend Dr. Challgren!

Dr. Challgren was very professional and courteous. He and his staff were very helpful providing me with exceptional care. They followed up with my test results very quickly. I Highly recommend him as a doctor. I was treated for my acne which has now cleared up and I haven’t had a problem since.

First: Dr. Challgren is a very nice man and, as far as I know, a good dermatologist. However, according to his office staff, "The doctors have no idea how much things cost the patient or how procedures are charged. So you can't depend on them to give you any information on that." In the current world of high deductibles and self-paying patients, doctors like Dr. Challgren need to get a clue. I was just in for a check-up. The Dr. suggested that I have a small pre-cancerous spot removed. Fine. I asked him to look at a second place that itches occasionally. "It's benign, but I can hit that while we are at it." Sure. On check out, I was charged 50% more for the benign spot than the the other one. Why so much? "Well, we remove benign legions in groups. That's the charge to remove up to 5 benign spots", I'm told. Sooo... A. I wasn't aware I was going to be charged at all to "hit that one while we are it" and B. If I had known, I would have had 4 more similar spots removed! That's when she told me that the doctors don't know how things are charged and that "No...they don't have time to take me back and zap 4 more spots." And further, "as a self-pay patient, I should have asked." Um...Why would I ask..."Hey, am I going to be billed the same amount for up to 5 removals?" Who thinks to ask that? Dr Challgren is an excellent dermatologist. I have been a patient of his for several years and have never had an issue. He has performed multiple procedures on me and I have been completely satisfied. I would recommend him to anyone looking for a quality dermatology provider in Raleigh.

However, according to his office staff, "The doctors have no idea how much things cost the patient or how procedures are charged. So you can't depend on them to give you any information on that." In the current world of high deductibles, ignorance of charges hurts people . Saying off-hand, "I'll just hit that benign spot while I'm at it." and then hitting me with an extra $150 charge at check out is not OK.

I came in to receive treatment for a potential basil cell carcinoma spot, used the medical spray which seemed to have been placed for a duration that was too long because there is a large scar now on my leg and has been this way for almost a year now. It's disappointing because I have received the same treatment in the past from other facilities and I did not experience anything like this before.

Dr. Challgren and his staff was very caring, patient, and professional. I had a unfortunate extensive surgery and they took great care of me. I appreciate the superior surgery and efficiency of the entitre process. Two thumbs up!

Professional in every way. Thorough. Puts patient at ease. Explains procedures. Smiles. Caring.

Each year I go in for an annual check-up, he on average spent less than 5 minutes with me, knowing I have a family history of skin cancer. This past visit I showed him an area, he stated it was ok. 3 months later went in for annual physical, family doctor said I need to go to a Dermatologist as he was sure it was cancer, it was. Only hope he does a better job with others.
