Dr. Douglas E Lucas

February 2022: I am submitting a VERY late review. I should have done this review long ago...Dr. Lucas has since relocated to Asheville NC from Durango CO. After decades of living with the pains from the leg and foot damages, I decided I needed to get this fixed. My good friend recommended Blue Ridge Bone & Joint/Emerge Ortho. After a consultation with Dr. Lucas and a very thorough exam and X-rays, we decided that surgery was necessary to correct my approaching immobility. Dr. Lucas thoroughly explained in great detail what was going to be done in surgery, the recovery period and necessary Physical Therapy. No surprises at all. A date was set for surgery at Advent Hospital, and everything went smoothly like clockwork. And, surprise, Medicare took care of all the costs (less co-pays). Two years later, I am pain free and have complete mobility of my left leg. I unconditionally recommend Dr. D. Lucas to help you with any corrective measures needed for your legs and feet.

Waste of my time and money. He was very uninterested in helping me. Won't be back.

Doctor Lucas is thorough, asks the right questions and shows real concern for his patients wellbeing.

Dr Lucas and staff were great .. very professional.. extremely impressed by his ability and knowledge to fix my broken ankle with metal plates and screws and to barely leave a trace from his work. I now have a new ankle with no pain.. Great Dr highly recommend

Dr. Lucus is an amazing Dr. I had a fractured tibia that he was able to fix which the 1st Dr. that came in wasn't able to do it because it was so severe. Dr. Lucus reassured me and was honest what he was able to do. He had confidence and walked me though everything what was going to happen. Amazing Surgeon!!! Super nice and caring man. Had surgery today and I believe 100% that it will be good as almost new. Dr. Lucas, Gillian and the front office staff could not have been more professional, caring or attentive during my visits to the clinic. From my very first encounter with Dr. Lucas I felt that I was in good hands and his expertise throughout surgery and follow up proved that point.

I had full right ankle replacement in July, 2019. Dr. Lucas performed the surgery. I have made a complete recovery and am not limited in any way by my new akle. I recently completed a cruise of Italy, Greece, Croatia and Albania and experienced no limitations or discomfort on several excursions. This included many steps and cobblestone streets. Dr. Lucas is kind, patient, informed. He offered me a minimally invasive technique for bunion surgery and it was everything he promised--less pain, quicker recovery. At six weeks I was back to walking 3-5 miles at a time. I will happily have Dr. Lucas operate on the other foot.

Dr. Lucas and his team are very informative and helpful. Dr. Lucas performed surgery on my left foot to remove a neuroma and to realign my first metatarsal with a proximal phalanx osteotomy. The surgery went very well and the pain during the healing process was minimal. This surgery made it possible for me to comfortably walk flat footed barefoot again. I have had a few surgeons. Dr. Lucas has been the only one that I was comfortable with and confident in immediately. I had a complicated trimalleolar fracture of my right ankle. He fixed it with plates (2), and screws (box)(jk, there are just 12), and began seeing us on a regular schedule. I say "us" because my bride busted her ankle just 10 days after my surgery. Dr. Lucas would see us both at the same time. A whole team of folks took care of us to help us through this very difficult time. Before this happened I was a prolific walker. I am now walking again and have confidence I will return to my previous mileage thanks to this man. He fixed me. Best surgeon I have ever had. He and his nurse Gillian made it onto my Thanksgiving list of who I was thankful for in my life! Best caregivers ever. I have had a few surgeons. Dr. Lucas is a magician! He put my 17 year old son back together who shattered both of his ankles after a 30 foot fall. Not only is he an amazing surgeon but his care and compassion with my son and our entire family gave us comfort and hope. We are so lucky to have him in Durango, Colorado.

Dr. Lucas is a great surgeon! In less than 6 weeks after Cheilectomy surgery for osteoarthritis of the big toe and a Cartiva implant I am able to do daily 6-8 mile walks.. I'm also back in the saddle on my bike. The current pain is minimal and recovery was relatively quick. I couldn't be more pleased with such a terrific doctor who took the time to answer any and all of my questions and concerns. I would highly recommend Dr. Lucas to anyone looking for relief from osteoarthritis toe pain.

I highly recommend Dr. Lucas. I ruptured my Achilles skiing. After the initial injury a DVT settled in place which delayed diagnosis (and I was stubborn) for almost 4 months. By then, a significant amount of atrophy had set in. Dr. Lucas was very straight up and we set on a plan to get me back on my feet, literally. I am pleased to report that not only were his surgical efforts successful but with PT and training I recently completed my first full Ironman competition at age 64. Thanks Dr. Lucas.

I suffered a trauma accident close to 14 years ago leaving me with neurological damage. I have seen multiple orthopedic surgeons over the years to correct various issues. I accepted a lingering injury, as two surgeries had already been attempted which proved to be unsuccessful. I wasn't just referred to see Dr. Lucas by multiple doctors, but encouraged to do so. I wish I'd had the surgery sooner. Not only are daily activities easier, but also I can mountain bike and hike again pain free.

I went to Dr. Lucas with a painful and disabling foot problem. He took the time to explain my condition and to make sure I understood all of the options and possible outcomes. He did not jump straight into surgical correction, but explored other less invasive ways to help me. Ultimately I did end up needing surgery and Dr. Lucas did a fabulous job. I highly recommend this talented surgeon and I am very pleased with the outcome and the care I received from Dr. Lucas and his staff.

Dr. Lucas is an exemplary Ortho Surgeon. He not only made me feel like I was important to him and not just a "number" but he made me feel like I was getting the BEST care available when other doctors wouldn't even touch my case. My case was very complicated and he took the time to get outside opinions and share them with me. In the end, I am healed and back on my feet and I have it all to thank Dr. Lucas. I would recommend him to any one of my friends or family. He is excellent at what he does.

Dr Lucas came highly recommended by my primary care provider and close friend, & I am forever grateful for the fabulous connection. I had a long overdue need to address a bunion & bunionette. He not only made time in his incredibly full schedule to fit me in, but also talked through options, and clearly explained his recommended course of action. He & his staff are remarkably knowledgeable, kind, & reassuring from the first visit through the entire process. Post-surgery results were stunning!
