I have seen many psychiatrists, psychologists and therapists over the last 15 years for treatment of my anxiety and depression and Dr. Benazidez is the best of the best. She has helped me work through my anxiety and gain the courage and insight to make some major changes to better my life. I cannot recommend her enough I am so glad I was referred to her by a friend.

Every doctor I have ever met has had three traits in common: they are professional, rational, and mature. I consider these qualities to be essential tenets of a doctor's profession: they understand that their work impacts people's lives and they conduct themselves accordingly. Unfortunately, after my experiences with Dr. Benevides, I can conclude that she has none of these qualities. The first thing that sticks out in my mind is the fact that, as a civilian, I have personally witnessed Dr. Benevides gossip about her patients behind their backs. Not just to employees or other professionals. To other patients! Not just comments about their appearance or behavior. Details about their treatment and their conditions. I found this utterly appalling. Every patient's family has the right to privacy and to know they will be treated with respect. Dr. Benevides seems to suffer from a real lack of confidence. She does not respond well to questions or inquiries; she becomes immediately defensive. When I would ask her about treatment, she was dismissive and almost held me in contempt for questioning her. I didn't feel comfortable talking with her about care. Without going into explicit detail, ultimately I believe Dr. Benevides made several poor decisions regarding the care of my family and had major lapses in judgement. My life and the life of my family are worse off for having met her, and I sincerely hope that families will think twice before visiting her. When choosing a doctor, there are a few important aspects about both the doctor your own situation, that should be considered. I considered those aspects...deeply. Dr. Benavidez was recommended by a long time friend. Without going into my own personal story, I'll just say that seeking a professional beyond a physical ailment, is not generally valued in the Black community. We are, especially Black women, supposed to be strong and able to lift tall buildings in a single bound. Well, many of us can't. We're just human, in a society where 'just human' is not always good enough. Letting our guards down can be...difficult. Well, thank goodness for Dr. Benavidez for not just seeing me, but for helping to ensure that I could clearly see myself. I am thankful for Dr. Benavidez. I am thankful that a professional, compassionate, wise, and empathetic doctor exists at a time when such qualities are sorely lacking. I recommend Dr. Benavidez for her many professional qualities, the strongest being her integrity. Her warmth when dealing with a marginalized population is exemplary and is the basis of her success in assisting them deal with the challenges they face. The testing of youth she provides is also a testimony to her commitment as a practitioner to helping youth realize their potential. My recommendation is enthusiastic and unequivocal. Dr. Benavidez was highly recommended to me by an established professional psychiatrist. When I came to Dr. Benavidez I was dealing with many painful and complicated issues in my life. Her personal innate and natural ability to empathize goes beyond anything that I feel can ever be found or taught in any text book. It's SIMPLY AMAZIING as to where I am today due to her insight and expertise is certainly remarkable. I would certainly recommend her services. Her kindness, professionalism and integrity are beyond reproach.

Dr. Benavidez was always very professional and had good energy which is very important to me. I like professionals who smile and laugh and not act like robots. I did not feel like a number or someone’s meal ticket. I felt supported. Most importantly, she listens! I felt she was able to meet us where we were and I didn’t feel judged. I would recommend her services.

I was recommended to Dr Benavidez by a friend whose child was tested by her. As my friend said when recommending her, she was a wonderful practitioner. My son was comfortable with her during testing and her recommendations after completion of testing, were extremely helpful. I would recommend her without hesitation. She was professional but also warm and supportive.

I was not familiar with Vitals.com until a friend whom I had referred to Dr. Benavidez informed me that she had checked that web site and was surprised, since my recommendation was so strong, that there were several negative reviews. I then checked the website and was surprised and angered by a review that I know must be based on malicious intent. I have referred several friends to Dr. Benavidez based on a reputation she has earned after 15 years of experience in my community, for counseling and for testing of their children. They have all been well served and have nothing but positive feedback about their experience with her. I am a busy professional and would not usually take the time to address something on the internet as I know it can be used to spread lies. However, as a professional I felt it necessary to address what I know is an unfair, unwarranted attack on a fellow professional who has also served me with excellence and integrity as my practitioner during a very traumatic period of my life. I really feel the necessity to contact others who have had the same experience with her over the years of her practice in this community, including school counselors who have been the source of many of her testing referrals, but do not want to yield to the lure of internet “revenge” nonsense. Suffice it to say that I know without a doubt that Dr.Benavidez’s integrity and excellence is without question.

She did a good job acting like she cared about my problems but the truth is she is unprofessional and steps out of line. She talks about patients behind their backs and their discussions in therapy which is supposed to be confidential. I don’t believe in therapy anymore thanks to her and my own confidence when it comes to talking about feelings with others is nonexistent. It’s a shame because I used to talk to her as a child but now that i’m an adult the thought about doing therapy, being emotional, or opening up to others make me feel like I just might get backstabbed or that they won’t truly care.
