Dr. Matsuda used hip arthroscopy ~8 months ago to correct my hip dysplasia as well as some wear and tear from growing up dancing, and I couldn’t have asked for a better procedure! His practice is patient-centered and he goes out of his way to ensure you are involved in every step of the process. My recovery has been a breeze and my pain was kept to a minimum (if there was any at all). I highly recommend Dr. Matsuda!

Dr. Matsuda was fantastic. Excellent bedside manner, he took his time to review all my images, thoroughly examine me, and explain a detailed treatment plan going forward. I highly recommend him and I was completely satisfied with his service. Post Op Update: I had bilateral hip arthroscopy with Dr. Matsuda 9/29/21. I was able to walk the day of my surgery. I was off crutches completely by two weeks. Back to work 3 1/2 weeks post op. I am back to my normal activities and sports 4 months after surgery. I went from having pain every day just sitting in a chair or driving in my car to being completely pain-free and feeling healthy again for the first time in a few years. If you are experiencing any problems with your hips I highly recommend Dr. Matsuda. Simply put he is in a league of his own. You will not find a better surgeon or person to take care of you if you are having any issues with your hips. Dr. Matsuda was fantastic. My experience with Dr. Matsuda has been nothing but fantastic. He was very down to earth and friendly, and was very knowledgeable about my situation. I had an old hamstring injury that needed repair, and he saw that it was causing hip issues as well. He was able to go in and reattach my hamstring after 17 years, and perform a hip arthroscopy to fix my hip issues. I am now 5 months post surgery and I have my life back. Soon I will be playing sports and doing all the things I used to love. I can’t thank him and his staff enough for everything. My experience with Dr. Matsuda has been nothing but fantastic. Dr. Dean Matsuda is an exceptional surgeon. I was referred to him by my back surgeon when he felt the lower back and leg pain I was experiencing was not from my back but rather from my hip. From the first minute I met Dr. Matsuda, I knew that I was in good hands and felt a sense of relief when he internalized my symptoms and gave me a diagnosis. What sets Dr. M. apart from other surgeons is his patience, genuine care and understanding; his humble approach despite being one of the best hip surgeons in the world and his availability to his patients is unparalleled. I've seen many doctors at my age and have never met a physician as wonderful as him. I was well taken care of before and after my labrum repair surgery and was pain-free from the first day after the operation. I have been able to move easily and comfortably two weeks after my surgery and no longer have the pain caused by my hip problem. Thank you, Dr. Matsuda. Dr. Dean Matsuda is an exceptional surgeon. I had a double hip arthroscopy done by Dr. Matsuda. 6 months post operation I am back to my normal workout routines consisting of heavy lifting and sprints. Having both hips done at once was the right move as it made my rehab much shorter in the long run. If I had to do it again, I wouldn’t change a thing!

I've been in pain for more than 2 years. Every doctor I saw thought it came from my lower back until I met Dr Matsuda who found that my hip was the cause of my pain. He did an arthroscopy of my left hip. Not only the surgery was a complete success, the recovery very easy, but I'm totally pain free since then.

I came to DISC in hopes of getting my hip checked after having injured it in a half marathon. Dr. Matsuda was out of the country during the time I tried to make an appointment, but Ginny--his wonderful receptionist--made it her mission to help me with whatever was necessary to make sure I was taken care of. Not only did Dr. Matsuda order xrays for me, but also went out of his way to read them while he was overseas. With Ginny's proactive communication with Dr. Matsuda, I was given a diagnosis and snagged the first available appointment to see him upon return. During my appointment, I was treated with utmost courtesy and given the time to go through everything that lead up to my being in Dr. Matsuda's office. Not only did he review the xrays with me in person, but also tested my range of motion, which confirmed his initial diagnosis. Given the gravity of my injury during initial contact with Dr. Matsuda, I was tempted to see another specialist, but after experiencing how prompt and accommodating both he and Ginny were, I decided to hold off to get a proper assessment with them. The appointment was worth the wait--the diagnosis was thorough and I felt relieved after seeing Dr. Matsuda. Thank you both for everything! Dr Matsuda is thoughtful, caring, and professional. I have had long standing hip impingement, and as an orthopedic surgeon myself sought out expert care as I began having day to day pain. There are only a handful of surgeons in the US with Dr Matsuda's skill set and experience, and when combined with his down to earth demeanor it became obvious he was the right surgeon for me. If you are young (<55 +/-) with activity related hip pain and minimal arthritis on imaging, I highly recommend him. In fact, given his expertise he was able to perform surgery on both hips in the same setting for me. Immediately after surgery my day to day pain has been gone, I've had no discomfort with physical therapy, and haven't slept so well in years. I have required ZERO narcotic pain medication during my recovery. Dr Matsuda is a surgeon with whom you can have confidence. He is an expert in athletic related hip pain, problems such as "hip impingement," "labral tears," and "hip dysplasia," with the experience and skills to set you on a path to success! As an update, now 4 months post surgery, I am back to my prior level of activity with 90% ++ less pain. I have taken anti-inflammatories only a handful of times during my recovery. I continue to be very pleased that I did this, and understand full recovery is beyond 6-12 months. Dr Matsuda is thoughtful, caring, and professional. Dr. Matsuda is not only a brilliant surgeon, he is truly a very kind person. He takes his time to thoroughly explain everything and treats you like a human being. I have had to see many doctors over the last year and it’s been nothing short of an absolute nightmare. Dr. Matsuda changed all of that in one visit and I felt heard for the first time. I am two days post-op hip arthroscopy and I am not in pain! I had the same surgery on my other hip a few months ago (different surgeon) and was in constant, unyielding pain. Not sure how Dr. Matsuda does it, but he really is a genius. Ginny, the practice manager, is a rockstar! Since I have quite a few other experiences to compare to, I can easily say she is amazing. Ginny is on top of EVERYTHING and has been consistently nice the entire time (I ask a lot of questions). She pretty much does the job of 5 people and does it with patience and unbelievable attention to detail. My whole experience with Dr. Matsuda’s office has been easy and pleasant. The X-Ray tech in his office was great and the front desk staff were also kind and easy to work with. There were no surprises with anything and I never felt like I was burdening people with my questions. I highly recommend Dr. Matsuda to anyone who is suffering from chronic hip pain! Dean gave me my life back. I have a rare bone deformity in both hips which tore both hip cartilage and caused impingements; Femoroacetabular impingement (FAI). I am grateful beyond words to have been referred to Dr. Dean Matsuda; one of three docs in the country to fix my cartilage and shave the bones down arthroscopically. Dean patented the machine that shaves the bone down and he travels the world teaching his gifted skill. My right hip has a cadaver that was graphed into the torn cartilage. I couldn't sit more than 10 minutes with bone rubbing on bone. Both hip surgeries went exceptionally well because of Dean knowledge & exceptional expertise. Dean gives old fashioned caring service. Appointments with Dean are mind blowing they are so through. Deans bedside manner are gentle and true caring. You can email him day or night and he will answer. No question is too much or silly. I am beyond thankful to have had Dr. Matsuda as my hip surgeon and am honored to consider him an inspiration and influence in my life. At 14, I underwent a right hip arthroscopy for repairment of my torn labrum and removal of my cam and pincer impingement. After several months, I was hiking and getting back on skis and, in less than a year, was skiing some of the most intense and notorious runs in the Sierra Nevadas. I can not say enough great comments about Dr. Dean Matsuda! He is kind, skilled and knowledgeable. I was almost 55 years old when he met me and as an older patient he was willing to under take my care. I needed operative hip arthroscopy and labral reconstruction with my own hamstring graft. Dr. Dean Matsuda performed my surgery on 03/2015 and addressed my torn labrum and persistent/recurrent bony impingement without any complications. I had undergone 2 prior hip arthroscopic procedures and an open hip surgical dislocation following 2 bike vs car accidents. Following my surgery with Dr. Dean Matsuda I am back skiing black diamonds & a year later rode in four 100-129 mile bike rides with up to 15,000 feet of climbing, included the 5 passes of the Death Ride. I am still doing great 4 years later. I couldn’t ride more than 20 miles due to hip pain in 2014. I am certainly not pain free, but couldn’t have accomplished this without Dr. Dean Matsuda and Dr. Marty Reed, at Kaiser, Sacramento who did my knee cartilage repair. I am very blessed. I trust and highly recommend Dr. Dean Matsuda and I am an orthopaedic surgeon and hip arthroscopist myself, so I know when people know what they are doing and he does. Dr. Matsuda performed arthroscopic hip surgery on my 15-year old son last week...a year-round baseball player. It was a complicated case where he repaired a fracture in the acetabular rim with a screw; repaired an injured labrum; and, sculpted the femur to eradicate a large cam deformity so that there is no impingement when putting my son's hip through the extremes of athletic hip range of motion. I did an enormous amount of research and had my son meet with four hip specialist. In the end, we felt certain that Dr. Matsuda was the right choice given both his experience as well as his outstanding reputation in hip arthroscopy. My son is doing well and has virtually no pain just one week after surgery. Dr. Matsuda sat with me and answered all of my extensive questions had about the surgery. If you have a torn labrum(s) Dr. Matsuda is who you must see. There are surgeons out there who can treat your issue but you must go to a doctor who is an expert in this field. The pain in my right hip began about 10 years ago. It progressively got worse as the years went by and I knew I had to address it. I had a few MRI’s and learned I had a torn labrum. About 6 months prior to seeing Dr. Matsuda my left hip started hurting as well. Dr. Matsuda looked at my MRI and confirmed both labrums were torn. He proceeded to ask me if I’d like to have both hips repaired at the same time. I was apprehensive at first but with Dr. Matsuda’s extensive knowledge and experience in this field I made the decision to give the surgery the green light. Having only one recovery versus two was very appealing. After surgery I woke up in very little pain. I was able to do little weight-bearing and walked to the restroom with assistance. This was incredible after having bilateral hip surgery! That night I went home Dr. Matsuda called me on my way home and told me not to hesitate to call or email with any questions. Recovery was a breeze, took only one pain pill throughout the entire healing process and that was the night of the surgery. I was in very little pain and it was amazing. I was on crutches for a few weeks and rode the stationary bike everyday as instructed by Dr. Matsuda. My right hip is still a bit achy but Dr. M says that is normal in the healing process. 8 months post and I am able to basically do anything I could prior to surgery with little pain! You are in amazing hands with Dr. Matsuda, I am forever grateful and indebted to him and his amazing staff. Thank you Dr. Matsuda!! What a great experience my consult with Dr Matsuda was! He took time to deeply analyze my situation, educate me, and give me his HONEST opinion. I especially appreciated his honest information about postop and activities going forward. I would definitely choose Dr Matsuda to perform my surgery. And a shoutout to his patient coordinator, Ginny, too. Super nice and really on top of things. What a great experience my consult with Dr Matsuda was! If you need arthroscopic hip surgery Dr. Matsuda is the one to see. I had two days of moderate pain then no pain after that. I didn't even get any bruising. If you follow his detailed instructions and use the ice machine for first couple of days, it's a fairly easy recovery.

Dr. Matsuda was truly amazing. I’ve had several surgeries for sports related injuries and my experience with Dr. Matsuda has been incredible, the best overall experience I’ve had with any of my many surgical procedures. He has been very responsive anytime I’ve needed anything. My surgery went very well, all of his recommendations post-op have really helped me recover super fast, I returned to a very high level of athletic performance way before I thought was even possible!!! He took the time to explain everything in great detail every step of the way. I would highly recommend Dr. Dean Matsuda and I already have to a very close friend. Dr. Matsuda was truly amazing. Dean also calls the day of surgery himself to follow up. Dr Matsuda is the best physician & surgeon

I cannot say enough about how happy I am about my experience with Dr. Dean Matsuda. I'm now 3 months out from a double hip arthroscopy, and I rode my horse for the first time with absolutely NO pain. This is life changing, as I had severe pain before. Not only that, the care and time that Dr. Matsuda takes to explain the surgery and procedures to you are invaluable. Dr. Matsuda spotted a large cyst in my right hip, and was also able to remove the cyst and do a bone graft. EXCELLENT!!!!!

I am 14 years old and after a year of hip pain, Dr. Matsuda repaired my labrum and removed my impingements. The whole team at DISC was amazing. Not only is Dr. Matsuda a skilled surgeon, but he is also very caring and nice. It is now 11 weeks post-op, I am feeling better than I have in a year. Instead of my hip progressively worsening, I am getting better and stronger each day. I am so happy that I got the surgery, and I am thankful to have had this surgery with Dr. Matsuda.

I had right hip surgery in Sept of 2016 with Dr. Dean Matsuda for Labral repair and femoroplasty form a 6 year old football injury. 4 months later, I feel great. I am back to work as a Firefighter with no restrictions. Everyone at DISC, the surgery center, and Dr. Matsuda helped me feel at ease during the entire process. He was readily available if I had any questions or concerns pre and post surgery. He genuinely cares and takes immense pride in his work. I highly recommend him.

My daughter (14 years old) had hip arthroscopy by Dr. Matsuda 6 weeks ago. He diagnosed her with CAM impingement and some Pincer impingement. She had damages to her joint cartilage and labrum. Dr. Matsuda fixed her problems. She is recovering well, can walk short distance without crutches now. Before she could not even walk without pain. Dr. Matsuda was very friendly and patient, took time to answer all our questions, has great bedside manners. Dr. Matsuda is a great and skillful doctor!
