David C. Upton

Excellent reputation is well-deserved. Dr Upton is efficient, professional and a damn good surgeon. He did wonders for my lifelong breathing problems.

One of the best doctors I know

Knowledgeable, caring, respectful, presented options, didn't push for surgery.

Saw Dr. Upton for sleep apnea and have a rarely diagnosed disorder. He knew about it and the associated risks - he did a scope and found extra obstruction and was able to recommend surgery and forego something that would have been high risk for my condition. I got the surgery and although rough (as warned) not as bad as I thought it would be. They also did what they could to manage my condition. It's been a few years and the apnea is gone. My quality of life is so much better. I'm thankful I saw someone knowledgeable because if I hadn't seen him, I likely would've been forced to do things that caused TMJ and other severe problems. Grateful to have someone who both kept up with the knowledge and was willing to advocate for my insurance and also schedule surgery on a semester break. I got transferred to the university hospital ER from another hospital that didn't have a ENT Dr. on call. That ER Dr. was sweating because I lost a lot of blood because of a really really bad nose bleed and he couldn't control it. When I arrived at the U of W hospital Dr. Upton took over. He knew exactly what to do and with student Doctors watching never lost control. If I ever end up in the emergency room again he is the guy I want their taking care of me. He may be a hard guy to get an appointment with in the clinic but that would be because he knows his stuff! He was unkind to my daughter. Talked poorly of the facility that he was working out of. He only did a procedure on one ear, due to improper equipment (others have used just fine). Sent her out the door. She cried for 15 minutes afterwards. Very unhappy experience with this doctor.

Dr. Upton is a fabulous ENT doctor. I needed an unusual surgery in my throat to get a fish bone out. When he had me do a CAT scan Friday morning, he called me Friday afternoon and said I needed to have it out the NEXT day! I was shocked but we did it. Everything went very smooth and I felt much better. Dr. Upton is really a great guy. He was knowledgeable, kind, caring and very professional. I thank him for being so observant. It could have been fatal. A BIG THANK YOU goes to him!!!!

I have a rarely understood genetic condition called EDS. I saw him for sleep apnea dental implement vs. surgery consideration after failing conventional problems. By the time I saw him it was severe. I was shocked he understood my condition, but also understood all of the related complications. He worked very hard with my doctor to ensure the surgery was safe and effective and my sleep apnea is now gone. Another doctor may have opted to make me do implements, which would have caused TMJ.

Dr. David Upton is a decent, well-rounded doctor, but I went in for a new patient consult on a sinus infection. By the time the clinic could see me, the infection was gone and the consult was uninformative. Rather than just doing a patient consult, Dr. Upton proceeded to do a quick endoscopy, and I later received a bill for over $1000 for less than 10 minutes of service.
