Our 16-year-old daughter underwent a 7-hour awake resection of a non-cancerous brain tumor from her left temporal lobe (the speech center of the brain). It is not common for an adolescent to have awake brain surgery, simply because they may not be able to handle it. One of her success factors was intra-operative Real Time Neuropsychological Testing (RTNT), performed by "Dr. Dave." He traveled to our location to teach local colleagues his methods, adapting RTNT to be useful for a child while compassionately caring for our daughter through the ordeal. He even helped her call me during the surgery! We’re so thankful for his expertise and care. Our daughter had none of the speech deficits that we were bracing for, and has been seizure-free since her surgery!
