My appointment was scheduled for 10AM and they finally called me to the back 45 minutes later. I waited for Dr. Roberts For another 25 minutes. When asked why I was there I started to explain and Dr. Roberts interrupted me a few times attempting to correct me as if I didn't know what I was feeling. I proceeded to correct him a few times. In the end he was uncertain about to the cramps I was having in my neck. When I asked why I was getting cramps in my esophagus when I yawn, rather than resting me to someone else or telling me he would look into it, he informed me he didn't know what was wrong and had never heard anything like it. Dr. Roberts informed me I have arthritis in my neck and therapy nor massages will help me and the only thing that will help is medication for arthritis. He never mentioned heating pads, massages, acupuncture or anything else. I wen't home called my primary care physician who listened, scheduled an appointment, and provided solutions the next day. If I could give him a zero star I would. I came there to discuss with him concerns I was having about another surgeons work on sacral fractures. From the beginning he walked in, didn’t look me in the eye or shake my hand or introduce himself. So I knew it was about to get interesting. He stated that he wouldn’t work on me or touch me so soon after a surgery. I stated I wasn’t necessarily asking for him to treat me. I just wanted more information from someone who has worked on sacral fractures. He said just go talk to your surgeon. If my surgeon is the problem then why on earth would I continue to get his advice. Let me preface this by saying my surgeon is decent but I had a lot of complications from the sacrum surgery that I simply wanted more information. I am well aware that doctors should not work on someone who is so recently post surgery. He just kept saying over and over that he would not touch me and he would not work with me and for me to go back to my surgeon and ask him all the questions that I needed. After all the complications a blood transfusion, a concussion and so many other things associated with this fracture; not to mention unpaid time off from work and foster children as well as your own children the last thing you wanna hear is a rude doctor who lacks empathy and support. After I left the office crying hysterically one the nurses accompanied me to the lobby and gave me a cup of water and some tissue. My husband picked up and went back to the clinic to have veined professional words with him. At this point he seemed apologetic but with me he didn’t apologize or offer any options for help. I’m sure the Spinal Clinic is amazing but they could definitely do without doctor Roberts or at the very least make him take some trauma informed classes or cultural competency class. In 2019, I celebrated the 10 year anniversary of my spinal surgery that Dr. Roberts performed. I can honestly say that I haven't had a single problem since. I feel quite lucky because I have heard about so many other people who are never truly healed from spinal issues. I know choosing Dr. Robert's was the right choice and I greatly appreciate his knowledge and skill even 10 years later.
