I have gone to the Clinton/Heyworth OSF practice as my primary care provider for a couple of years and the staff have always been very friendly, caring, and professional. I don’t usually leave reviews like this, but my treatment there several months ago has been gnawing at me and I thought maybe I could save someone else from this type of ‘doctor’s’ session. While most of the staff (nurses, etc) still seem to be absolutely wonderful, I was appalled by my one and only appointment with Dr. Rauch. I went in to be treated for a sinus infection and to hopefully restart my ADHD prescription meds that I had previously been on. From the second he entered the room his facial expression and mannerisms made me feel like I was just another pathetic burden that he needed to quickly get through to end his day. I instinctively started wondering if there was something I had done to offend him. Instead of feeling like he was someone I could talk to, I felt intimidated and a bit dejected from the get-go. He quickly checked the basic vitals and looked into my nose before nonchalantly saying that there was nothing there, then turned away from me to his computer and began typing. When I pointed out that I had pretty severe facial pain and was prone to sinus infections, he dismissed it again, continuing to look at his computer. When I asked if we could discuss me going back on my ADHD medication (which other physicians in the same practice had recently previously prescribed me), he didn’t even try to hide his disdain. Before I had even finished asking the question, he blurted out “I don’t buy into adult ADHD at ALL…like AT ALL” (this was seriously verbatim) while shaking his head and continuing to type at his computer. I was shocked, kind of angry, and embarrassed. If he was uncomfortable giving such medication or preferred not to handle cases like that, he could have just said that and I would have completely understood. But instead, he chose to insinuate that I, and a large chunk of people within his profession, are either gullibly stupid or are perpetuating a major medical fraud. I stayed silent as he finished typing on his computer, no doubt ensuring that he would get paid for this degrading sham of a doctor’s session. He stood up and asked if I had any other questions and I should have said “No, you’ve been sufficiently dismissive enough, thank you.”, but instead I silently shook my head no and made it into my car before (I’m ashamed to admit) started ugly crying in embarrassment and anger. Of course, I ended up in urgent care the next day to be treated for the painful sinus infection he told me “wasn’t there” and I promptly changed my primary medical practice to avoid ever seeing him again. I don’t know if Dr. Rauch is usually a nice and professional doctor and was just having a very bad day, if I just took things too personally, or if he needs to find another profession…either way, he needs to figure out how to have more respect for his patients than that. I saw Dr. Rauch one time and that was enough for me! He accused me of being a pill popper, and treated me horribly! I have seen where he picks and chooses on who he treats badly, and I will never visit him again.
