If you or a loved one has been diagnosed with cancer, and was given a recommendation to Dr. Austin, RUN, DON'T WALK! This woman is VILE. She doesn't care about her patients, she doesn't care if your parents, spouse, or YOU die on her neglectful watch, she will lie to you and tell you that you have had a recurrence when you haven't, start you on chemo drugs before even knowing your pathology, anything to get her patients in that chair, just so she can get paid from administering chemo, and WHOO BOY, if you have the "nerve" to ask her any questions about your (or your loved ones) care, she will "RELEASE THE KRACKEN" immediately. Her admin staff is also just as rude, condescending, lazy, and heartless as she is. They don't pass along messages, and they are just as quick to catch an attitude as Dr. Austin is. I wouldn't send my WORST ENEMY to this heinous woman.

It has taken me 12 years to finally decide to post this, but I hope it will be beneficial for all including Dr. Austin. My late husband was diagnosed with lung and kidney cancer. He had his kidney removed and was in the hospital for a month. It was obvious that he was not getting better but when my forty year old daughter pointedly asked Dr. Austin what she thought, she told her that she had seen patients make remarkable recovery when they got home. The next day we got him home and he died three days later. She sent me home with four pages of prescription maintenance drugs which I frantically tried to to get to make sure he had everything she said he needed. Not once did she suggest Hospice. We could have had a much gentler passing had she been honest with us. I would not recommend her to anyone. I was diagnosed with Stage 3 Breast Cancer in 2001. I was given a list of Oncologist by my surgeon. I still thank God to this day that I chose Dr. Austin. She is one of the warmest, kind, and caring Dr.s I have ever met. Dr. Austin and her wonderful staff were always there for me every step of the way. Always positive and uplifting. I am still alive and cancer free today because of her, her staff, and of course GOD. I was diagnosed with Stage 3 Breast Cancer in 2001. I was given a list of Oncologist by my surgeon. Not the same as before. Used to be amazing. Also relies way too much on a PA who is NOT an MD but sees patients as much or more as the doctor (sometimes even if you were supposed to see the doctor). Bottom line: always get a 2nd and 3rd opinion on anything these people tell you (especially the PA), even when they give you purportedly good news.

Dr. Austin is the TOP breast cancer Oncologist in GA as far as Im concerned. She & her staff gave me optimism and I had full faith that I was receiving the BEST care I could hope for. With the encouragement and 24/7 availability by phone, I was able to push through the chemotherapy required by my diagnosis. I cant even say how many times Dr. Austin's nurse talked me off the ledge when I wanted to quit treatment. I lucked out when I chose Dr. Austin & Northside Hospital in Canton. Dont leave this vital decision to luck, though, CHOOSE Colleen Austin, MD and her amazingly kind, patient & knowledgeable staff. You will be in great hands!

She is rude, uncaring, never returns calls, her famous line to me was “your mother isn’t my only patient.” She never followed up with me regrading my mom’s stage 4 lung cancer pet scan results, couldn’t get a follow up appointment after last chemo. She refused to give my mom Valium to calm her nerves. I finally got an appointment and when I went to pick up my mom to take her, she had passed away in her bed. I wish the medical association would take her license away. I have been a patient of Dr. Austin for over a year and then so was my husband, because I liked the office so much. We went to the one in Alpharetta. I also like and respected the nurses and PA's. I never felt she was cold!

An Excellent oncologist! My wife and I have nothing but high marks for Dr. Austin as we met her on what I believed to be my pregnant wife's deathbed. Dr. Austins education, demeanor, and overall treatment methodologies have given me the opportunity to have two years and counting with my my wife (w/stage 4 metastatic cancer) and my little boy. This is the kind of doctor that you want in your corner.

Dr. Austin and her staff were very informative and made sure I felt comfortable with each of my chemo treatments. I never felt rushed through my appointments with Dr. Austin. She was very pleasant at each visit and was interested in me, not just my cancer and treatments.

Dr. Austin came with a glowing recommendation from my breast specialist, whom I loved, so I went into the appointment with her already confident in her knowledge, as well as bedside manner, simply because of the recommendation I received. Apparently, only her colleagues and their families get that kind of special treatment, because I wish I never set foot in her office. Her demeanor is cold, she gets indignant when she's wrong, she has no patience, and is all about getting money out of her patients. I only saw her ONCE during the 3 months that I was her patient. She would never return my calls, nor would anyone at her front desk, when I DID get in touch with her nurse, and specifically asked about a follow-up appointment after my port placement, I was flat out told "no, you don't need a follow up", which I, and everyone in radiology thought was incredibly strange. Come to find out, her nurse told Dr. Austin that my VACATION was a PERMANENT MOVE, and that I was no longer in Atlanta. Despite having my port placement after I supposedly moved, I still couldn't get a returned phone call, or an appointment. When I finally went off on her nurse, not necessarily for the mix up, but for the unbelievable way that she INSISTED that I told her that I had permanently left the state, Dr. Austin finally dredged herself up to call me....to completely berate me, instead of apologizing for the miscommunication and mishandling of my case. THEN (yes, it gets better), after it was CLEAR that the situation was 100% her office's fault, she still doesn't apologize, she hits me with the "well, you're not my ONLY patient", then says, "Well, do you wanna continue to harp on this, or do you wanna move forward?" By that time, I was indeed moving. I had been trying to get an appointment with her for 2 MONTHS. I was supposed to begin chemo weeks before that. She THEN asks, "Well, what are you doing on Monday? Can you come in for chemo?" (this conversation occured late on a Thursday) Like it was a lunch date. Oh, let me add that she had put no treatment plan in place for me, because during our initial appointment, she didn't have all of my pathology results, so she didn't know if I was HER2 + or not, whether I was HR+ or not, she knew close to nothing. She had no idea what chemo drugs I should've even been on, but she just casually asked me to come in to receive drugs that she didn't even know my cancer would even respond to. Plus, I was moving later that week. I fully believe that I saved my own life by not letting her touch me. I would not recommend Dr. Austin to ANYONE. Her lack of actually caring for her patients could cost you your life. Literally. I don’t usually write reviews, especially negative ones, but felt compelled to do so as a result of the absolutely horrific experience we had with Dr. Colleen Austin. As back ground, I recently moved my folks to Atlanta due to their age. My mom has had brain, breast and lung cancer in the past and we selected Dr. Austin as her Oncologist. I recently accompanied my folks to my mother’s appointment with Dr. Austin. I was concerned that she had recently refused her regularly schedule shots. This appointment was scheduled after Dr. Austin refused to speak with us while my mother was at her treatment even though she was standing right there. So we get to the appointment to which Dr. Austin shows up 1 ½ hours late for, and I asked Dr. Austin what the name of the medication was and what it was for and was totally unprepared for her response. She totally lost her composure and started yelling and screaming. She said (direct quote here), “I don’t have to answer questions like that!” and then proceeded to say “You need to find another Oncologist”, and then stormed out of the examination room slamming the door behind her. Needless to say, I was flabbergasted as I expect any professional doctor to be able to routinely answer questions about a patient’s treatment. The nurse came in a couple of minutes later and said Dr. Austin would send us a letter, which she never did. So, we get my mom a new Oncologist and find that she is cancer free. This gets me wondering about the treatment Dr. Austin was prescribing and her reaction to being asked about it. My opinion on this is that the treatment was not necessary and she panicked when asked about it because my parents would never ask about the treatment and it provides Dr. Austin an opportunity to take advantage of the elderly. My advice is that, if you’re looking a good Oncologist, keep looking. From my limited with her, it appears to me that she is not trustworthy and cannot articulate the rationale behind a patient’s treatment. Steer clear!! I don’t usually write reviews, especially negative ones, but felt compelled to do so as a result of the absolutely horrific experience we had with Dr. Colleen Austin. I am reading these reviews. I have been a patient of Dr. Austin’s for 17 years. She can be cold and distant however she can be very kind. In my opinion she is an excellent doctor and I believe I owe her a great deal. I am grateful for her intelligence, knowledge and dedication. Dr. Austin has taken outstanding care of me since my breast care diagnosis. She is extremely knowledgeable yet caring, and takes the time to answer my questions and provide specific information based on research. She is dedicated and gifted -- one of the very best around. She treated my mom as well 12 years ago, and Mom is doing great. In addition, her Physician Assistants , Nurses, and entire staff are professional, organized, yet warm and friendly. Top-notch!

I really should have paid more attention to the first review (which was the only review at the time), about Dr. Austin's deplorable bedside manner and attitude towards her patients. During my entire as her patient, I only saw Dr. Austin ONCE, and could never get an appointment with her after that. Not for a follow up after having my port placement, not after ASKING for some kind of follow up, nothing. When I DID finally speak with her, she was disgustingly irate. This is only half of the drama.
