At the age of 19 Dr.Ames " Superman" did surgery on my neck to remove a tumor that a recent MRI had found. After removing a mass that had been created from my radiation treatment, he also had to remove C3 replacing it with surgical mesh. Thanks to his skilled hands and knowledgeable mind I turned 35 last October and have never had a single problem with my neck. With all the ???? from me and my family THANK YOU. Almost four years ago, I had a spinal fusion performed by skilled neurosurgeon, Dr. Christopher Ames, I had been walking with a cain or a walker. I was depending upon the little electric Cars provided by supermarkets and and superstores. I was losing my independence in public and also at home. Anyone who is willing to meet the physical and emotional challenges of commitment to recovery should see Dr. Ames. I can do six mile walks, take care of my home and garden, and, enjoy my children and grand-children. I was so fortunate to have found Dr. Ames. Today, I look forward to what is ahead for me for the rest my life. Update: Requested appt for another spinal issue. I was refused any direct contact with Dr. Ames because I had not seen him in 3 years and was considered a new patient (Jerick, assistant). Meantime I saw a local surgeon, Fayssoux, who told me that Ames would NOT likely treat my condition anyway because he's so highly specialized in complicated deformities, et. cetera. So why would I fly to SF with no confidence that Ames would treat me and then likely be referred to another surgeon on his staff? When I cancelled, Holland, the appts clerk, told me that I'd not likely ever be given another appt after I explained what I wrote above. A threat. Saw this doctor in Oct 2015 re: spinal column tumor, 75 yrs old. He was incredible, had examined my mailed MRI's, the several x-rays taken that same morning at UCSF and, without even sitting down, flipped me to one of the best brain surgeons in the world. My tumor was similar to excising a brain tumor and was critically situated next to nerves, blood vessels governing several body functions, motor and otherwise. That brain surgeons called me that evening at home in Palm Springs. At last, I was paired with the very best in both cases. Update: Requested appt for another spinal issue. Too busy. Highly specialized, rude scheduler/assistant may not be directly communicated with prior to appt. Will likely refer you to another unfamiliar staffer. He picks you. I saw him in 2015. He referred me out to my benefit. This time I was unable to communicate with him directly at all because I'm considered a new patient after 3 years. I cancelled and was threatened with not being seen in the future were I to ask.

I had surgery 1 month ago. I had a lumbar/sacrum fusion. Mine was a 2 day procedure: 3/13/19 -Anterior fusion from L2-S1; 3/15/19 -Posterior fusion L2-L6 (It may have been L4 or L5, I will clarify @ my 6 wk. post op. appt. next month). I am already feeling great (w/expected post op pain). Dr. Ames did not disappoint - PHENOMENAL skill & SUPERB bedside manner. My 8 days @ UCSF Hospital, also phenomenal. A++++ post op. w/great nurses & quite/private room!!! Tracy L. Nardiello

This man thoroughly reviewed my records on a spinal tumor and immediately referred me to a brain neurosurgeon because of the complexity of this "bloody" procedure. I am so grateful. My surgery at UCSF was 100% successful. Dec. 2015.
