This doctor is the most disconnected, uncaring individual I have ever encountered. After waiting 7 months to get in to see her l, she didn't even bother to review my chart prior to our appointment. She was extremely rude with horrible bedside manner and acted like she knew everything whilst providing me contradictory health advice. She actually claimed Dantrolene to be a depolarizing muscle relaxer, when in fact Dantrolene is the only drug that will save your life when you have an MH episode, which is something I am prone to due to a genetic disease. She was rude, talked down to me, and treated me like dirt. When I addressed this with her, instead of taking this as constructive feedback, she told me that I was welcome to see another physician. She is the only Doctor in San Diego that has experience with my disease leaving no option. The MDA and the RYR-1 organization need to stop recommending her as a physician.

She is the BEST doctor I have ever encountered, my experience with her and how she goes above and beyond for her staff to treat patients like humans is amazing. She really takes her time with you and really strives to provide the best care. And may I just add, how wonderful and helpful Andrea is when she answers a call to book an appointment and or if you need anything else. Thank you both for making my visits the best! My experience with Dr. Konersman was the most invalidating and ludicrous visit that I have ever had with a provider. Although the resident physician spent 30 min with me obtaining my medical history and conducting the neuro exam, Dr. Konersman spent a mere 5 minutes with me before referring me to psychiatry for potential Somatic Symptom Disorder (SSD). I was searching for a second opinion after another neurologist suspected I have fibromyalgia, but she was quite sure that the etiology of my symptoms are not neurological in nature and in fact were psychosomatic. She was unwilling to entertain the idea that my symptoms could be caused by environmental factors, seronegative rheumatological factors, or infectious disease. The resident and doctor asked me merely 4-5 questions about my psychosocial functioning and my current life situation, none of which indicate SSD. My visit left me questioning myself and my 3 month experience with disabling pain, causing me greater distress than I already had. However, a quick Google search of the signs and symptoms of SSD reassured me that the etiology of my pain is not psychosomatic due to the fact my symptoms are not accompanied by "excessive and disproportionate thoughts, feelings and behaviors regarding those symptoms." Rather, I am just a 25 year old woman whose successful life has been derailed by a debilitating and yet to-be-diagnosed illness. Her demeanor from the start was cold, accusatory, and glaringly lacked empathy. Regardless of the origin of my pain, I am deserving of caring and respect. I felt bullied into the psychiatry referral which she never tempered with any bedside manner or tact. She just seemed angry and dismissive that I would be there wasting her time. I have seen other providers in my search for a diagnosis and treatment and none of them have suggested a psychiatric evaluation nor have treated me with such disdain. If Dr. Konersman had been the one to take my medical background and spend 30 minutes with me, rather than the resident, perhaps the outcome would have been different. I understand that the resident is in training and needs the experiences of doing exams, but there is no way that Dr. Konersman could have a sense of me, especially in relation to SSD, in just the very few minutes we were together. I truly wonder and worry how many patients she has jettisoned to psychiatry because their neuro exams are negative, leaving these patients without answers, without support, and with pain. My experience with Dr. Konersman was the most invalidating and ludicrous visit that I have ever had with a provider. Dr. Konersman has been my neurologist for over two years now, and she is by far one of the best health providers I've ever had. Previously, I was a patient of Dr. Carla Grosmann over at Rady Children's Hospital, but was referred to Dr. Konersman since Rady's focuses more on pediatrics. Needless to say, Dr. Grosmann had been my neurologist for many years and reassured me Dr. Konersman was/is an excellent doctor. She was indeed correct. She is courteous, smart, and is undoubtedly up-to-date on all the latest advancements. I have zero complaints and would recommend her to any patient looking for a caring and thoughtful doctor. My 15 minutes with a doctor that I had waited four month to see left me feeling as if I had been beaten up by the school yard bully. After my 20 yr history of well documented assessment and care for a neuromuscular disease, at both the Cleveland Clinic as well as the Mayo Clinic, Dr K. diagnosed my illness as being psychiatric and documented this in my medical record. I was and remain devistated. Her behavior was degrading, dismissive and cruel. I am blessed to have other caregivers who are compassionate and are true to the oath "First do no harm......" .
