THIS OCCURRED INOVA HOSTIPTAL IN FALLS CHURCH: During the morning of October 16, 2020: Preface: I am writing this on behalf of my mother who wishes not to disclose her name. Who is supporting her sister Debby, who was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer. With the approval of the Unit Director, along with spending the night and helping her communicate with medical physicians. My aunt, specifically requested that her sister would be there to support and comfort her. My aunt Debby has a husband who is not present at all times due to work, additionally, he does not have reliable transportation. My mother had spent the previous night at the hospital. As the new set of physicians/nurses came in for the workday- From my mother’s account, none of these medical providers were communicating with her about her sister’s status and were speaking directly to the Debby (the patient had been awake for 48 hours due to pain, fatigue). My mother was trying to explain to them that the medication that had been given to Debby ( who isn’t my aunts real name just choosing it to remain anonymous) the previous days wasn’t working for her. Doctor Candyce Greene then came in showing little acknowledgment to my mother. Along with the hospices, they were trying to give my aunt Debby medication that was not effective in the past, as my mom continued to challenge them regarding why, furthermore what the medication did. She could see that they were growing impatient about the questions that were being asked, the hospices whom we didn’t get the name of demanded that my mother leave because visiting hours form from 1 pm- to 5 pm. Even though the Unit Director had stated before that my mother was able to stay and support her sister who was alone and suffering. This was never the case earlier that week, she had never come across this problem. She told the hospices that she didn’t appreciate the way he was speaking to her, my mother refused to leave her sister's side. Moments later, Dr.Greene came in and asked to speak with my mother outside the room, as my mother stepped outside Dr. Greene closed the door behind her and stated, ‘you are not returning into that room’. My mother stated that she needed to take her belongings out of the room. When she got in, she stated ‘I refuse to leave my sister you can bring security if you’d like but I’m not leaving my sister's side’. So, they brought security and attempted to escort her out. Not once did my mom come off as aggressive, or forceful at all. Leaving my aunt to spend the next countless hour by herself while her husband got off of work, in distress. Dr. Greene humiliated my mother and has brought a great deal of distress to her and Debby. Since then, my aunt continues to ask for my mother, and why she isn’t there and when will she return. Dr.Greene abused her power of authority by kicking my mother out of the hospital. Did my mother really get kicked out because of the visiting hours? My mother wasn’t in any way threatening or violent whatsoever. During these unprecedented times or anytime really, I would expect that patients and family members are treated with dignity and respect. Today October 20, 20. I just got word that my aunt passed away.. Not being able to say her goodbyes to her sister. I truly don’t know who I specifically need to speak to for this Dr. to know the depth of pain she has inflicted over our family. I've filed something with patent relations but honestly didn't feel as though this was being addressed. I will be sure to write everywhere I can about our experience. Unitl we get a formal apology on how this situation was delt with. I would have never expected this type of treatment from one of the “leading health systems in the Nation.
