Bruce R. Nelson

My husband had a Mohs surgery procedure on his lower eyelid performed by Dr. Nelson. Dr. Nelson was excellent throughout the entire procedure. He met with us to review the area of concern. He explained the anticipated procedure to be carried out. He gave us more than ample opportunity to ask any questions and answered questions on a level that made it easy to understand. He completed the procedure as planned. Prior to leaving he gave us his direct cell phone number should any concerns arise. Later in the evening, he called to check on my husband. Dr. Nelson is an outstanding dermatologist and truly in the practice of medicine as it should be - care and compassion for the patient with rushing or other distractions.

Dr. Nelson provides professional, knowledgeable care while exhibiting genuine interest for the patient's comfort and understanding of the diagnosis and treatment. He is honestly concerned about the patient's well-being. And just as important, his leadership proves true as each and every associate on his staff exhibits the same characteristics. Definitely the best physician's practice I have ever experienced.

Dr. Nelson is the best doctor we have ever had. He is also an angel.

Dr. Nelson's mom's surgery went extremely well. He is skilled and the remaining scar is almost nonexistent. He has performed other Moh's surgery on me as well, each time with excellent results. He is professional and personable. I highly recommend him.

I visited Dr. Nelson for the 2nd time today to have squamous cancer cells removed. The first visit was several years ago. At both visits everyone in the office was efficient yet caring. Dr Nelson was professional and compassionate. He carefully explained the procedure and was concerned about my comfort. The world needs physicians who care and are understanding. Dr. Nelson is one of them. I grew up in a small town in West Texas where there was only one doctor and everyone knew him and he cared for everyone. At the same time he was skilled and professional. Dr. Nelson is that type of doctor. I highly recommend him.

At 78, I want to thank my skin doctor, Dr. Bruce Nelson and his excellent staff at the Dermatologic Surgery Center of Houston (713) 981-6222 in SW Houston, for another beautiful, professional visit. Over about the past 10 years, I’ve been a patient of Dr. Nelson on possibly 15-20 or so occasions, getting their help staying ahead of persistent skin cancer (squamous, basal). I’ve had a variety of skin spots on my head sliced, diced, poked, prodded, and had potholes after removing cancer sewn back together; recently my forehead was stretched and all my wrinkles at 78 disappeared – only for a few days. Despite that, I have always been treated with great professionalism, kindness, humor, and good advice. He has an outstandingly well-trained and efficient staff. My follow-ups have been great. Dr Nelson has done three procedures on various parts of my body that had skin cancer. He is the best and his office staff is efficient and congenial.

Husband was referred to Dr Nelson from MD Anderson in 2001 for Mohls surgery on his ear. Could not believe his caring professional manner while we were so frightened by the diagnosis. It was my husband’s first basal cell cancer. Husband saw him routinely every six months for 5-6 years. Dr Nelson personally calls to check on the patient the first night after a procedure. After a few years of seeing a different Dermatologist closer to our home, we returned to Dr Nelson in the last couple of years. He is still the same excellent doctor. Recently I had two procedures done to remove a large lipoma on my shoulder and a subaceous cyst on my back. Both procedures went very well and my recovery has been uneventful. Also nurses and office staff are friendly, caring and professional. We cannot imagine seeing any other dermatologist. Btw we drive almost 2 hours to his office from our retirement home.

Dr. Nelson is an excellent doctor possessing the rare combination of compassion along with genuine interest in his patients. He immediately puts your mind at ease regarding procedures to be performed and explains everything in detail. His staff is second to none and clearly is very dedicated. We would not think of going elsewhere for our Mohs surgeries and dermatologic services.

Excellent physician who provides very personal care. When I call his office I am never directed to log in to an impersonal portal and fill in pages of information. I talk with a friendly person who takes care of everything. When I arrived at his office today I was immediately taken to an exam room. I have been going to Dr. Nelson for 19 years and have never had to wait more than 15 minutes. His staff is very friendly and professional. It feels like I am visiting family when I go to his office. If you want personal care from a Dermatological Oncologist who knows what he is doing, Dr. Bruce Nelson is the doctor for you.

My wife and I have been seeing Dr. Nelson for about 5 years now and have nothing but great experiences. His office is very well run, efficient, compassionate, and patient focused. He and his staff take the time to explain what they will be doing and then execute the required procedures in a minimum of time and discomfort. My wife and I have been going to Dr Nelson for years. We have had several surgeries with him to remove skin cancers. We both just had one each removed. He is an excellent doctor. You need to on time for your appointment since you will be called back within minutes of your arrival. He even gives you his home number after a surgery, in case you have any problems. He does everything in his power to make his surgeries pain free. We can say enough nice things about him. I am not easily impressed and have never written a positive post on a doctor before.

Dr. Bruce Nelson first off is the most compassionate, kind, understanding doctor I have had the pleasure to know. Not only is he the BEST surgeon dermatologist in Houston but exemplifies the doctor/patient relationship. I wish he were my doctor in every field of medicine, that is how much I trust and like him. Dr. Nelson receives 5 stars for his bedside manner, skill, compassion and follow up. He has removed nasal cell carcinoma with MOHS surgery and melanoma for my husband. We would highly reccomended Dr. Nelson.

I have been going to Dr. Bruce Nelson for over 10 years and he has performed about 6 Mohs skin cancer surgeries on me. His skill is 10+ on a scale of 1 to 10. He does both the surgery and the pathology to verify the cancer cells have been removed. I like not having a separate pathologist involved in my treatment. I have never had any discomfort during the surgical process and after the surgery, the most pain medicine I have ever taken is one Anacin tablet. I did not need any Anacin after my surgery this week. He is one of the most experienced and skilled Mohs Doctors in the US. If you need to have skin cancer surgery, there is none better than Dr. Nelson.

Dr.Nelson pays attention to your concerns, makes you feel comfortable, sense of humor, but most important he does his job well! Trust him! His staff is the best. Considerate and professional.

Dr. Nelson treated my husband for melanoma. Having a diagnosis like this is very scary, but Dr. Nelson and his staff explained everything and were extremely thorough in making sure everything was gone. Dr. Bruce Nelson is a treasure & I’m so glad I found him. He not only is extraordinary in his treatment but also excels at being approachable & patient friendly. He will actually talk to you, is self-deprecating & always makes me laugh. I've had several slon cancers on my face & I was terrified of ugly scars. I’d gone to another dermatologist for a skin cancer on my arm & ended up looking like Frankenstein. With Dr. Nelson, people can’t even tell that I have scars. His procedure, aided by his own in-office lab, is to take as little of the skin as possible but leave no cancer cells remaining. I highly recommend Dr. Nelson as a dermatologist.

These people are great. I have had skin cancer for 30 years and went to Dr. Bruce Nelson for my last Surgery. Dr. Nelson is a no BS kind of doctor who will tell you like it is and then do his best to help you. Surgery is stressfull but they take good care of you and you even get the doctors home phone number. LOL

Dr. Nelson is an extremely skilled surgeon with an impeccable education from one of the country's best medical schools. He has given me more information about general health than my PCP, and he diagnosed a rare skin disorder no one in 20 years has been able to identify. He is one of the best and most competent dermatologists in the country and I recommend him to anyone with suspected cancers or other skin issues. I have been to Dr. Nelson for MOHS surgery several times. He has always been honest and to the point as to what was coming next. When my personal dermatologist tells me I need MOHS surgery I ask for Dr. Nelson. And his staff are wonderful! Always smiling, pleasant and understanding that you may be a little fretful. I'm a 1st visit patient. I had a biopsy , which turned out to be cancer. I was apprehensive and nervous. Upon arriving at his office, Dr. Nelson's staff were helpful and went through explaining my upcoming procedure. When Dr. Nelson came in the room singing, I knew he was different! All went well. I'm post polio syndrome. The evening of my surgery, the doctor called. He discussed my history. I was impressed . Thank you

Dr Nelson and his staff provide excellent care. He is a very, very skillful surgeon. He is to the point and explains the procedure and the after care in an forthright and comprehensive manner. Both my husband and I have received care from him multiple times. His staff was very caring and considerate. I would highly recommend him as a MOHS surgeon or for melanoma treatment.

I want to report that my experience with Dr. Nelson and his staff at the Dermatologic Surgery Center was very positive. The staff was caring, professional, and efficient. Dr. Nelson was very concerned about my welfare; he even phoned personally to check on me! From the very beginning, I had no doubt that Dr. Nelson and his group were the right choice for my surgery.

I saw Dr. Nelson after receiving a normal pathology report from a biopsy done on my lower lip by another dermatologist. I knew it wasn't right. The previous Dr. didn't get a quality specimen. Dr. Nelson treated me with so much concern I was speechless. He repeated the biopsy and called me within 2 days. The biopsy was not normal and he was on the phone with another Dr. Who he felt was the best person for me see for my problem. Dr. has better bedside manner then any other Dr. I have ever see

Best Doctor I have ever dealt with by far! Been going to Bruce for 10 years and his attention to my care has been exceptional. He cares and will go out of his way to make sure you are well informed and your treatment and recovery the best possible. Not many DRs encourage you to call them at home if you have any issues.

Over the last 2o+ years I have found Dr. Nelson to be the most caring and accommodating doctor I have ever experienced. His diagnoses and procedures are excellent. His staff are a joy to work with and like Dr. Nelson take excellent care of my husband and me. I am an out of state patient and here on the Western Slopes of Colorado I am unable to see a MOHS surgeon without at least a 12 week wait. Dr. Nelson will accommodate me at very short notice.

Both my wife and I have been patients of Dr. Nelson for the past year. Each visit his staff is professional, pleasant, and always timely. Rarely is the wait more than 5 to 10 minutes in the waiting room. Once you are in an exam room again the wait is short. I wish all my doctors respected my time as Dr. Nelson does! Dr. Nelson epitomized every negative stereotype people have about doctors, dismissed patient comfort and concerns, and treated my wife like a child. Arrogant, rude and I'm not comfortable with the fact that he touched her arms and shoulders repeatedly for no reason throughout the consult. We will never return and have found another doctor.
