Bruce Michael Frankel

First, when he came in, I tried to give him my MRI and he told me "Don't hand that to me!" I saw him about 9 months earlier & he suggested ablation then stimulator. The ablation didn't work, so I came back about the stimulator. He said he knows nothing about them. He said he didn't know why I was there & I was wasting his time. He said there is nothing to help me & I have to live with the pain. He said my pain dr. is just taking my money & he doesn't know what he is doing. I tried to tell him all the different procedures that they have tried & he said he isn't a pain dr. & doesn't know what I am talking about. I told him that I would never waste his time again. Pain drs. do the trial stimulators & neurosurgeons do the permanent implant. I had emailed him all this & his office said he needed to see me. I don't know why HE wasted my time & money for a visit where he says he knows nothing about the spine procedures. He shouldn't be a neurosurgeon & MUSC DEFINITELY doesn't need him!

My husband was experiencing numbness is his hands and down his left side. After tests and meeting with the Dr. it was determined that he had a large Ependymoma in his spinal cord. When other surgeons wanted to wait and observe the tumor Dr. Frankel recommended it be removed. He was very caring, listened to our questions and answered all as best he could and shared what to expect and what the outcome of no surgery might be. It has been three years since the tumor was successfully removed. We can’t begin to thank him enough. We will always be grateful for his services.

Dr Frankel and his team saved my life. I had Chiari Decompression surgery in June and my life has drastically changed for the better. I have not had a single headache since the day of my surgery, I have regained my eyesight, balance, and most neuropathy issues. I could not have asked for a better surgeon who took his time explaining everything in the appts before surgery, calming my nerves, and making sure I knew that I was the perfect candidate for the surgery I needed. He was more concerned about her getting addicted to meds than helping her.. taking 3 blood presser pills a day because of pain is more dangerous than pain meds. He said take 2 Tylenol which is very dangerous to the liver.and never mind she would not be in his office if Tylenol worked, . I would never take someone to this Dr again, my sister jumped out of her pool 3months ago and she done something to her upper back and has been in such pain that she’s not been able to laid down and sleep because of the pain, and there was not even a Lana Cane patch that he would for write for her.. and wouldn’t write anything for the pain because he didn’t want his name on pain meds except for surgery patients..this wasn’t right she’s on 3 blood presser meds because of the pain.. i would not recommend this Dr for anyone, because he’s only looking out for himself and his name.. he swore to help patients but it’s about him and his future not the patients.. clearly.. Our experience with Dr. Frankel was Just a Blessing I'm Grateful he was recommended to do Major surgery on my husband brain tumor. He is a very patient and kind. He explains everything very thoroughly. ????????????

One of the worst experiences with a doctor and believe me I've had plenty. He walked in for maybe a minute pushed my issue aside clearly never reading my history and chart and saying I'm fine that the 2 tumors are benign without any test and a past history. Said he would be back after talking it over with a colleague and a cleaning lady came in and said I was good to go. Never came back, no answers, nothing and a waste of a CO-pay and 2 hour drive. There is no one else out there as educated, dedicated, or precise in his craft than Dr. Frankel. He fixed errors made by other doctors and made it so I can function again. He is easy to connect with but his dry humor may catch some the wrong way, but he is kind and friendly. A true professional and mater of his craft!

Before I found Dr. Frankel, I was close to being one year of excruciating pain from my back that radiated down my leg. Just simple daily activities were painful and I found myself in emotional distress. I tried everything that was asked of me...epidural injections, chiropractic care, physical therapy, and eventually a surgical procedure that proved to be a failure. I was told by two neurosurgeons and an orthopedic surgeon that spinal fusion was my "only option". I didn't want to go through it. I realized I needed to leave my medical community and seek another opinion. My first appointment with Dr. Frankel he told me he thought he could help me. On my return appt, my husband with me, he told me he believed in starting with the least invasive option. We felt that we finally found "the one". I was totally comfortable. Dr Frankel performed a rhizotomy or nerve ablation. Easy, painless surgery and I was on my way back to Charlotte five hours later. Seeking another opinion was one of the best decisions I ever made. The MUSC Neurosurgery staff are amazing and the surgical hospital staff made me feel totally at ease. This was all during the Vivid pandemic. The hospital staff made it possible for my husband to be in the surgery waiting room. I think that was amazing! I can't say enough about Dr Frankel's treatment plan. He gave me my life back. Last year around this time, I had to have emergency Brain Surgery to remove a tumor in my cerebellum. I was very fortunate to have had Dr. Frankel assigned as my surgeon. Bad beside manner. His registered nurse was condescending too.

You are waisting your time seeing this doctor. He has the WORST bedside manner I have ever experienced from a doctor, and won't even listen to a word you have to say. Not someone I would want operating on my head. Stay away!!

Dr. Frankel is an outstanding surgeon! He explains everything to your understanding. Takes all your worries or concerns seriously. I've never felt rushed in his office. He's compassionate and thorough. It's been 3 years since my surgery and I would not be where I am today without Dr. Frankel and Jared.

Dr.Frankel was amazing,he explained what I neeed to have done and did an awesome job.I would recommend him to anyone.He also address any concerns I had after my surgery.

Excellent neurosurgeon.

Worst Neurosurgeon. Does Not care about his patients. Especially the ones he paralyzed and writes them off like they are non existent.

Doesn't have a good Bedside Manner. Non-complacent. Gives a typical practiced spiel to cover his rear, instead of a real expectation or prognosis. Let's his assistant Doctors or Nurses do the talking. Acts distant.

Dr. Frankel is an extremely competent, compassionate, and highly sought after neurosurgeon. After getting 4 consultations with surgeons around the Southeast,he is the only one who recommended a less invasive procedure. He is kind, listens and explains tithings in clear language. The onlyh drawback to him is that he is highly in demand, and sometimes you may have to schedule s.urgery out a bit, but he is well worth waiting for. His PA, and all the staff at MUSC were stellar in their dealings.

Dr. Frankel provided professional, straight forward care. He communicated directly what he felt my issue to be and his recommended treatment plan. 5th back surgery, TLIF L4/S1 (prior ALIF also). Exceptional surgery, best recovery period thus far.

I went to see Dr Frankel for 2nd opinion for continued severe neck, shoulder and arm pain/numbness. He has such a great bedside manner, spend alot of time explaining to my husband and I my options to help my severe pain. So very thankful he saw me quickly due to the urgency of my condition. He will be performing my surgery very soon and I feel more confident of a positive outcome. He was honest and explained why he can't fix all of my problems at once but his correct diagnosis gave me hope!!!

He did laproscopic surgery and I went home the same day. Excellent result.
